Living in my own little world...

Time to update my intro. I'm pleased to say that I have been able to stick with the Atkins lifestyle and I am seeing results. That makes me happy. I don't think I've ever stuck with a "diet" or life change for this long ... except for the negative life change of eating too much & not exercising.

I now enjoy exercise, though I will admit - some days it's a push to get myself moving! But once I get into it, I love it.

Spark People has been a lifesaver. I've made some excellent friends here - those who make me laugh, those who build me up & those who help me pick up the pieces when I feel like I've failed. This is a great place to feel safe just being myself.

My Goals:
I want to lose over a hundred pounds. I celebrated the first 10 and will continue to celebrate each 10 as they melt away!

My Program:
I was strict low carb and that worked for a while. Now I'm trying to focus more on clean eating - keeping out processed food & sugar. Meats, veggies, whole grains and dairy.

Exercise!
Walking, elliptical, zumba, jillian michaels and aerobics. I wanted to become a runner but with the arthritis in my knee, the doctor has frowned on that! So I get in my power walks which still get me to sweat & make me feel great. Now I need to incorporate more strength training in to my routine.

Personal Information:
My name is Diane and I am 46 yrs old. I'm married with 2 children and we have a bunch of animals. I live in the Pocono mountains and love it here. Love the wild life, the weather and all the amazing places to hike. It is a beautiful area and I hope to get more active as more weight comes off.

Other Information:
My goal is to be the best "me" that I can be.

Thank-you for the nice birthday box. What's in it? I didn't mention my birthday except to a couple of people in passing, each time in relation to impending cupcakes. I postponed dinner and cupcakes until today and tomorrow because I was sick on my birthday and spent the day in bed watching cheesy movies, which was actually a lot of fun!

No, I am not going home for xmas this year. I am generally fine with that, so no need to feel bad. It was my choice to quit my money-job and go back to school and choices have consequences. I would not change a single thing! The time will fly by. I've booked gym-time on the 24th-26th of December and on January 1st. I'm going to see a movie. I'm attending a few cocktail parties. It's all good. There will be 7 kids under the age of 8 at my parents' house for xmas so no one will really notice I am missing. And I am ok with avoiding all that kid-related bickering, sticky-ness and noisiness (I am not a little-kid person at all----------I much prefer teen-agers). I'll be heading home in April instead. So it is all good!

Fostering cats is good and bad. On one hand I feel like I am 'doing something' to help, but on the other hand, I cry when they get adopted. It can be very rewarding though, especially when you start getting photos of them, pampered and happy in their new homes.

Best of luck to you and Leah with your baking!

Don't forget to let me know if you are going to be in my neck of the woods! We could get together for some coffee or a healthy lunch!

Random Mom Story # 101

Living in Hawaii there was no need for fireplaces. How was Santa supposed to come down the chimney?

So when we were little, my mom rolled up newspaper to make "logs." She then wrapped them with aluminum foil all crinkly like. She'd remove all the books from the cinder block and plank shelving, put the "logs" in one of the pockets in the shelving, and put a light bulb behind it. Then she'd use red cellophane paper over the front of everything ... turn on the light bulb ... and that was our fireplace.

Yeah ... some times my mom kinda rocked it.
