My life as a Yo-Yo
I joined Spark during my first year of graduate school, back up to 170lbs after a lifelong struggle with my weight. I set my goal at 130 (lighter than I had been since elementary school) and set on my way. I fell off the wagon for a month or two over summer, but managed to claw my way back on in time to get in shape for a trip to Hawaii to celebrate my progress. I set my goal at 130 (lighter than I had been since elementary school) and set on my way. I fell off the wagon for a month or two over summer, but managed to claw my way back on in time to get in shape for a trip to Hawaii to celebrate my progress. I had finally reached my goal weight when I went on a month long Christmas vacation and managed to pack back on 18 pounds in less than month. So here I am, bursting the seams of my fat jeans and hanging my head low. I know as soon as I get back to the gym and quit drinking I'll be back to where I was a lot faster than I expect, but it sure is hard to know how easily all of my hours of hard work can be made moot. But, this is a lifestyle change, which sometimes, I suppose, means life screws up your plans. My Goals:
When I first started my goals were small: to be able to wear a swimsuit at the beach and to be able to keep up with my friends on hikes. It feels great to have passed them! I would someday like to do a triathlon, but I'm too scared of the open water. So, I've decided on a half marathon. I made a pact with my mom to do the Santa Rosa Half Marathon in August 2010, so I had better start running!
My Program:
School is back in session so it's much easier to keep to a schedule. I aim to make it to the gym 5 times a week, even if it's just for Zumba or a quick swim. I'm trying to make healthier diet choices as well as eat more whole and natural foods. It's too easy when you're counting calories to get caught up in "health foods" that aren't food at all. My friends think I'm preparing for the apocolypse because I make my own jam and salsa, but the fact is: preservatives are for chumps.
