I've been on SP a while - but it's only been in the last 6 or so months that I've really gotten involved and started to take advantage of everything here.
I used to be a pretty fit (though still 20-30lb over-weight) vegan who jogged/biked everywhere. But - I had a horrible year - where I got burned after 7 years of working 80 hrs/week - my mom passed away, and I became an insomniac constantly getting sick and/or injured. I'm finally beyond all that and able to really make getting healthy a priority.
And - here's a little more info:
I'm self-employed as a campus minister on 3 different campuses.
I Love all sorts of out-door activities and live in a great area for hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, camping and such. In fact - I'm hoping to do a kayaking trip around the Apostle Islands in summer 2014.
I am turning my tiny 1/10th acre property into an urban farm using permaculture and organic/sustainable techniques, Most recently I added 5 chickens. They are the funniest creatures.
I have tons of hobbies - beyond the ones mentioned above - like calligraphy, quilting, reading (mostly non-fiction), writing (both non-fiction and fiction), cooking, all kinds of DIY, travel, photography (though I'm kind of horrible at it), playing guitar (even worse at that - but it's fun)
I love ancient church history - especially the first 3-4 centuries - this a new thing so I still have a lot to learn - I'm especially fascinated by the first hermits/ascetics who wandered out into the desert to pray and meditate.
I have a degree in 20th century German existentialist philosophy with minors in French, Swahili and Chemistry. For reals
I'm a "recovering anorexic-turned-munch-a-holic"
Lose a few pounds, get fit, fully recover from too many injuries - and have a great time loving life this summer.
counting calories, living more active, bike commuting - and I became vegan (mostly for health reasons - but I've learned enough I don't think I'd ever go back to eating the way I used to)
I've traveled quite a bit - and have lived in a few different places - but think it'd be great to "settle down" and set up a nice homestead well off the beaten path.
Hoping to send as much time as possible hiking, kayaking, camping, backpacking, biking, swimming etc. this summer!
