I have been a regular exerciser for 15 years or so now, and simply want to keep it up as long as I can!
I am a busy mother of two boys, so don't spend much time on-line, but I am looking forward to and hoping to be able to contribute to discussions on the message boards. Hopefully I shall be able to gain some good advice from experts here, and who knows - maybe I might be able to pass on some advice myself?!

Update on 6th November 2008 - am getting alot of hassle from my husband, mum, sons and other people to put some weight back on. They all feel I'm too thin. Don't know what to do for the best at the moment.

Update on 17th November 2008 - after much soul searching, many frank talks and a discussion with my Doctor, I have decided that I will try and put a little bit of weight back on. Not sure how much - most people say 7 lbs, (half a stone) but I'm not sure I want to gain that much..................

Update on 25th June 2009 - been away for a while, seeking professional help and therapy for my problems with food and exercise. Decided to return to Spark to hopefully get support from fellow Sparkers who are trying to overcome and ED and gain weight.

Update 25th June 2010 - where did the year go??!! I'm still struggling with weight gain, have been having intensive OP treatment and have now just been referred to another department at hospital for alternative pyschiatric assessment and help.

Update 29th January 2011 - am still receiving OP treatment, but as of this week have finished a course of 20 weekly sessions. Now I have to go to a course of monthly / 6 weekly sessions. Not sure how long for, depends on how well I do with my weight gain. As of today I am 109 lbs, so still alot of work to do!!

Update 24th December 2011 - I've been a member here for several years, but haven't been around lately. Basically, to cut a very long (and probably boring!) story short, I'm recovering from anorexia and exercise compulsion, and have had amazing help from family, friends and my local hospital.
Until as recently as last week I'd been working out hard at the gym for 7 days a week for as long as I care to remember. But I had a real Eureka moment last weekend, and decided enough is enough. I was at the gym but actually found myself NOT wanting to be there!
For some reason, I suddenly realised that all the hours I'd spent relentlessly pounding away on the treadmill and eliptical have done my far more harm than good, both physically and mentally. What a waste of time and energy, not to mention huge membership fees!
And I knew that if I didn't make a clean break from the gym then I wouldn'tt be able to stop myself from going. I wouldn't be able to just cut down slowly - it's all or nothing.
So that was it - I've given my three months' notice to cancel my membership and haven't been there since Thursday last week.
My husband, bless him, is thrilled to bits. But he knows that I can't simply go "cold turkey" and stop exercising completely. So what has he done? Bought me a Wii Fit machine!! It comes with the Wii Fit Plus exercise program, and my husband also bought me Zumba.
I was sceptical at first, thinking it wouldn't be able to get a good workout, but I have to say it's brilliant! Such fun, both the Fit Plus and the Zumba. I didn't realise my body could move in the way it does doing Zumba! I use the Wii balance board for step aerobics and also stability and yoga work.
I have also started using Aerobics Oz Style (on Sky Sports) and have got a resistance band for toning and strength work. So I'm all set!!
Oh and one more thing - I'm also going to start running outside, with the help of my brother. I used to run for 1.5 hours on the treadmill, but never again! I'm getting out into nature and feeling the wind on my skin instead of the stale air of the gym!
I just wanted to share this with you lovely people, as I feel as if I'm in a much better place than I have been for many years, with a far healthier attitude to exercise in general.
And I'm now enthusiastic about exercise again - and looking forward to doing lots of new and exciting things, having real variety to my workouts, and above all being healthy and not overdoing it!
Just got to get my eating sorted now! xxxxxx
Update as of August 2012 - still having major struggles with food and exercise. It seems that this will be a lifelong battle for me I guess. I still have a morbid fear of gaining even a pound or two, because I think "what if I lose control and go the other way and end up being overweight?" Having never been overweight in my life, everybody tells me this fear is unfounded, but my mind tells me otherwise.
Shall keep on battling - once I win one battle, maybe I shall one day be able to win the war ..............

UPDATE JUNE 2013 - after working out at home for nearly two years, I've decided I'm totally fed up with being plagued by everpresent constant niggling injuries caused by over training and also too much running outside on hard surfaces. Hence I have re-joined my gym, so now at least I'm able to have access to more equipment that is kinder on my body: such as the elliptical, rowing machines, cycles, and also the vast array of weights that the gym has. Also, running on the treadmill works for me - I am now injury free for the first time in months and am loving the feeling of being able to go through day to day life without any aches or pains!

Update Sept 2014 - have early osteoporosis due to low body weight for far too long. Have been put on HRT for the foreseeable future, at least until I'm 50. Having regular checkups at the hospital, and will have a re-scan for bone density in about 18 months time.

My Goals:
I need to gain at least a stone in weight - a tough goal for someone like me who is addicted to exercise and has an eating disorder.

My Program:
I have finally taken hold of my gym addiction and quit. Now I workout at home and in the great outdoors. I keep a house and garden, own and run two engineering companies, and also run around after my two boys. I also horse ride every week.
I think that is enough to be going on with right now! Oh, and I play the flute in a flute ensemble and love reading when I can find 5 minutes!

Personal Information:
I live in the UK, and am a 42 year old mother of two teenage boys. Own and run two engineering companies. Love music - play flute and piano, and also sing.

Other Information:
I love Jodi Picoult books, and also Alexander McCall Smith, Sophie Hannah, Susan Hill and Susan Lewis.
But my favourite book of all time is A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khalled Husseini - a very sad story but highly recommended.
