Today, I will be kind to myself and do this!

I began the process of losing weight at the end of December. My brother was already working with sparkpeople and I became interested in joining. You see my family has a history of heart disease and therefore my risks are higher for developing problems. I was at the top of the overweight category on the BMI charts and therefore my risks of heart problems were elevated for this reason too. You see my family has a history of heart disease and therefore my risks are higher for developing problems. I was at the top of the overweight category on the BMI charts and therefore my risks of heart problems were elevated for this reason too. In the months following I began to lose a few pounds at a time and this motivated me to keep working at the process. I have had struggles and ups and downs, two steps forward, one step back and currently I am up a few pounds and will need to work my way back to my goal weight again. I see this as a long term jouney and I am not going to get off this healthy lifestyle change ever. It is a life time commitment and I will maintain my weight within a few pounds up and down for life. I am going to apply my learning, my patience with my short falls, my knowing to keep the long term perspective, to new goals beyond my personal health. I am feeling great about myself and what this can mean to me and those around me. I hope my story is encouraging to you as well. I know I like thinking about my own story, it inspires me to keep on sparking!!

Go from 219 on 12/29/12 to 195 by 5/13/13

Started at - 219 pounds
HT 6'0 -- BMI - 29.7 -- top of the overweight category.

AT 210 pounds my BMI was 28.5 - close to the top of the over weight category.

205 - met 1/26
203 - met 1/30
201 - met 2-7
199- met 2-12
197 - met 2-21
195 - met 2-25

original goal weight 195!!

193 - met 3-2
191 - met 3-8

At 191 my BMI is now 25.9 which is at the lower end of the overweight category.


New Goal ---
189 -- met 3/15!!!
187 -- met 3/30!!
185 -- met 4/7!

184 met 4/7

182 met 4/16

Normal -- BMI per CDC!!




Become active - exercise at least 10 minute every day.

Track food daily.

Grade papers for 30 minutes each day.

Thanks for the spark goodie. I'm not sure if its great to be back home or not. We have no carpet or flooring in yet so the concrete floors are cold. Also most of our furniture and things are in the garage. There is no point bringing them in until the floor is installed. We do have most of the drywall dust cleaned up and we are finding a way to manage. The floors will be installed at the end of next week.

How's it going? I harvested our beets yesterday - it was freezing cold outside. Then I canned 14 pints of pickled beets, not bad for a late fall crop. I still have my cold frames out but other than that I give up - the frost has won and the garden is dead.
