carpe diem....

Hmmmm. Where to start. I'm a recent graduate from college. (Well, recent if you consider May 2010 recent...but it still feels recent because I'm still job hunting!) My whole life my mother has had me on some sort of diet and always involved in several activities. In college I was stressed out (not surprising for those of you who have been to college) and so I lived off of Starbucks, little or no sleep, one meal a day, and walking through a mountainous campus all day. Because of all of these things I was at my best weight in years! Unfortunately, I was also terribly unhappy. I worked out several hours a day because I couldn't sleep. When I couldn't sleep I would just go to the gym. When I graduated from college I started sleeping and eating properly again because I wasn't so stressed out. Now, I've gained 30 pounds and I'm terribly unhappy. I want to lose it the healthy way, though. I don't want to go on some crazy fad diet that will just make me feel awful. So, I'm joining this community in the hope that y'all will inspire me and help me along the way. Hopefully, I can inspire you as well!

Update 7/26/2014: I fell off the wagon with Sparkpeople. In February of 2012, I was hit by a car and spent seven months recuperating and learning how to walk again. In that time I really didn't gain any weight back. I didn't gain any weight during the months I was learning to walk again. I was going to intense physical therapy everyday. The weight came back when I continued eating as though could work out at a high intensity. I can't run anymore. Running was one of the primary ways I stayed in shape. My leg can't do certain exercises anymore.

Right now I'm working out figuring out ways to exercise that aren't painful, but produce results. I'm redetermined to love myself once again.

I miss your blogs. Sorry you're having a hard time. You'll get back into it! Maybe now that you're not focused on that second job, and preparing mentally for it.
