At age 50, I am starting a plan to run my first marathon. My 24 year old son ran his first last year. This motivated me to try. If the body can handle it, the mind is willing.

I think I am done with 5K runs. Now I will be doing longer runs and hill/speed work.

You seem to be getting faster on your 5k times. Congrats!

The plan is the same one my son used. He just pulled it from the internet. It is a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, with a long Saturday run. The Saturday builds to 20 miles, two weeks before the race.

I pulled the hammy two days after my son was born in 1987 and I continue to pull it on a regular basis. It sucks getting old.

Is your 16 week program one of your own creation or a published plan?

The hamstrings must be all that speed that you generate!

Yes, right now I am doing 3x 5K per week at about 6.7 MPH. I plan to start a 16 week regimen at the beginning of the year. I will have to see how the rest of the month goes. I have pulled hamstrings in the past and that is my main concern.

I am sure you can get into the 20's. Just bump up the speed each week.
