Starting Over

My name is Bill. I gained a lot of weight over the past several years taking care of my beautiful wife. Now that she has passed away after a 4-year battle with Amyloidosis, it is time to start taking care of myself. The first year had mixed results, but I'm determined to turn this around. The activity isn't the problem - it's the healthy eating. I will do this, though!

I'm taking part in the Spring 5% Challenge. My goal is to lose 11 pounds during the challenge.

My Goals:
I want to get to 180 lbs by August 2105. While I can't run very much due to tendon damage after a broken leg, I want to continue the habit of exercising daily while eating healthier.

My Program:
Eat healthy, watch the portion sizes, and exercise frequently. This formula always works, but it's easier said than done! I've got to find a way to make them habits instead of things that I HAVE to do.

Personal Information:
I live in San Antonio, Texas - an absolutely great place! (except perhaps in July and August...)

Other Information:
I grew up in Texas, but spent 26 years in the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, I worked another 15 years at Brooks AFB, TX as a contractor. I love outdoor activities of all types. I especially like hiking vacations. My son and my 7-year old grandson went with me on a 20-mile hike in the mountains of Wyoming last year.

I totally agree about how much faster the weight comes on than goes off! I was up nearly 3 pounds this week at Weight Watchers, but I grabbed hold of it today and had a great day. Now I need to keep on doing that until it becomes my new norm! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Something else we have in common - exercise isn't the problem, it's the FOOD. Or in my case the AMOUNT of food. Only the food tracker and a food scale opened my eyes. I suffered from MAJOR portion distortion and was even overeating healthy food. Good Luck! As they say, you cannot outrun your fork.

Unfortunately it is a hand me down dress that my BFF used to wear. If things hadn't shifted with my age, it would have worked! Will just try to lay off the goodies for a couple weeks and see if it fits better, if not, I have a toned down black dress in my closet. They have something called "spanks" to hold things in but I want to breath. LOL. Sorry about your pedometer. I know how it feels to be without it as I wore mine into the ocean once and another time forgot it in the bathroom at the hospital. Gone.... Have a great week Bill. You deserve a great week. emoticon LOL with the mardi gras haul from 2014.
