I remember well when I hit those mid-life years and I put on a few pounds and my 20 minutes riding the stationary bike was no longer sufficient to shed that extra weight. Unfortunatley, this also happened at a time when I worked a desk job with weekly overtime.

I remember well when I hit those mid-life years and I put on a few pounds and my 20 minutes riding the stationary bike was no longer sufficient to shed that extra weight. Unfortunatley, this also happened at a time when I worked a desk job with weekly overtime.

The stress of those years was high, in addition to the job I had two children that needed to be tended to and carpooled before and after school. Many of our meals ended up being highly processed because it was so easy to just heat something up.

Money was also tight and so I used coupons a lot. Only one time, I stocked up on a whole bunch of "good deals" only to realize that I did not normally eat that stuff. It was a reality lesson learned that even with the cents off if I don't normally eat that then I do not save money.

My aha moment was when I went to a Culinary Arts program and we had to do weekly research paper in the Nutrition class. It was at that time I came to realization that I could not trust the information that we had for what a "healthy" diet is. I also watched 75% of my classmates gain weight as the course progressed and realized I could not cook that way if I want to be healthy.

Then I read the China Study, Eat To Live, The McDougall Program. I think I am now seeing the light as to what I need to eat in order to be healthy. I hope you will join me on my journey here at SparkPeople.com

My Program:
I do not really have a program that I follow. I do try to follow the principles that I learned from Eat to Live by Joel Furhman and the Mcdougall Program. I eat very few animal products.

Thanks for your comment. I eat a lot of veggies and fruit, but that doesn't help tame this mega sweet tooth. I have started meticulous tracking again, which I find time consuming, but it is the only thing that works for me.
