The Good, The Bad, The Shelby

I'm Shelby. I am 33 and I have been overweight my entire life. I began 2012 weighing 226 lbs (after reaching 265 in '07). My goal weight is 155 lbs...slowly but surely I am determined to get there.

I got engaged on Christmas Day 2015. Time to buckle down so I can look good in my wedding gown in October 2016, lol.

I'm ready to be healthy. I'm doing this the right way. No crash diets, no magic wand. I'm eating healthier. I'm exercising. I'm staying positive. The weight will come off slowly, but it will come off. The real Shelby will start to shine - watch out, world!

Exercise:
Weekend hikes
Jogging on weekdays.

Nutrition: EAT LESS. Realizing I don't need the ice cream or candy. Drink more water. Lots more water.
Realize that food is fuel, not a crutch.

I struggled with sleep and still have some trouble depending on what's going on. I only have caffeine before lunch which is my morning coffee and I have a 2 cup limit. I noticed a big change when I started walking daily a few years ago. I think because it is not only physical activity but it sort of calms me as well. Right now, I've been struggling to stay asleep but there's nothing I can do about that LOL.

Regarding sleep.. I've stopped all caffeine by 3:00 pm and follow a pretty set bedtime routine of reading in bed before turning out the lights, sometimes a brain game like Sodoku helps make the brain more sleepy.
I've heard interval training/HIIT is supposed to be good for insomnia.
I do interval exercises a lot already.
Other folks have had good luck with melatonin.
