I'm a 59 yr old lady who has been happily married for 40 years. In 2009 I lost 125 lbs. It was due to illness, not a diet. On October 8th, 2009, I almost died due to a prescribed overdose of potasium. I feel like that date is my "rebirth" day.
I also deal with some disabilities. I am a post polio survivor who is experiencing PPS. I have daily neuropathic pain as well as continuing issues with ankle pain from my break. I also have a congenital heart defect that has caused R sided heart failure, I have COPD,and am on oxygen 24/7. I will be on it the rest of my life. I struggle everyday with my weight and will the rest of my life.
In 2010, I graduated college in June and my son just got married to a wonderful girl named Megan. I became a "Memere" on July 11th, 2012 when my beautiful daughter in law delivered a beautiful baby girl, Mykelti Rae.
I've been a "Sparker" for two years now. I have learned that there is really no such thing as a diet-just a healthier way of living. I've had my ups and downs but am settling down and WILL make it to my goal one day! Meanwhile, I have learned to be happy in the body I have. I will never appear on "America's Next Top Model" but that's fine. God made us all in different packages to make the world different. As my friend RuPaul says "If you can't love yourself, how the h@#l are you gonna love someone else?"
Lose weight to get healthy.
Live longer, at least long enough to see my grandchildren!
Have no regrets - we have to remember to "live like we were dying!"
I'm trying lose another 25 lbs to get to a weight where I'm comfortable. May not be exactly what the "charts" want but my doctor and I would be happy. I am trying to do everything they tell me here and everyone is so supportive which is what I need. It's great since I found SPARK because I have disabilities that make it hard to leave home. Here, I get the support I need and the nutritional info I've been looking for.
I currently live in Scranton PA, originally from Providence, RI.
Married 40 years to a fantastic, supportive guy, Steve, I have 1 son, Mike, a wonderful new daughter in law, Megan. We are expecting our first grandchild in July. I also have, next to my DH, the 2nd main man (don't tell him he's 2nd), Seamus the cat.
"Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day. " - Dalai Lama
"It's a gift to be simple, a gift to be free"
I pray everyday for the strength to accept those "gifts" the Lord gives me to make me stronger. I try to be kinder to others and want to be there when I'm needed.
