Off to a New Year's party (Dec. 31, 2008). Don't I look like a happy camper?

Yiche12's journey

On April 30, 2014, I will celebrate my five years on this journey. I did start out at 183.7 lbs in 2009 and am presently 162.8 lbs. Over the years, Spark People has helped me with the following:

- I have become more aware of the importance of eating well and leaving junk food out of my diet.
- Exercise has become a routine for me.
- The need to sleep a minimum of seven to eight hours a night.
- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that ...

- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that I would have regained my weight if I had not continued on SP.
- The importance of food tracking on a daily basis.
- Soft drinks are no longer drunk in the household.
- Desserts are made for guests only and we don't miss it.
etc. (the list goes on)

Like many of you, I have had many ups and downs on this journey. I am presently overweight as per the BMI scale and I will continue my journey to reach my healthy weight.

The truth is that with the weight that I 'have' lost, I have found my self-esteem again and my willingness to continue this struggle. I even look forward to going out more and dressing up again because I can actually look better in the clothes that I have. That is a nice feeling... Truly, I do not want to go upwards again as I know what that feels like. Yes, with the weight on, I could still do a lot but my cholesterol was high and my BMI was on the obese side -- who's kidding who here?

I am 65 y.o. and never did envision myself being a heavy older person. Looking at my December 2008 picture beside, it was obvious to me that it was time that I got myself moving again and by doing so, it has proven to be beneficial all-round.

My goal is to lose the excess weight I have accumulated and get my BMI and cholesterol to healthier levels. I want to be a role model for my daughters and grand-children.

My Program:
I am watching and marking down EVERYTHING that I eat. I am exercising on a regular basis. Initially, I had scheduled one day off and now I find myself doing something on that day too!!!

Personal Information:
Originally from Canada, I have resided in West Africa since 1975 (during my entire adult life). I do get a chance to go and visit my family frequently but miss them a lot. Thanks to my MagicJack, Viber, Talkatone, Skype, I can communicate even more now with everybody.

Sorry I haven't stopped by your page before now. Today wasn't a good day for me and I not only blogged once but later I decided to get rid of some baggage feelings that kept acting as a stumbling block on this new life I am carving out of myself. Out with the old and in with the new. Come read my bare-all blog from tonight. I hope I won't regret this in the morning but it just felt like the right time to let it go.

Lise - thanks for the Goodie! Saw your comment about the grandkids - I'm only getting the 1 apparently. He's really tall for his age but then we all were too - that is until grade 5 and then never grew any taller! I used to be 5'2" but I'm now only 5'1." I doubt my DGS will be tall as an adult. My daughter is about 5'4" and her dad was about 5'8" and her husband is about 5'6." My son-in-law has a brother who is taller than he so maybe he'll get a bit more. We'll see. May not have hair after 20 either as men in his family (2 generations I know of) had only a fringe by 20 or 21. It's interesting to pick out a bit of this relative and that relative in someone. We had DGS for an over night last night. We took him to a model train show today in Lindsay. He loved it but was ready to go home after about 45 mins.
