The Wonder of it All

Hello! I'm BAAAACK..... I'm 61 years young, and getting younger by the day! That may sound crazy, but it's true. In January of 2009, I weighed well over 310 pounds, could hardly walk, and had a perpetually sour look on my face. I hid from pictures, and loathed buying new clothes. I wore no makeup, and really didn't care what I looked like. I was in an incredible amount of pain from severe spinal stenosis, and bone-on-bone osteoarthritis of the knees.

Today, I am happy, but I was happier two years ago, when I was very close to my goal weight. During the past two years, I have been living with a sabateur -- a loving one, but still someone who frequently sabotaged my weak willpower, and I regained nearly 50 pounds of the 100+ that I lost. Even so, I now love to buy pretty things, wear makeup, and I have an assortment of beautiful and sassy wigs so that I can "change" who I am on any given day, and I've only gone back up 2 pants sizes (but that's 2 too many!).

Thanks to a laminectomy and fusion, I'm no longer in pain from my back, and the knee issues were dealt with when I replaced BOTH of them on the same day a year and a half ago. I WAS doing a regular exercise program, but a Worker's Compensation injury has sidelined me, and I'm still dealing with it on a legal basis, so any vigorous exercise is out for now, although I still try to ride my stationary bike (because even normal walking hurts my shoulder - with the weight of my arm stressing the tears in the tendons).

I think the best thing about my weight loss is that now I CARE about myself. I CARE enough to work at being healthy, eating healthy, and maintaining this great new lifestyle! I'm having FUN again - for the first time in maybe 30 years!

Personal Information:
I live in Denver, Colorado.

In my mundane life, I work for the state. In my spiritual life, I honor the feminine divine, and am a Dianic Priestess, serving the women's community. I am also an "End-of-Life Transition Coach" or "Death Doula", and I own my own business making Goddess rosaries (Gaia, Isis, Kwan Yin, Sarasvati, Hecate, White Buffalo Calf Woman, Cerridwen, Lilith, Kali, Medusa, Daena, Wilendorf, The Triple Goddess, The Dreaming Goddess, The Chalice Seeker, and the Spiral Goddess). I also have fun with other Goddess handicrafts, such as travel-sized altar boxes, Totem dolls, Intention Dolls, witchy signs, embossed velvet pouches, and water-bottle carriers with Goddess appliques.

I am OUT, loud and proud.

Other Information:
I am a voracious reader.... (I'll even read the toilet paper wrappers if there's nothing else to read!). My favorite books right now are the Maeve Chronicles by Elizabeth Cunningham, and the The Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra. Additionally, I'm reading "The Tipping Point" and "Blink" by Malcom Gladwell. I also love the "People of" series by Kathleen O'Neil Gear and Michael Gear; the Darkover series by Marion Zimmer Bradley; the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel; any Goddess Spirituality book (by Diane Stein, Barbara G. Walker, Vicky Noble, Ruth Barrett, Jean Shinoda Bolin, Merlin Stone, Mary Daly, Shekhinah Mountainwater, Z Budapest, Starhawk, Phyllis Curot, and others); any book by Taylor Caldwell, any book by Robert Ludlum, With Roots in Heaven by Tirzah Firestone

I enjoy Goddess music by various artists - Shawna Carol, Lisa Thiel, Jennifer Berezan, Ruth Barrett, Libana, and others. I also love country music, and "women's" music artists like Cris Williamson, Holly Ne

YAY Erica!! I'm so glad you're going to join me on the cardio challenge!! It will officially start Sunday (tomorrow). Do you have any ideas yet for your one "off the beaten track" workout? I'm thinking I might try Wii Punch Out or maybe bicycling...

"Beautiful Woman Award! Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the wall of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out"
