First 5k Walk

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Well I just got done with my first 5k. The first mile I was able to do the walk/run approach, but after that I was only able to walk. The thing is that I am just sooo out of shape, and in fact I was only on week 1 of the walk/jog program, but I figured what the hell I'm gonna go ahead and do it and see how it goes. I was able to complete it in 60 minute exactly almost.

Now truth be told I actually walked 3.42 miles (because that is what my route it) and it is full of hills and valleys so I think that maybe my time would be better if it was a flat track or road course of some sort, but I don't really know. I am just psyched that I was able to do it because the most I have walked recently was a little over 2 miles and I just added walking to my workout routine this Monday.

On a side note I am down 9 pounds since I have joined the site and I am really stoked about that, I know that this journey isn't a race to lose weight, but I'll be happy when I'm able to jog/run in one!

I hope everyone is having a good day and that you all reach your goals set before you! Remember that you CAN do it one inch at a time if need be.

That's still awesome! I am running my first 5k in September and I am scared to death. I know that I need to start working a little more each day till race day. There is a first for everything and now you have a goal to beat with your next 5k.

Great job on 9 ponds down! emoticon

The Monday Blues

Monday, August 05, 2013

I know what you might have been thinking when you read the title to this blog. Oh no what could have gone wrong? Another dreary Monday? Well let me put your mind to rest. This Monday has been GREAT! The blue in the title refers to the blue skies that I was able to spend some time under a little while ago while I completed my walk/run.

Today marked the first day of my new training regimen. I walk/ran a total of 1.71 miles and came home to finish it all up with a brisk paced 17 minute total gym workout. All things considered I feel wonderful and I can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow. Though, tomorrow I will not be hitting the total gym for strength, I am thinking about lowering the unit down and maybe just trying to do some quick extra aerobic/cardio on it.

I hope everyone else's day went at least as good, if not better than mine!

May all your dreams come true except one!

Taking Tomorrow Off to Prepare for Monday!

Saturday, August 03, 2013

Well I closed out the week strong! I did some strength training and even a little bit of cardio today and I'm sure that I'll be feeling it tomorrow. I will be taking tomorrow off from exercising (I may do a light cardio or aerobic video) and then come Monday I'll be adding in my new running training to my strength training.

I was originally going to break up the days, but after doing some research it looks like I should be okay with doing both in the same day as long as I pay attention and make sure that I provide my body with enough rest. I'm really excited to start the running portion and I am hopeful that I'll be able to run a 5k after I have completed the 8 week program. OH! I almost forgot to mention that I'll also be starting my "scaling back" of my cigarettes starting on this Monday as well so it certainly looks like I have a lot of challenges set out before me, but that only means I have more ways in which I can succeed!

Even the Smallest Change is Change

Friday, August 02, 2013

I've noticed that since I started my weight loss journey that there are some good days and some bad days. Instead of focusing on the "bad" things in the so called bad days I have been trying to look at the small strides I make. Sure we may stumble on one goal we had for the day, but perhaps we did a little extra on something else. Even the smallest change is still a change, and in the end a whole lot of small changes can add up to one big life altering change.

I just tell myself to keep pushing and to keep moving forward. Doesn't matter if I am moving forward 1 mile, 1 yard, 1 foot, or 1 inch at time. It all counts in the end.

Cheers and happy Friday everyone!

I agree whole heartedly!!! I think we internalize small changes sooner too, and they stay with us. Keep on rockin! :)

Today's Workout Was So Rough!

Thursday, August 01, 2013

Wow! I don't really know where to start, but oh Lord today's strength training was super rough. Those of you who have been keeping up with my blog the past few days know that I have been using my new Total Gym XLS for the past month and that I absolutely love it!

With that being said I took yesterday off from strength training (per my wifes request due to her worrying about me using it e-v-e-r-y single day) and decided to just work on some cardio. Well today I went back to it and I think through a combination of adding another set (went from 2 to 3) and increasing the reps from 12 to 15 that I simply over challenged myself. I actually had to lower my incline down a level to ensure that I could keep a good form. I was able to complete everything, but WOW it was seriously tough, and I think that I might have to take tomorrow off from it as well. . .depending on how I feel.

One thing I really do like about the Total Gym is that you can go into each different exercise in little or no time, and over the course of the workout it can really sky rocket you heartbeat. I know that by the time I get half way through my workout my heart is beating like a freight train and the sweat is just dripping off of me. It really does combine strength with a good dose of cardio!

I guess that's about it, time to go drink my muscle milk and hit the shower. Hope everyone has a great day and I wish you all success with your fitness goals!
