Feeling Accomplished!

Thursday, June 27, 2013

It seems weird because I am not seeing a lot of differences in the scale, but even weirder is that I don't care this week. I found out this week that I made the honor roll with high distinction, had a new student try out my kickboxing class, went and lifted weights in my school gym for the first time, and my relationship with my dad is the best its been. I am more confident and I feel good. I don't feel lazy or heavy. I feel proud and light. The changes I am making in this one area of my life are spilling over into other areas, and its benefiting everything I am doing. I am trying new things and experiencing less anxiety.
Seemingly, I am making progress. But it has no quantitative measure. And I am perfectly okay with that.

Good for you! I figure we are complex human beings - there is a lot more to us than our weight. That's one of the things I appreciate about SparkPeople. Our healthy lifestyles are about more than a number on the scale - they are about nutrition, and exercise, and living a balanced life, and challenging ourselves, and learning new things, and changing negative thought patterns..... And the list goes on!

More changes...

4. Walk More! During the school year, I am walking all the time to and from class, and around campus. Now that I am not going to class, I walk much less. Today, I parked my car across campus to go to work and burned a few extra calories!

A few changes...

I have been thinking about five things in my life that I want to change. And I don't have all five, but I am happy with what I have!

1. No diet soda - I had my first diet soda in over a month yesterday, and I felt terrible afterwards. Never again.

2. Read one new book- Suggestions anyone?

3. Daily Mantras- Waking up each morning with determination/a goal, and going to bed satisfying my goal. I tend to be anxious, and I think this could help focus my energy.

Still need two more, but I am still looking for inspiration!

5 Changes

Friday, June 21, 2013

Yesterday I was watching a TV show and the main character suggested making five changes in your life because once you become accustomed to something, you stop changing and evolving. Since I am in college, I feel like I grow the most as a person at school and that coming home sometimes means regressing from the life I want to create for myself. Hearing the suggestion of making five changes really got me thinking. What five changes could I make?

Honestly, I am not quite sure. I am going to start looking for inspiration about what changes I could make to my life to help me grow as a person. Today, I am taking a much-needed mental health day to rest my body and my mind. Hopefully, I will think of something to make a spark in my life.

Your changes could be based on various goals, like, read a "classic" piece of literature a year (or two) I started doing this, and love them!

Compete in several 5k's, or a triathalon, or a half marathon... anything like that!

hmmm... learn a new little hobby, knitting, crochet...

take a new class?

Wow, I like this idea, I think I might do these!

I eat really well when I work because both my breakfast and lunch are pre-prepared. And I have learned to order unsweetened green tea instead of my normal (second) cup of coffee. However, if I do not cook my own dinner or provide my own dinner, then I tend to eat the wrong foods. I feel bad when I have to tell my parents that I can't eat what they have brought home...but I am learning to eat smaller amount of 'less healthy' food. I also work out regularly when I am at work, because the gym is on my way home. Days off are when I just want to sleep and not move off the couch. I guess if I prepare breakfast for my days off as well, then that can reduce some of the extra calories. But, nevertheless, I am making better choices everyday and that is all I can ask for!

I find its much easier sticking to my food goals on workdays, when it comes to the weekend its much harder. I think its not having that routine you have when you are at work. Also if you are with friends etc, then it's harder to make better choices.

You are doing the right thing -- making changes that are taking in fewer unhealthy calories. I think overall you need to look at your Spark People calorie range and not measure yourself by the past -- but by what is healthy for you. You have taken several steps to get yourself in the right direction so that shows your heart is in this. I commend you for that and know that you can totally do this!
