Freezing Herbs in Oil - Got this from a magazine

Friday, May 02, 2014

I am learning to freeze a lot of different foods instead of throwing out food along with my money! So, I thought I share the tip!

Here are some tips on preserving herbs in oil.

8 Steps for Freezing Herbs in Oil

Choose firm, fresh herbs, ideally from the market or your own garden.
If you wish, you can chop them fine. Or leave them in larger sprigs and leaves. Here I froze a combination of finely-chopped and whole herbs such as rosemary, fennel stalk, sage, and oregano.

Pack the wells of ice cube trays about 2/3 full of herbs.
You can mix up the herbs, too; think about freezing a bouquet garni of sage, thyme, and rosemary to add to winter roast chickens and potatoes!

Pour extra-virgin olive oil or melted, unsalted butter over the herbs.
Cover lightly with plastic wrap and freeze overnight.
Remove the frozen cubes and store in freezer containers or small bags.
Don't forget to label each container or bag with the type of herb (and oil) inside!

Just did not want to go

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I just did not want to go to the gym today. Then I thought about a spark article about how no one ever feels guilty about going to the gym but do feel guilty if they don't go. So, I went. I was on the stationary bike for half an hour (instead of spinning or kickboxing for an hour) but hey I went. And now that I did the 30 minutes of cardio, I did feel like taking my usual 30 abs class. So, yeah it was worth it. Best part... no guilt whats so ever.

Keep moving spark buddies!

I've read that article too and what a great reminder. Lately what keeps me going is the fact I have exercised every day since 12/26/11. Don't want to stop the streak.

I am so glad you shared!

Thanks for the reminder about that article. I haven't been able to go the last 2 days due to a family situation and it's on my mind all the time. I'm hoping to get back to it tomorrow. It's a great feeling when you don't have any guilt about working out, isn't it? Way to go!

Its my birthday! Its my birthday! Its my birthday!

Friday, January 11, 2013

Today was really lots of fun.

Once the kids were off to school I headed for the gym for a spinning class. I then heading for the sauna after that took a shower and headed home.

My friend picked me up and we went for our body massages and a foot reflexology massage. Next, we went to Cosi for lunch, we had a yummy lunch and delightful conversation.

My buddy drop me off then I jumped in my van to pick up my kids. As soon as we got home they ran upstairs to get my presents. Which they would not let me open until daddy came home. They were so cute about it too. When daddy came home he bought me a ice cream cake then I got to open my presents. All gym stuff like a new gym bag and sport bras. Too cute.

DH is taking me to dinner and a movie (Lincoln) tomorrow evening. Oh and for an extra treat my beautiful niece to coming to spend the day with us. Then she and her BF will watch the kids while we go out for the evening.

Great day!

Thanks for sharing your day. As a mother whose kids now have kids of their own, I want to advise you to cherish these days. My biggest regret as a mother was that I didn't just stop once in a while and let the joy of my kids fill me. I hope you're wiser.

(My kids still give me joy, but now I tell them about it!)

it starts with a Kiss and ends with a commitment.

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

It starts with a Kiss and ends with a commitment. Sorry, young lovers, I am talking about nutrition and fitness.

We enthusiastically make New Year's resolutions to change our health and our life, only to watch them fizzle out in months, weeks or even days.

So, I read a SP article and reminded myself about what I want, need and desire in my life. And losing weight will play a major role since all my wants, needs and desires required me to be fit and healthy.

However, I need to be specific and realistic with my goals to reach my ultimate goal. I need to focus. I am starting with a kiss.

KISS = Keep it simple sweetie!

I will use both the nutrition tracker and fitness tracker and reconfigure my nutrition numbers. I will weigh in weekly not daily and not once in awhile. I will take actions. I will workout both cardio and strength training even if it means my home gym.

I need to use some of my favorite tools thus far in my 30+ weight loss which are: Sparkpeople and the gym to help me lose the next 15lbs.

Joining SparkPeople is like joining the gym... it only works if you use it! COMMITMENT IS KEY.

I will be strong and focus on my plan which starts with a KISS and ends with a COMMITMENT.

Want to join me?

There ARE some benefits of getting older, such as growing wisdom and patience. I plan to get a little older, smarter, more patient and most importantly to get the most out of my life and be grateful for each day.

Oh and uh, I WILL hit ONDERLAND in 2013! emoticon
