Laughing with friends

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

These are my closest high school friends...and I swear, even though we only get together a few times...or even just once a year, we laugh and have the best time!

This was just taken at my friend Fred's wedding (next to me)...he's the last of us to finally tie the knot. All of our spouses just add to the fun because they all get along so great...we are truly blessed to have such a group, we truly are.

Right after this was taken...which took us all night long to get (lol)...we had a very funny "AminalHouse-esque" situation of running around the hotel trying to find the location of the bride & groom's hotel room, which for some reason was harder than you might think. We just wanted to slip a gag gift under their door emoticon...imagine our surprise when in the juice aisle of the supermarket, I am eye-level with a REAL METAL PAIR OF HANDCUFFS! (Ages 8+) it said on the box - LOL!!! I couldn't resist! Thus the plan of finding the room. I swear, I have never laughed hard or so much as at us running down a long hallway just to stay hidden from the bride and groom exiting an elevator! So juvenile and so stupid, but so funny at 1am!

========================================
=

Anyway...the wedding of the year is done....and a goal is done as well. Now to the next goal...maintain what I've done thru the holidays...maybe even get back into cardio now that cooler weather is here. I'm not stopping my healthy eating - it's more important even more now that I've been drinking like a fish...and I think I can't do that too much either (dang) because it makes me feel like junk. Next BIG EVENT that I can see - well, that would be my 20 year highschool reunion in 2011...Watch out...I'm going in to that one SMOKIN'!!!! emoticon

The wedding was great!

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Gee, I wish my camera didn't crap out on me though!!! It totally died by the end of the night. Not like I was taking too many pics at that point! I put them in my photogallery, the ones I have. I was Juuuuuust a little bit tipsy....just a bit. emoticon

Well, the weather was absolutely HORRIBLE that morning heading out to Montauk Point..but at least there was no traffic in sight. All of the day trippers were gone, so the ride only took and hour and a half. I basically got there and hung out for 3 hours while everyone else had their hair and makeup done. Now, I had NO IDEA how my hair would cooperate, and in the bathroom in the hallway, I absolutely felt queezy and shaky while doing it. But all turned out well...it turned out nice...for my hair at least emoticon and I have to admit, I did have the ugly duckling sister thing going on in my head. It's just how I am....very sad , but admittedly true. It's just me and my selfconciousness. BTW - Hubby was going to strangle me if I said another word about it...because he loves me and I'm a "fool for even saying it".

My GOD - professional makeup is like SPACKLE! holy moley! anyway, my little sis did hers that way too, and it looked good, and I kept adding to mine because there you have it - another "ugly duckling, I'm not good enough" moment from me. Told you I am mental. emoticon

But wedding pictures finally started before the ceremony, and if I get a few of those, I'll post them too. It was the first time we ever had a wedding with pics before the ceremony....I LOVED IT! After the ceremony, you could reallly relax. The ceremony was beautiful! My sister married my husband's first cousin. She was widowed 4 years ago by my husband's brother....and this cousin was there to help with the baby, and they eventually fell in love. No, people, not one bit of blood relation there at all between the sisters and brothers married, or cousinds, for that matter....it's just how life happened. It makes for quite a family tree though and a very interesting tale to tell....maybe I'll write a novel one day.

The wedding was only 50 people, and right before the ceremony started, we were waiting upstairs...and the rain ceased, and the sun shone on a distant bluff...and the wind died down. A sign from above for sure. A blessing from a first love to his first love on her wedding day to another really great guy whom he loved like a brother.

My sister's son (4 years old) was right by her side when she got married too. It was definitely a family unification. He was tired and pissy and shy, but there was NO WAY that he wasn't going to be with Mommy and Daddy. There was no couples dance, there was no couple walking down the aisle....it was a complete family affair at all points and to see them all dance together was awesome. Very sweet!

As far as the food and service at this place.....as with everything out east on Long Island....it was overpriced just for the ambiance!! the food was OK, the service stunk, and the liquor - well, what place doesn't have Peach Schnapps for a decent Sex on the Beach?!?! Well. the Montauk Yacht Club, that's who! Uggh. That is all I am going to say about that. 5 star resort my a$$! Try 3.

I digress...the liquor was enough to get me housed and take away my inhibitions. My new bro-in-law even flipped me head over heals before I left....and then his cousin tried to do the same! At least his wife said my butt looked good emoticon I have no idea if that is true or not....she's kind of a teaser.

The drive back was exhausting!!! Everyone was still partying it up because they all had rooms close by...we, unfortunately had to get back to the sitters, whom I am very lucky to have this night. We got home at 12:45 am. In bed at 1:30am. Up at 6am because of the kids missing us. Loved them & missed them for the last 4 days of working and rehearsing and partying.

Well...that is basically it in a nutshell....I had fun, the bride was beautiful, the groom is a lucky guy and fun was had by all! I'd call that SUCCESS!!!!!!

Now I have 4 days to recouperate until the drive to WV and another wedding of my high school chum....I won't be wearing the black/white dress afterall. Just black....and simple. Maybe for this one I'll straighten my hair...

First of all, you've got to get over your self-consciousness; you're beautiful, inside and out!

What a great idea to take the pictures before the wedding. You're so right; it would be a lot more relaxing.

What a great story!

As far as the resort goes, I hate to tell you, I think the overpriced food and poor service is more the norm, especially for weddings and such occasions, than not.

I hope you got yourself rested up for the wedding of your high school friend and had your camera completely charged.

Sounds like the ugly duckling had a great time in spite of yourself.

I think that is normal - we know we shouldn't do it be we constantly compare ourselves to others.

Maybe some day we will get over it.

Enjoy the next wedding too!

Playing with makeup & being girlie

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

My sister is getting married this Saturday!!! Kind of a black & white affair for 50 people out in Montauk - very fancy!!!! Don't be jealous either...I have to travel an hour and a half in traffic each way just to get there for 2 days worth of wedding stuff....rehearsal and then wedding. NOT looking forward to that part.

ANYWHOOOO - My sister is going to be glammed up...my other sister and SIL will be staying out there as well, and will be pampered too. Thus leaving me to my own devices - which to be completely honest, I am very happy about. The hair has been colored and looks good...the cut, however, is not so nice for an updo anymore emoticon. An angular modified bob is not the type of cut the lends itself easy to a half-updo, which I was planning to do. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Looks like I'm heading for a French twist with some sparklies in it.

BUT MAKEUP!!!! OMG - I just raided BB&B's Revlon section for all of their Colorstay makeup! So the next few days, I am going to be a glamazon! Face #1 so far is good...and I have to ask myself: "why have you never tried liquid liner woman?!?" I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!! (I'm testing the staying power of all this stuff too. I have to be done up 6 hours before the pictures even start! ) and then I got the new double plumping mascara in blackest black - another OMG!!! WOW! between the 2 products my eyes just POP POP POP!!!!

I'm also a little obsessed with self tanning products. My sisters are all very tan. Just call me the whitest chick on the planet, thank you very much. I HATE IT. So I've been using the Jergens lotion and some bronzer. The compliments I have been getting the last 2 weeks have been astounding! "Have you lost more weight" No people. "Something is different...you look so healthy" It's bronzer. "Wow, how natural!" Yeah - I'm a makeup guru. ROFL LMAO!!! Hopefully in these wedding pics, I'm not orange!!! LOL emoticon

OMG! ANOTHER THING I have to ask myself: "WHY in the WORLD had you never owned a strapless bra?" This thing is GREAT! I've bet they have come a long long way, because silicone strips are lining the body of it and it stays up really really well. I highly recommend the Seven way one from Victoria's Secret...it also adds a little plump to the girls, if you catch my drift...they haven't been the same since the downsizing. emoticon emoticon

So that is my week so far...I'm being "girlie" Tomorrow is work, then work, then travel to rehearsal, then wedding, then recouperate. Then the following weekend we have another wedding in Pittsburgh, 8 hours away! Summer is definitely going out with a very expensive bang! emoticon emoticon

Sounds like fun! Minus the drive... but then I have to drive 1 1/2 hours almost weekly to see my dd and ds and that is with the city traffic of Toronto (Ontario, CAN) ~ so I hope that goes smooth for you.
My daughter is getting married next summer, so just reading your blog has gotten me so excited... the wedding is my motivation to reach my goal!

And oh yeah... liquid eye liner all the way!!!!

Have a blast!!

You certainly do have a way with words. I think Revlon, Jergens, and Victoria's Secret ought to give you some freebies just for the advertising.

As for the products, I used liquid eyeliner for years ( I come from the age when women were having their liner tattooed on their eyelids.), and you're right, it stays on a lot better than other liners; I use a crayon now (because it give me a bit softer look), but when I want lasting power, I revert back to the liquid. Make sure you use the long lasting lipstick too; I've tried different brands (cheap and more expensive) and they've all been pretty good, so just look for a good color and go with that one. Because I'm one of those who doesn't tan well, I've tried different tanning products; since Jergens came out with their natural glow daily moisturizer I haven't tried anything else. I don't use it daily, but when there's a special event coming up...And, my daughter has that bra; she's told me I needed to invest in one. So, now with two of my favorite people telling me about it, I guess I'll check it out.

Make sure you get a close up picture of your face so that you can show us how beautiful you look!

Drive safe; with the distance you have to travel, leave yourself plenty of time so you don't have to rush. Have a great time this weekend! Take lots and lots of pictures!

Weight training fun!

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Just wanted to blog about what I'm doing right now in regard to my exercise routine.
Well - it's too darned humid and hot right now to be bothered with the cardio. Sorry, it just is. I like to sweat now, but I like to be able to breathe as well. So there you go.

So in my boredom of watching tv with my family and then just my hubby, I decided to start doing some crunches and resistance bands for my arms. This eventually led to some dumbells and pilates. I keep switching it up and doing what I feel like doing at that moment. In fact, I'm up to a hour a night doing my dfferent strength routines.

Now, just by doing this (which I hate to admit - I have never really religiously committed to doing before - I am more of a cardio kid) my body is more toned, my energy is up, and I am slowly losing those pounds (about 6) that crept back on.

I read somewhere that if a woman introduced just pushups and situps into her routine and increased the reps when things got easier...she would lose 7 pounds in a few months and tone up. Don't ask me where I got the info from...it just stuck in my head as "WOW!! impressive!"

I keep that in the back of my head when I'm doing these exercises. It makes me not fall off the wagon for more than 3 days (which just happened because of a social week) and I like seeing the results of the training (shoulder definition, biceps, triceps, visible clavicle).

I've been on SP for more than a year now...there is always something new to learn here and about oneself. So you see... you can teach an old dog new tricks! emoticon

MEN!

Friday, August 21, 2009

I swear to all that is HOLY!! I am a little peeved against my lovely hubby.

We went out with friends last night...had fun and out until 9:30 (I know....ooooo! very late!) ROFL

I had on the calendar a happy hour with my girlfriend tonight...I didn't even want to go either, but I went because I said I would and she was so happy...I just got home at 9:15 b/c I was feeling bad he was testy on the phone 45 minutes earlier...HE IS IN BED! and I went in to say I was home and all he says is "I'm tired." MEN!!!!!! He is being such a BABY!! emoticon
I just don't get why his panties are in such a twist!!!!

Anyway. Happy hour is pretty much the same as I remember it. I'm not missing much, that is for sure. Basically 4 women, ages 36 to 38, go onto the back patio - on the bay - wind blowing. Very nice. 12 years ago....I would have be the fat friend and wanting to hide. Tonight, I'm not caring b/c I'm happily married and wearing a cute beachy dress with flip-flops and sunglasses in my hair. I have to actually wonder if people were actually looking at me...if they were, I was not aware...and I did not care. I love being older and wiser.

So me and the cougars...yes, cougars...single, hot mom's....got this spot in the gazebo by the boats. My friend's co-worker shows up with his friends, and EVENTUALLY they start opening up because it starts raining and they join us in the gazebo. OMG - these kids were BABIES!!! 24, 25 yo - LOL I was wetting my pants b/c it was just such a funny scene!!! I was the youngest of the ladies there too. I was drinking seltzer with lime - which was a little tip I got from somewhere online - people think it's a gin and tonic! LOL which one of these kids asked if he could get me b/c he was hitting the bar. Total fakeout!!!!

Well the little tykes were pretty funny when I packed it in. I made my very true excuses for leaving (one being a pissy husband, and kids to take care of, and that I have to work in the morning) - they were shocked that I was married and had 3 kids! They all thought I was 26 years old! LMAO!! emoticon So there you go - that just made my night!! Pissy hubby aside, that made my night!!!

LOL - I don't know if any of you are "subscribed" to this or not, but hubby got awoken by some fireworks and came downstairs as I was typing this blog...so I told him the whole night because, well, we share pretty much everything. He doesn't say much of anything sometimes, which is fine...he's fine, just had a "headache". He's got his own "anxiety" stuff going on, and sometimes he's just hard to read - even to me who has been with him for 12 years! ROFL! Honestly, I think he's never been a fan of my friend, although that is slowly changing now that she is back on LI. I think he wished he was hanging out with me instead of the kids!!!

Hmmm, was you hubby perhaps a bit jealous? After all, he's got a pretty sexy wife! Wish I could give you some advice that would make things better the next time; however, when I was your age, if I were to go out like you did, I would probably have received a similar action from my hubby.

Years ago, once a year, there was a work-related event that I was required to attend; after it was over, some of us would go somewhere for a drink or two. For almost two weeks, my hubby acted like a little boy. It took several years, but his actions have matured (Well, I think they have! Then again, I'm no longer going out without him. LOL).

I'm afraid I have to disagree with some of the advise you were given. Wait a few days, and then discuss the situation with him; ask him why he was upset and what he was expecting. Ignoring the problem will not make it go away; in fact, it may be worse the next time. And, there will be the opportunity for you to join your girlfriends for a night out; so, address it now.

EBETHET:
ROFL = Rolling on the floor laughing
LMAO = Laughing my a** (or arse) off
(By the way, I had to look them up!)

Love the "babies"...

Just ignore the pissy husband. You deserve to have some fun with your gal pals. It's not your problem that your husband can't handle it. It's HIS problem! Don't give it another thought, except smirking to yourself at what fun you had while he was home with the kids. And whatever you do, don't try to "talk" to him about how he acted when you came home. Then he'll know it bothered you. Just pretend you didn't even notice.

It sounds like you enjoyed your evening out with friends. My husband doesn't mind if I go out, but of course we have other issues. As much as you love them, husbands can be very trying at times!

I have a question on some of the phrases. I know lol is laughing out loud. What do these mean?
