I am back after almost an entire year! Good grief! I need a jumpstart! Can anyone recommend something that will give me a good swift kick of motivation?

Day 1 Sugar Detox

Oh boy! I FINALLY decided to take the plunge. Here goes nothing, or perhaps more appropriately, here goes everything! I don't just have 1 sweet tooth, I believe that my entire mouth is filled with sweet teeth! The next 2 weeks are going to be hard, but I am committed. I kind of just want to get this done and over with. And I pray that this detox really does get my sweet teeth under control! The amount of sugar I consume is definitely a detriment to my health and I am tired of it! we go! emoticon

    I'll pray for and think of you as you go through sugar detox. It will be good for your boys also. Even though fruits are mostly sugar, they have other nutrients including fiber. Even though some members seem to only think of baked goods or ice cream as desserts, for me, I have fruit.

There are ideas that pop up on Spark or you can research. At most I will add a little yogurt to berries when not eating plain. There are other ideas for dips or toppings. And I plan to try the "ice cream" made by whipping bananas!!

Good luck. btw: you do know that Colorado is #1 for fitness and weight. Here in PA, not so good. Senior population doesn't help. And I am one of them. 79 y/o @ 5 ft (down from 5/2) emoticon

A Load of Bricks

I think this exercise thing could become addicting! After finishing the 5k Your Way Walking program, I decided to try the 5K Your Way walk/run program. I actually jogged today for the first time! I felt like I weighed 2 tons! Ha! However, it feels good mentally. I may feel like a load of bricks trying to jog down the road, but it is really empowering mentally to know that "I can do this"!

And for SASIKHASI1 Don't despair over the running. Walking is a great thing to do for ourselves!! As for your shoulders hurting, I learned from my physical therapist that my posture was atrocious, and I've always been proud of my posture. Well, I think it used to be something to be proud of, and I know it will again. AND the work I'm now doing for that has shown me that proper posture gets rid of other aches and pains that I never connected to posture. Something to think about and look into.

    Good for you, you have a good attitude and that is so important. I do not run because it hurts my knees, and my shoulders. So I walk. I do not know why it makes my shoulders hurt, but it does.

Road Trip Roadblock

Just got back from a fun RV trip to Yellowstone with family! I was very determined to stick with my calorie counting sparkpeople app and continue to lose weight! However, what I had not planned on, was losing cell service as well as internet service. So here I was in beautiful Yellowstone without my app that has helped me to stay on track. I could have looked at this as a roadblock and been stuck, but I chose to find another route. I portioned my snacks to take on hikes and tried really hard to mentally track my calories. I got home last night. This morning, I stepped on the scale to check my status. The results? I lost .2 pounds! I have to say that I am happy with this result! I may not have lost much, but hey! At least I didn't gain! I am back in the land of communication and I am back on track counting my calories. Let's go Sunshine! emoticon

    You're doing great, but I'm very impressed that you went to Yellowstone in July. We went to Grand Canyon the first week in June, 2007. Morning on the rim was 45 degrees, but the temperature ramped up quickly to summertime heat by about 10 a.m.

When I travel, I limit carb servings to 3 - 4 each meal and make sure I load up on fresh fruit and veggies at meals and for snacks. I don't seem to have trouble with the protein and fats, so I don't worry about them, just keep on doing like I was at home. I've had to learn to count carbs since my mom developed diabetes. I figure eating a diabetic plan as if I were pre-diabetic will only help me as I lose weight. So I'm learning what makes up a carb serving (about 15 carb grams).

Now I play a game seeing how close I can come to the requirements for the meal and percentages of nutrients before I enter things into the tracker. I almost like playing my nutrition game better than sudoku!!

    For me, returning home after a two week vacation with a 2 lb. weight gain was a relief! I was afraid that I might have gained more! Back on track now, tracking and making better choices. The absolute toughest thing for me was the 4 days of car travel (over 500 miles each day). I just wanted to snack!!

    Way to go - that is so exciting for you! One thing I do when I am on a road trip, and I have to go on loads of them, is keep a tiny note pad handy. I write down what I ate, as close to portion as I can, and then I record online when I get back to cell-service. There have been many times when I turn down 'extra food" because I don't want to have to write it in the little book! It helps!

I am a brand new member to sparkpeople and this is my very first blog entry. I am not sure about this, but here goes...

This is week 3 counting my calories and following a plan to participate in the SparkPeople's Official 5Kyour way. I did AWESOME the first week! In fact, I lost 5 pounds! How come I fell off the wagon this 3rd week? Good question! One that remains unanswered. However, today is a new day and I plan on jumping back on that wagon and continue on my journey happily and with energy! I want to SHINE! I want to shine on the inside and shine out to others with encouragment. emoticon

    You have realized your slip last week and now it is time to go back to what you did on week one. You've seen it work and have made some progress. So onward.
