The last "long" run before the marathon

Saturday, November 07, 2009

Today marks the last long run before the marathon, though I feel silly calling it a long run as it is only 11 miles. Have to say though, no matter how I do next Sunday, I am more than a little amazed with myself. When I started this year those 6 mile runs were my "longs" and now they're my average, I don't even think twice about running a half marathon, and the self-doubt doesn't kick in until we've past the 17 mile mark.

Probably the biggest lesson learned is that 26 miles is a LONG way! For my long runs my husband drops me off then drives down to the end point to wait for me with the dogs...it's a long drive down to that end point and that was just for the 20s!

The unexpected side of all this is I am looking forward to enjoying running again. It's not as though I am having a terrible time in training (but I could do without the injury), but there's something a lot more free in just running for the sake of running.

See? I am not crazy eater every day :)

So today was MUCH better, even with the lunch date at Winger's. 2000 calories gross and about 1550 net...so right on target. It's late and heading to bed so short blog post tonight.

I actually ran home from work!!! As work has been a huge bugaboo lately this felt better than you can imagine. Or maybe you can imagine? I mean, who among us has not felt compelled to run away from our jobs at least once in a while? I kept thinking during the run "I bet this would suck running TO work"...and I still think it probably would. So, instead, I'm going to try and ride the bike to work tomorrow as my truck is still at the office!

Thanks all for your comments...very encouraging and welcome. And I am not a total schmuck, I plan on devoting some quality time this weekend to looking at other blogs and posts...just way too swamped right now to do more than blog. As blogging keeps me honest (and on track!) I can't let it slide.

Tomorrow will be a treadmill run :( Trying to recover my knee after pushing it too far, hard and fast too soon so am alternating road runs with treadmill. Boring as all get out but the mill does let me push myself in ways I am not skilled enough to do on my own.

11 days to San Antonio Marathon!!! (egads!)

Starting over is hard to do

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

OK. So first day on this site...amazing how much you have to enter to get things situated just right! I was on another website and, for various reason, am not there now. Sad, but true. If anyone knows of a duck in search of a dishy doc you just let me know cause I miss you all very much! emoticon

We'll see how things go here. Mainly I am looking for something very easy to use yet still detailed enough to keep me on track, attributes I think this site possesses but I just haven't figure it all out yet.

Only 12 more days till my first marathon...still pretty much freaked out about this but as I have paid for the trip already what is a girl to do.

Due to AM crisis and continuing chaos throughout the day I managed to shove 5,000 calories down my throat (feel ill at the moment)...usually I am sooo good with a NET of 1500 calories almost without fail. Tomorrow is another day.
