better day

Saturday, September 13, 2014

Today is hubby and my 40th anniversary. We had a nice breakfast at home and are invited to our daughters house for dinner. Although my sleep last night was broken this morning after a hot shower the achy joints are easing. Maybe some ginger tea before stretching strength routine is in order. Spark cheers to all you spark pals. Have a great weekend.

hard start today

Thursday, September 11, 2014

This morning took first dose of phosomax for bone thinning. and am out of sorts. FIrst I am somewhat afraid of the medication. and then... Pill is taken on empty stomach with water. then no eating or laying down for at least 30 minutes 60 is better so no morning coffee . It is a damp day my joints are aching and I sat too long at a meeting yesterday and am paying for it now. Now on the bright side I did number 30 of the classical stretch series season 8 and could do most of it. The knees will not bend like a pretzel but things are gradually improving in flexibility . Really hope this punk feeling passes. I am going out and need some spark.

There's a LOT of ide effects to all of the drugs used to treat osteoporosis. It's not easy. See how it goes with the Fossamax and if yo continue to have problems, definitely talk w/the /Dr. about changing the medication.

Obviously, weight bearing exercise goes a long way towards building bone strength. Lots of aricles on SP that might help in re: osteoporosis.

My othropedist is also not a fan of that drug and in a few months when he re evaluates me thought is to give me the medication IV form which lasts for a year and is not as hard on the body. Do take those warnings on it seriously as it also could mean tooth loose

classical stretch

Sunday, September 07, 2014

This is day 27 of a 30 day cycle of strength and toning dvd. It looks deceptively easy . There is definitely an improvement in my flexibility and a decrease in pains in the back. There was a single program aired on PBS a while ago and It looked so good I ordered season 8 series. SOme of it is so hard I can not even do 1 percent but I am keeping at it and I can do much more than in the beginning. The teacher is Miranda Esmonde White . She is fantastic in her explanations of what is happening . I am learning the names of muscles I do not even remember from nursing school . This program is worth every dime

I really like her too! I discovered her on PBS and have one of her DVD's.
Much prefer her to yoga or pilates.

YES! That is a fabulous series. I haven't kept up with it as I do other activities, but it is wonderful! And agreed, she's a great teacher. For sure, she knows the musculoskeletal system and makes you FEEL it w/the exercises. Keep it up.

some how progress

Tuesday, July 01, 2014

It is almost scary to say that things are starting to actually work but it seems true. I reset my goals down to one month increments and wow it is actually happened. I am back down below 200 from 199.5 to 199 this week. I found #2 spat after losing it and buying # 3 so I have an extra how funny . # 2 was attached to a shirt at the bottom of a drawer. Things are on a positive momemtum right now. I have eliminated daytime murder shows from my time wasters and have developed a habit of morning scripture reading so I am thankfulfor many blessings today Spark cheers spark friends

thank you for the comments. I think avoiding that type of show is helping me mentally and spiritually . Even though I usually was moving during watching not sitting it still had a depressing effect

Good for you ioinc I seem to need t be in a continual renewal of goals as conditions keep changing. Thanks all of you

Little changes add up to big success! I'm glad you got out of the rut of watching daytime TV...inactivity usually doesn't add up to weight loss.

    Real progress indeed!! emoticon emoticon

Isn't it amazing how caught up you can get with those shows. My younger daughter was practically addicted to Investigational Discovery Channel until it seems she had pretty much seen all the shows. She was not working then so now that she is she does not watch them so much. I like your switch to morning scriptures from the daytime murder shows. No time wasted there!!!

I have to retool my goals too since I have plateaued with my weight loss from my regained weight. I have been trying to join a gym but work keeps getting in the way of getting over there to get my membership. My one goal is swimming a few days a week.

Have a terrific Tuesday!!!

new approaches

Monday, March 17, 2014

I have recently added 2 new parts to my plan for optimizing my health and fitness. First is Classical stretch a program I saw on PBS tried and ordered as a dvd series. It is a 25 minute show it gently increases flexibility with ballet / yoga poses using a physio therapy model. I think it is helping my knees and hips.

Second is an approach to eating using concepts presented by Dr ROsedale based on leptin research and neuro research by Dr david Perlmutter. Combining these two I am decreasing grains gluten and high glycemic foods and increasing healthy fats avocado, coconut, olive oil, wild caught fatty fish and decreasing grain raised red meat . Choosing free range eggs, and meats.
I will not be perfect at this but already my fasting sugar has dropped from 120s to mid 90s .

The next challenge will be finding a doctor to support this plan to get rid of metformin and statins

Your new diet will help you remarkably! I'm very glad you are dropping the gluten and high glycemic foods. Replacing with whole foods and healthy fats will go a long way in helping you feel better and your joints will love the avocados!

I don't know where you live but if you want a doc to help you get off the Metformin and Statins I would try finding a naturopath.

For lowering cholesterol you might want to look into Red Yeast Rice. Its amazing but a bit spendy. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I can vouch for the improvements in health waiting for you with this nutritional regimen!

There is a thread on the 'Natural Remedies for Healthy Living' team - March is Nutrition Month - I've included a link that has a search engine for finding doctors who will support your regimen.

I'd love it if you'd add some information about Dr. Rosedale's approach and whatever you know about Leptin.

Glad you joined the team!

Awesome work!!!! Yes, my way of attaining health is using all the information I've gathered from various sources that works for me and discarding what doesn't! It's not just one particular plan. *I like part of the South Beach Diet, parts of Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Joel Fuhrman's plans. All work for my blood sugar too! And I also really watch it with the glycemic index.*

Happy ST. Patrick's Day
