new approaches

Monday, March 17, 2014

I have recently added 2 new parts to my plan for optimizing my health and fitness. First is Classical stretch a program I saw on PBS tried and ordered as a dvd series. It is a 25 minute show it gently increases flexibility with ballet / yoga poses using a physio therapy model. I think it is helping my knees and hips.

Second is an approach to eating using concepts presented by Dr ROsedale based on leptin research and neuro research by Dr david Perlmutter. Combining these two I am decreasing grains gluten and high glycemic foods and increasing healthy fats avocado, coconut, olive oil, wild caught fatty fish and decreasing grain raised red meat . Choosing free range eggs, and meats.
I will not be perfect at this but already my fasting sugar has dropped from 120s to mid 90s .

The next challenge will be finding a doctor to support this plan to get rid of metformin and statins

Your new diet will help you remarkably! I'm very glad you are dropping the gluten and high glycemic foods. Replacing with whole foods and healthy fats will go a long way in helping you feel better and your joints will love the avocados!

I don't know where you live but if you want a doc to help you get off the Metformin and Statins I would try finding a naturopath.

For lowering cholesterol you might want to look into Red Yeast Rice. Its amazing but a bit spendy. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I can vouch for the improvements in health waiting for you with this nutritional regimen!

There is a thread on the 'Natural Remedies for Healthy Living' team - March is Nutrition Month - I've included a link that has a search engine for finding doctors who will support your regimen.

I'd love it if you'd add some information about Dr. Rosedale's approach and whatever you know about Leptin.

Glad you joined the team!

Awesome work!!!! Yes, my way of attaining health is using all the information I've gathered from various sources that works for me and discarding what doesn't! It's not just one particular plan. *I like part of the South Beach Diet, parts of Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Joel Fuhrman's plans. All work for my blood sugar too! And I also really watch it with the glycemic index.*

Happy ST. Patrick's Day

tough weekend

Friday, December 06, 2013

Wednesday my son, who does not have health insurance for financial reasons had pain from a hernia and went to emergency, he needs surgery soon. Then the next day my daughter called for me to drive about 100 miles to pick up her daughter from school because my daughter believes she is having a heart attack and is driving to the hospital . I convinced her she should call for an ambuance rather than drive 12 miles. I saw daughter, brought granddaughter home with me and am scheduled to babysit for my sons infant daughter today while her mom is apprenticing for a trade. TOmmorrow I am supposed to have baked things for the church Christmas fair. Sunday There is a major fun event that I bought expensive tickets for my other daughter (who is the quiet stable one ) and granddaughter for. .I am overwhelmed If this were a novel it would be unbelievable for all this stuff to be concentrated over a couple of days . aargh!

Thank you friends. Today we got further bad news. I called my uncle who has stomach cancer ( same as my mom died from last year ) He has had the report that his cancer has spread and he can have one other type of strong chemo and that will be the only other treatment they will recommend. I can not believe all of this.

Prayers and hugs.

three things

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Coach suggested writing three accomplishments then blogging on them. My three things are 1 walked the Leslie Sansone 5 mile walk in the morning then went outside with a friend and walked a mile outside in the afternoon as well as going garden cleanup.
2 was driving the 100 mile distance to my daughters house and staying over night with her. and grand daughter. a week or 2 ago
3 When same daughter called me on the phone with multiple complaints about me I did not respond in anger or try to argue her out of her mood. It is a difficult relationship and I believe I handled the situation well.
I may continue to blog weekly on three accomplishments of the week or month

Excellent! For me, it is always helpful to put accomplishments in "black-and-white". That way they are real. Does that make sense? Sometimes I have to see it written out to believe I did it!

Great job handling a difficult situation with your daughter. **SIGH** It is not easy, but when someone is in a mood, you're not going to be able to reason with them and change their mind. Frustrating?? YES11 But you handled it well.

HUGS!

Family members tend to be the most challenging. Glad you handled it well. It's never helpful to add fuel to the fire raging in another.

planning for the weekend

Saturday, November 02, 2013

This Sunday I am driving about 100 miles to oldest daughters home to visit . It is a challenge for a number of reasons. My joints do not tolerate sitting in car more than 30 minutes. The place is out in the country and there are not may stopping places. Dear daughter is in financial difficulty and currently has a tiny dorm size refrigerator for her and 11 year old daughter. This is the surface. SO my activity plan is to stop each time I find a safe stop spot and walk . After a fall 3 weeks ago my left knee and hip are still quite sore. So this will be necessary.

Meal plan is to write down a lunch and dinner from SP meal tracker Sunday bean nachos. Buy some canned products which I do not usually use which will model/ teach daughter with high blood pressure how to rinse and use to reduce sodium content. Please pray for me friends . This daughter and I have a hard time listening to each other I am apprehensive but it is a necessary visit to walk further on a healing path for our relationship.

I hope you were able to execute your plan as you wished and have moved forward in your relationship with your daughter. The key to really listening is to quiet all the other thoughts in your head while the other person is speaking and just be fully present for them, regardless of what they are saying.

Try to have patience with your daughter...she could be feeling embarassed (?) and resist help for this motive. Try to instruct her gently. You have the right idea stopping frequently. Maybe you can plan a lunch stop and a snack stop to give yourself more time to stretch. It will take longer but you might arrive more rested. Good luck!

scary goals

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

At age 64 blogging about 1,5 and 10 year goals is a little scary in 10 years at 74 I can not imagine my life. Who will be in it? Who is living? Am I ? So at this point I will stick to a 1 year goal. I want to be able to hike a beginner trail for 3 miles next summer. Also have more flexibility and stamina for gardening and playing with the granddaughters. Ok I will try 5 and 10 just generally. At 5 years out age 69 I want to be stronger than I am today and weigh less. At 10 years 74 years of age I want to be as vigorous as my mom was at that age. Ok I did it . It was not as scary as I thought.

I hear what you are saying. At 66 I though making long term goals (5-10 years from now) would be scary too, but like you I came up with a couple. They are certainly not like the younger folk, but we all need goals to look forward to. Besides our ages are just another number, and most of us don't look (or act) our age....LOL
Have a great day and keep moving forward toward those goals.

good job! It IS sometimes difficult to look too far ahead into the future. But you know what . . . the nice thing about goals is they're not written in stone, so you can change them up as you need! HUGS and smiles.
