Time Out for Now

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

I need to take a time out from Spark and did not want to simply disappear although I feel as if I have already disappeared from participation. Thank you to new friends and especially old friends, you know who you are. I am not closing my account and hope to come back. For now I am exiting all teams, preferences, trackers and postings.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. Perhaps I'll see you on another go around. Demand the best for yourself, you are worth it.

I don't know the reason for the departure but I sure do understand how it can become necessary.

Hope all is well and know that I and all the rest of your friends will be here when you decide to come back to us!

Stay safe and stay healthy!!

Your friend,
Vandal

Staycation

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Everyone likes to leave home for vacation. I live right smack in the midst of Michigan vacation land. This was a three day staycation for me.

Me, (I'm on the far left) my mother, 2 daughters and 2 sisters in a wine tasting setting. We had such a great time. This is the inside, next photo is outside. As you can see it is be-au-ti-ful countryside. (me in the middle with brown pants)

We had a great time talking and catching up. This morning after toast, yogurt and fruit for breakfast sisters and I walked into town. Fitbit said our little hike was 4.5 miles. We went to the local beach and walked on the sand, climbed a hill or two. This is not my photo, but one of the beach we were at

After walking back to the inn we drove to a few new places. We explored a couple more beaches, a Bohemian church built in the 1800s. The Boehmian settlers were iron workers and the grave markers in the cemetery were VERY unusual In the middle of the photo, if you look closely, you will notice a simple cross made of 2 pipes. This is one of my favorite stained glass windows in the church. Back then they were had made and the craftsmanship is simply amazing. Nothing less than amazing. The serpent wrapped around the apple tree. Eve just didn't stand a chance did she? Lunch was at a sweet little country tavern. I had to have the burger special; mushrooms with Asiago cheese so to control the damage we cut it in half and shared that way. It was more than satisfying. Here is a link to another wonderful tasting we visited. This time I had them pour lightly (which is one simple taste). Black Star Farms is a B&B, they produce award winning wines and cheese. www.blackstarfarms.com/winery/tastin

We enjoyed an art gallery today too. Tomorrow we visit an art quilt show as my cousin has an entry or two. Then everyone departs, I have a few days of work, then my routine returns. I am thankful for the beautiful weather, family, good health, good times, sunshine and the opportunity to refresh relationships.

The pictures are beautiful, and so are YOU and your extended female clan! How wonderful to be able to spend this time together. You've given me a lot to consider regarding my mother, sister, and I...Chicago would be good, and close, but T.C. certainly would be wonderful too. I haven't been up to your neck of the woods in 30 years.

Now I'm off to check out your link! Thanks for posting.

Glad you had a great staycation - I, myself, can't *stand* staycations........but then again, I'm from probably the most flippin' BORING part of the country, so my view is clearly biased!

Still more family time

Monday, July 22, 2013

Heading out early for my walk. Two sisters and mom coming to town and we are heading for a B&B, wine tasting, walking and talking, camp fire on the beach and what ever else comes my way. So little time for SP right now. Family and those ties are my priority for the next couple of days. Mom is 80 and sisters live far away. My daughters are meeting us for lunch before we travel to B&B.

Yesterday I spent most of the day finishing up a cell phone purse for my sister. She is an avid walker and asked for a small across the body little purse to hold cell phone, license, house key, $. It took longer than I thought as much of it was hand sewn. It was too small to sew all places on my machine. I quilted it and it is quite cute.

I'll keep my food choices in check and get lots of walking in. Have a good week everyone.

My sister has been here with me for the past week, she is going home today, and I have enjoyed her so much, I won't see her again until October, and she is my only sister I have left living (also one brother) but family time is so much fun and important, We have really run while she has been here and got away for a few days, it has all been real good, and Sparks has been the last thing on my mind, although I have exercised (walked mostly) and eaten quite well.

Family Day and Heat Relief

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Family day and I mean that literally, I attended a family reunion today. 200 miles and nine hours later I am bushed!! But it was great fun with much reconnecting and photo ops. We had family name tags stating, "I belong to ____" which was a great help trying to figure out if you knew the face or not. (We have a large family) As you can imagine, the food was plentiful but it was not too hard to make healthy choices. My mother was one of 14 children, only three are still living. We felt a family reunion was a must at this time and the three of them enjoyed themselves in the greatest way.

Wonderful news is that a cold front came through last night and today was in the 70's all day. I was so excited with the coolness that I even managed to get in my 2 dog walks in spite of the travel and absence from home. Dogs are happy, mama's happy. I'm skipping my team entries for tonight and make it up tomorrow. I have Sunday as a catch up day then three days of visiting family. I have a plan so will keep up with my exercise. I hope the rest of you have relief from the heat too.

I love family reunions and wish we had more. We will have one on Mom's side in August. At first it was too hard to go when Mom died, but we are all planning on being there this time. Glad you had a good time with them all and were able to stick to your plan.
We have also had some rain and cooler weather. Not enough for the trees yet.

Wow, temps in the 70's for the family reunion? How wonderful was that! Will you be visiting family or will they be visiting you? I always prefer them coming to me, that way more control over the food. Not that anyone from Michigan or Massachusetts comes by very often!!! Great to hear from you.

fitbit tracking v spark tracking

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

I still have not decided which route to take. I like that my fitness can sync with spark, that work just fine. The past couple of days I have been entering my food into Spark and then sending it ti fitbit. (they now have an icon to do that) The first day I learned the hard way that you have to wait until the end of the day, don't send it after every meal entry as each time you "send", the entire day's meal entries go. So, the smarter me, on the second day waited until the end of the day to send from Spark to fitbit. Alas! Disappointment again as it doubles all the entries so you have to delete, delete, delete.

I prefer seeing the immediate equation that fitbit shows me and their entry is faster than Spark. I think I will stick with fitbit meal entry and just go with it. I am definitely not going to do both.

If anyone out there in Spark can clue me if I am missing something or making an error in the process I would be grateful.

I was surprised at how many steps I got in today as I was not able to walk the dogs. The temperature is in the 90s with high humidity, feels like 100+. The dogs are too stressed to take me walking and I am taking my cue from them. We are looking forward to rain and cooler days soon.

Keep believing in yourself. You are worth every minute of effort. Here is an ice water toast to you emoticon

WTG on all those steps!!! I'm just waiting for the heat wave to break. We could see 100 degrees in Connecticut this afternoon. Yikes... too bad this heat isn't melting away the fat.

I do not have a fitbit, so I cannot offer any suggestions. Hope this nationwide heat breaks soon. Stay cool!

Wow, I was so surprised to hear it was 105 in Detroit the other day! It's just hotter than Hades all over!

My Fitbit automatically "sends" my nutrition from Spark to the Fitbit page. You don't need to manually enter there or sync your Fitbit for that to happen. But like I said, if you make a mistake on your Spark tracker, then you must go to the Fitbit website and delete the original entry -- it won't correct.

I personally found the Fitbit food tracker more cumbersome than Spark, so that's why I'm continuing to use that. I have both Spark and the Fitbit webpages set up as "tabs" in my browser so they are both always open. It makes it easy to switch back and forth from one to another, but I do use Spark 95% of the time.

Have a great day, and maybe try doing a Spark video inside to avoid the heat! It's murder here, too.

I use my fitbit to track steps. It motivates me to keep moving. I prefer to track my food here on SP, just works better for me. Then I synch my steps from fitbit to here! Really like the fitbit! Good luck and do what works for YOU! Ellen
