Temperature-vs- Heat Index

Friday, June 21, 2013

Yesterday I had already decided I was NOT going to go for a bike ride/walk, as I had blisters on both feet however, a trip to the mailbox made me change my mind, as it was absolutely gorgeous out! So, I put band aids on my blisters, laced up my sneakers and headed out on foot.... leaving my bike in the garage! I walked to our nearby park.... it was hot...but there was a slight breeze so not to bad... I used runkeeper.com on my cell phone to keep track of my time and distance... fastest mile was a right around 12 minutes... not too bad... after five miles, I headed home... on the way home my hands/arms starting feeling really tight... as I massaged my heads I realized my fingers and hands were really swollen... they hadn't been when I started out.... anyway... I finished my walk... extremely hot and sweaty..... but did get 5.98 miles in. After returning home, I heard on the radio that while the temp was only 81 degrees the heat index was 95! (Guess that explains the swelling and over heating I felt!!)
Hope everyone has a great day and weekend!

My hands swell in the heat too - and swinging them when I walk (plus ANY salt I have consumed) compounds the problem. If I remember, I will raise my arms above my head for some of the walk and then run cold water over my hands after the walk. It feels refreshing and calms the swelling.
Good job on getting your walk in! emoticon

Just checked the temperature here and it shows 90 degrees but heat index 104. Too hot for me. Amazing you were able to do almost 6 miles. emoticon

Joyce Meyer...PEACE!!!

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I've said this before but I really, really enjoy listening to her sermons/lessons! Today she's talking about PEACE.... peace within us....our reaction to circumstances and how we allow those circumstances to ROB us of our PEACE.... Hits home with me.... as I allow myself to get stressed over things that really, truly don't matter in the end! So... today I am going to focus on PEACE!!!!!! (I shall NOT allow little things (or big things) to ROB me of the PEACE that GOD gave to me!!!!)

Have a wonderful day! Peace be with you and yours!!!

Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen have helped direct me in times of need in many ways, too. They are great!

By the way, I've read on SparkPeople, that if you're anxious, you're thinking about your future, if you're sad - you're thinking about your past, but if you're at PEACE, you are in the present. Let's enjoy the little things in life God has to offer us...like flowers and birds and the beautiful sky. I hope you have a very peaceful day.

Fitbit-vs- Workout

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Yesterday morning, I headed out for a bike ride and walk.... it was a beautiful morning.... and I quickly discovered what happens when I let myself go two weeks (more or less a day or two) without a REAL workout.... especially when it came to riding my bike!!! I DID push on and managed to get a little over three miles on my bike, not wonderful, but okay... I also walked a little over five miles.... all in all a decent workout!!! (I've been getting my steps in with Fitbit, but my workout just reminds me that NOT everything is TRULY exercise!)) I'm getting ready to lace up my shoes and head out for another bike ride/walk combo.....

Have a great day!!!!

emoticon Sounds like you are right on track! I envy your biking - I don't own one and even if I did, I would have to drive it somewhere to ride emoticon - kinda defeats the purpose...huh?
How do you like your fitbit? which one did you get? I love mine and have the clip on version (it fits inside a holder) but I would love the bracelet one.
Enjoy your day!

Sounds like you did a very worthwhile workout. Don't overdue in the beginning or you will want to give up. Slow and steady! You are doing a great job!!!!

Tuesday...

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

I just heard on the morning news that Tuesday is the most depressing day of the week! How interesting, I would've thought Monday... anyway... today is a new day and a chance for each of us to do and be the best we can be no matter what that is!!! I'm going to start my day with a bike ride/walk combination... our storms yesterday lowered the humidity and temperatures! YEAH! Also plan on going back to summer school and helping out our HS teacher and students! (I kind of like NOT being in charge... just assisting students/teachers and going my way...) In years past I was paid to teach summer school and did so for many years, but once we started having grandbabies my priorities changed... now I just volunteer... a positive for everyone involved!
Have a wonderful day!

In my opinion, it is not which weekday is the most depressing. It is in our own state of mind and reaction to it that makes us depressed.

People place far too much significance on the name of the day of the week. What day would you have it be if you didn't know what day it was? Act like it's that day! To people who have Mondays and Tuesdays off, Wednesday is Monday and Thursday is Tuesday and Friday in hump-day. What's in a name, would not a rose by any other name smell so sweet? (I didn't make that uo, I heard it somewhere! LOL)

Make Today the Greatest Day of your life. emoticon

It's Monday and the start of new week with unlimited possibilities for each and everyone of us! How much we do or don't do is completely up to us.... for me I'm going to drop by our summer school and see if any of my fellow teachers need a little help.... then who knows!
