Iron Levels

Friday, September 14, 2012

Today we had a blood drive at school, when they first checked my iron it was 10.9, (I tried to give about three weeks ago and my iron was barely too low at 12.3 and I've really been working on getting more iron in.) I was told to rub my other hand on up and down the side of my jeans repeatedly and did so for 3-4 minutes... guess what my iron rose to 13.9!!! I was so happy, as being able to donate blood is one of those things that I take very seriously!!! So just for today I am hero!

Have a great week-end!

I always liked to give blood - not only because it is really needed but because I felt better physically after I gave. I have my 3 gallon donation pin. The last time I gave for a friend and got dizzy so I gave it up. I'm 74 now and tell them "No". I'm proud that you got healthy enough to give! emoticon

Thanks for the reminder to have my iron levels checked. We have the opposite problem in my family though - we tend to have high iron levels, which can be dangerous if left unchecked.

Have you tried cooking in cast iron pans? I've been cooking my eggs in a cast iron skillet because the cooking process is supposed to add it into the food. -- Do you eat red meat? That is another dietary source of iron.

Glad you were able to do what you set out to do.

I go to the Red Cross and donate blood too. It is amazing how when one arm isn't high enough to give blood, but then they take the other arm and it is high enough. I need to go and donate blood again, but afraid my iron will be low. I really need to take iron pills but haven't done it for awhile. Have a great weekend. emoticon

Beautiful Days...

Thursday, September 13, 2012

The last few days have been absolutely beautiful! I have enjoyed being able to be outside to enjoy nature and God's handiwork! We are going camping this week-end where I hope to really, really, get a chance to enjoy the beauty all around with Layton, one of our five year old grandsons, who loves camping!

Limits...

"Know your limits, but never stop trying to exceed them."-Anonymous

This quote is proving to be true for me, as I've always believed I'm NOT a runner... even when I was younger... I wasn't a runner... however in the last few weeks, I've actually attempted to add a little running (perhaps some would call it a slow a jog) to my walking routines... and I'm still ALIVE... my knees can and do hold up... Amazing what the body can do when we stop our minds from saying we can't!!!

Have an awesome day!!!

I couldn't agree more! I've been working on my 'jogging/running' this summer. When folks are asking how I'm losing weight and I tell them I've been jogging, most reply with 'ugh...I can't do that. It's bad for your knees. I'm not a runner." and so on and so on. Well you know what - this chickie is doing it! If I can do it, anyone can! It's what we BELIEVE we can do! Anyone can make excuses, but those who push them aside and overcome them is what separates the 'can dos' from the 'can't dos'.

Keep going - you 'can do-er'!

Veteran's Cemetery

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Our little community is blessed with a beautiful Veteran's Cemetery, it is one of my favorite places to walk/run and today was not exceptiong... It just touches my heart to see all the American flags waving in the wind, the beautiful reflecting pool and fountain, with all the headstones of the many, many who have given their lives for MY freedom!!! What a wonderful privilege it is to be able to have this beautiful place right here in our own community!!!

Helping others quote...

Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us everyday.- Sally Koch
It is important to reach out to others... continuously..

I think this matches the famous "random acts of kindness" movement. We simply need to do our best to treat others like we want to be treated--hmm that golden rule came a long time ago from Jesus of Nazareth as He tried to teach people what was acceptable behavior. It is interesting that there is still a need to teach this to others. I hope that we, the human race, gets it all figured out soon.

Take care,
Sylvia

It is easy to do offer a smile to some-one you pass on the street, help a person in a wheel chair who can't reach a shelf in the grocery store or open a door or carry a
a bag for the elderly. The list is endless best of all it doesn't cost anything but a
moment of your time. Let's do it.!!
