The Color Run

I found out today that The Color Run is (hopefully!) coming to MY town!

Now, I've never done a 5k, though I have hiked that far on numerous occasions. When you think about it, 3 miles isn't really that far.

Except, I don't want to walk this sucker. I want to jog. And at the very least some combination of the two.

So I made my way to SP's 5k training plans, and I chose the walk/jog option and just a little while ago, I attempted day 1 to see where I stand.

Walk 4 min. Jog 1min x5.

I managed to do it twice, and finished out the 25 minutes with just walking. Clearly I have a long way to go. And just over 2 months to do it. Probably not enough time, but certainly enough to make some progress, which is just fine by me.

I haven't been truly active since my car accident in 2011. It's time to get this ol' body rust free and running smooth!

    There were two in October! Color Run and another one that's basically the same thing but a different name. They were one week apart.

    The good news is, these are NOT competitive events. They're about fun; almost no one runs the whole thing... the point is to get messy! Can't do that while you're setting a PR. :)

5% Challenge - This will be the time that sticks

This will be my fourth time participating in the 5% Challenge. And this will be my first time seeing it through to the end.

My plan:

I will be following the #fitfood and #skinnyjeans spark challenges for my nutrition and exercise guidelines and inspiration.

Minimum of 3 days of exercise.

Minimum of 6 glasses of water each day.

Stay within my ranges.

My main goal will be to complete the challenge, losing 5% will be an added bonus. Commitment first, results second.

Stoutness Exercises

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was, and still is, my all-time favorite kids movie.

And my favorite part is when Pooh does his stoutness exercises. And while being "short and fat" may not be the healthiest, Pooh's attitude certainly is.

There is too much negative self-talk going on our brains, and Pooh loves himself just as he is. Which is why I love this guy so much.

Recipe: Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

I've been meaning to try a green smoothie for some time now. But for whatever reason, I didn't get around to it until today.

And rather than hunt up a recipe, I just started playing around with ingredients I had on hand, and this is what I came up with.




It's not quite as green as I expected it would be, though that will come with adjusting the ingredients. And though this had a whole, packed, cup of baby spinach in it, I could only taste the fruit. And I love that it's daring me to make it more green! And I should note that as I'm typing this, almost 2 hours later, I still feel full.



Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 cup Baby Spinach, packed
1/2 cup Strawberries
1 6oz container Light Strawberry Banana Yogurt
1/4 cup 1% Milk
Sweetener, to taste

Directions:
Add all ingredients to blender. Blend until smooth.




Notes:
I worked with what I had on hand and the nutrition facts are based on that. All of the ingredients can be swapped for those of your choice - spinach for another green, yogurt for a frozen banana, etc. Milk can also be swapped for milk of your choosing (almond, soy, skim, etc).

Nutrition Facts (makes 1 serving):
Calories - 147
Carbs - 26
Fat - 1
Protein - 9
Sodium - 138
Sugar - 17

    I made a very similar one...just used plain yogurt in mine and added some flaxseed. Loved it! emoticon

    I LOVE green smoothies. My favorite is to get powdered greens, whatever frozen fruit, and banana if we have one ~ They are delicious!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I gave up on most dairy about a year ago, which seems odd to say, so I think your recipe sounds good too. My experience the more you drink them the more you like them!!! Enjoy.
