A funny thing happened...

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Brad and I went grocery shopping this morning, and I think we missed the Super Bowl traffic. Phew! It's so funny how much advertising is out there for food for "The Big Game." Huge displays of Doritos, Ruffles, dip, pre-packaged food... holy moly.
But that's not the funny thing. Usually when we go food shopping, I get in the mood for some kind of sweet, like a cupcake or ice cream. But today, all I wanted was a pear. Huh. Brad even said to me "Don't you want a sweet?" And I didn't. And I'm glad - last week I was going crazy for carbs. AAAHHH

Tonight's dinner is veal, potatoes, roasted garlic and shallots for dinner. We're going to a Super Bowl party later, and that will be where we have dessert.

Clothes are ready for tomorrow morning's spin class and then for school, and lunch is just about ready. I have to throw together a quick soup...

Off to read my new magazine - I got Muscle and Fitness Hers today for a little dose of inspiration. From what I peeked at in the store, i think it's just what I was looking for!

Awesome job!!! I made homemade chicken noodle soup last night for dinner (my first time) and I really enjoyed it - both making it AND eating it! lol.

Have a great day!!

Hehe, I wrote a blog with the same title the other day!! I am getting old and can no longer handle going out on a school night - watched the Superbowl from bed and actually started falling asleep before it was over!

I avoided the grocery store today because I didn't really want to play NASCAR shopping cart derby. Figured it would be a zoo. I'll be firing up the chili pot here in a bit. Enjoy your party.

I went to the grocery store today and while I DID get stuck in the Superbowl madness, it was entertaining. I actually caught multiple people scrunching their noses at my cart - full of produce - as they walked past with their's overflowing with chips, dip, etc. Too funny.

I am so thankful for the days when all I want is a piece of fruit - lately it has been cravings for sweet bread type treats - yikes. Way to go and enjoy your party tonight.

I found your craving! Stopped at Starbucks and HAD TO HAVE the strawberry rhubarb turnover that was calling to me from behind the glass. You can have it back now emoticon The craving, that is... the turnover is history.
ETA, I also bought "Eat, Pray, Love" (on sale) and a Women's Health.
Oh, and because I just remembered.. are you still moving to Canada?

Just Saturday

Today's thoughts.

- My cravings for carbs are lessening. This is a good thing.
- I have recommitted to eating lots of fruit. It's weird - fruit is so yummy that it's in my head that it must be bad for me. It's obviously better for me than a bag of chips.
- Gathering inspirational quotes and reading inspirational articles has been good for me lately. I've started re-reading the book Flip the Switch by Jim Karas. I love it because it's similar to Spark - it doesn't advocate cutting anything out, rather deciding whether a brownie or a smaller waist is more important to you.
- I took a rest day today. Part of it was because this morning it was freezing rain outside and I couldn't make it to Body Pump, and part of it was because I can still feel Body Pump from Thursday. I can tell I will have to do lots more stretching!

Hm... that's it. I just had a little pizza for dinner (the last of the homemade crust), a glass of wine, and I'm ready to hit the couch and do a little reading. I'm hoping Brad makes it home a little early tonight... he said it was slow at the restaurant tonight, partly because of the weather. My water bottle is full!

Sometimes I feel like my days can be summed up with "Words of Wisdom." Little tidbits of knowledge I've gathered from reading Spark articles, motivational pages...

"You will most likely regret *not* doing it, but you will almost never regret it if you do." I thought about this one at 5:00 this morning when all I wanted to do was stay in bed. My nice cozy comfy bed. And so I got up.

"Once you put on your gym clothes, your attitude will change." I pulled back my hair, got my spinning gear on, and I thought "huh, I guess I *am* more ready to go now."

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." I have always been a breakfast eater, but I still felt more awake when I got my coffee and apple with PB. After spin I'll have an English muffin and maybe an egg.

And I'm sure the rest of the day will be filled with sayings as well... I found a good one last night. I've been struggling with saying "no" to food. Yesterday, I had a pack of peanut M&Ms after lunch. It wasn't that I was still hungry, I just wanted some chocolate. I was feeling weak. I have an app called "Motivator" - "Self-respect is the root of discipline: The sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself." - Abraham Joshua Heschel. I'm going to think of this one often today. And this one is true too. I almost always feel better about myself when I can say "no" to a temptation.

- Spin!
- water water water
- buy fresh fruit after school - there is no more in the house (we went through it like crazy this week), and I'd like to have it to snack on instead of rummaging around the house for something to eat.
- Straighten up the living room. ARGH it looks like a tornado went through the house. And that was with two days off which I guess I should have used for cleaning.

Have a Fantastic Friday!

Lucky! I was hoping for a 2 hour delay but they cancelled again. So my son and I are home again. I had school on Monday and I hope to get back on Friday. We have conferences coming up in a week so that ought to be interesting getting materials ready for that. We haven't been there to do anything. Enjoy your day.

I think it's going to be too cold here for ice tonight. What's the thing that's colder than ice...?
