I can't believe how much garbage I ate over the weekend. Before this weekend, I can't remember the last time I had a hot dog or a hamburger. But over the weekend, I had at least two of each. I think I ate chips every day since Friday. Ugh.

So this morning I got on the scale like I do every morning and, boy, was it not nice to me.

I've written about this pattern of mine before - I start to get complacent about watching what I eat. "I'm doing great, I can have more chips." "I'm not as big as that other girl, I can have another hot dog."

This is not a good thing.

Tonight is my first CSA pickup of the season, so it's a great time to start a new nutrition commitment. When I read books and articles about eating clean, I get totally excited about it and swear off processed foods. I'm all gung-ho about putting good food into my body. So maybe part of June's Nutrition Commitment is going to be daily readings about whole foods and clean eating. Starting today, with my first CSA pickup. And even if I read the same passages over and over again, it's ok by me.

Today's To-Dos

- water water water! The heat is making me do really well with water drinking.
- Some sort of cardio tonight. I have the itch to get back into swimming...
- Gather nutrition articles for June

    I'm with you--really! I had a surprise visit from my mom, so not only did I eat and drink all weekend, not healthy, but got in very little exercise beyond walking. The scale indeed was not kind. BUT we know why, right? That's the very first step in getting back on track!

    Water is on my to do list too. The heat is making me have crazy headaches. I am glad I did not make any cookout plans or I know I would have eaten way too much too.

It's ant-in-the-house-season here in the Poconos. They are all trying to escape the humidity (and the tourists?) and are making their way into my house. I am on Ant Patrol, running around with the hand-held vacuum, sucking them up left and right. I guess there aren't *that* many, but it seems every time I turn around, there's another ant.

Don't feel like putting together a blog, so here are some things. In no particular order.

- Spent Thursday night through Saturday afternoon with no electricity or water. It sucked.

- Went to a picnic today. Had a good time, except someone spilled sangria on my skirt. My *white* skirt. I did learn that a mixture of baking soda, dish detergent and hydrogen peroxide takes out red wine stains. (I didn't wash the skirt yet, keep your fingers crossed!)

Brad is home... hooray!!!

    Carrie----we had ants too...won the war on them yesterday!!!! Hubby sprayed outside and I have some spray for the far so good.....hope you win soon!!!

    Wow, you've got all the summer stuff going on at once over there! I'm with you on the ants. I finally discovered a spray that works and that I can live with - good luck!

Oh, and apparently there are about 1 million times more ants in the world than people and it's estimated by some that ants may account for up to 10% of the world's terrestrial animal biomass. So it's not really surprising that a few end up in the kitchen.

    Ants are unfortunately extremely hearty this year. Oh well. Have a wonderful memorial day. I have used a combo of dish detergent and peroxide on red wine stains and it really works - i used a toothbrush to work on the stain and it didn't vanish but with a little work it faded right away:) good luck:)

    About a month ago, I was just like you sucking the little critters up with the vacuum hose. Every time I turned around, there they were. We sprayed the trail they had made, from the backyard, up the handrail of the deck, along the decking, onto the house and ended up in the kitchen. They were gone quite quickly!

    We have ants too. I bought this ant stuff at Home Depot that you literally pour in a circle around your entire house. It worked quite well, but you also have to put ant traps down inside so you are killing the ones inside while preventing more from getting in.

To nap or not to nap?

I haven't taken a nap since Sunday. This is very strange for me... I LOVE to nap. And I'm a great napper. I can nap on the couch, in a chair, in the bed... at noon, at 3:00pm, at 7:30 pm...

What I've noticed is that my sleeps have been better. Even last night, after having a lot of good food and wine... I woke up this morning at 5:00. Five o'clock!!!! Holy moly. I already put in a load of laundry, packed my lunch, and got some Sparking done.

So I may continue this no-napping thing for a while.

emoticon Water drinking has been really good. The hot weather always brings out the best drinker in me.

emoticon Friday was a big hot mess of carb-y stuff at work... we had a parent breakfast. Too many baked goods, not enough fruit salad. Last night was Restaurant Week Awards night - I went with a girlfriend and had a GREAT time. Even though I ate a lot, I made sure I was only eating food I really liked. I didn't eat much of the ribs - they weren't that good. Brad makes WAY better ribs at home. And one of the desserts was very meh, so I didn't eat it all. (And leaving a dessert on a plate is just CRAZY for me.)
But there is good, of course. I have been eating fruit like it's going out of style. We loaded up on fruit at the store, and I have been making fruit salad since Sunday. Fruit is so delicious in salad form. I have to keep this in mind - it makes eating fruit a lot more fun.

emoticon I am on the next stage of my workout (The New Rules of Lifting...). It's *finally* stage two. I did my first workout on Monday - HOLY MOLY. Those squat/push press things are hard! But I am going to have an awesome rear end after all this. There are so many lunges and squats and dead lifts I can hardly even stand it.

emoticon (This is my emoticon for ME time.) My flight to New Orleans is booked - mom and I are going at the end of June. I am SO excited! And when school is out, one of the girls at school and I are going into NYC to celebrate the end of school. And then I'm going again with another friend. I LOVE the city.
Last night was a massage - I feel so wonderful. It hurt like hell, but I feel great today.

emoticon Exciting stuff!!! I recently went in to the jeweler to have my engagement ring cleaned, and she noticed that the band was getting a little oval-shaped. This is because my ring was too big. TOO BIG!!!! So she measured it all out and I had it re-sized from a 7 1/4 to a 6 1/2. AAAHHHH this is totally exciting. It fits like a dream and it looks so little (the band, not the diamond) now. Yay!

    Congrats on getting skinnier fingers! Your comment on my blog about the bikini on the donut was so funny I literally laughed out loud. Glad to know I'm not the only one who has trouble saying no to stuff in the teachers room. I love to nap too but only do it these days every once in a while on a weekend afternoon when there's time...during the week I don't have time to nap, and if I did I wouldn't fall asleep at night.

Brad called me earlier tonight about a special event tomorrow. It was recently Restaurant Week here, and tomorrow night is the awards night. Since he can't go, I got two VIP tickets.

Food samples from local restaurants, wine tasting, good company, hob-nobbing with local up and ups...

Summer's a-comin'!

Well, there's nothing like a summer party for a little inspiration. I thought I wanted pancakes for dinner. Well, I *knew* I wanted pancakes for dinner, but I also know that I just bought a cute new bikini and I don't know that pancakes for dinner would be the best bikini dinner. So I had some soup - chicken broth with rice and baby brussel sprouts. Chocolate pudding for dessert. Much better than pancakes. And on Memorial Day, my bikini body will thank me.

I tried on a bunch of clothes today - sometimes I like to go through my closet and assess what I have. Put new things together, try out some different combos... and I have some really great dresses that I want to keep looking great. Mindful eating and consistent exercise will help those dresses stay great-looking.

Today was my last day of Workout 1 in my book (The New Rules of Lifting...). It took me so long to get through it because of being sick so much over the winter. So the nice weather and end of school should help me be more consistent with my Workout 2. The book suggests a week of break, but I took so many breaks in the first workout, and I have momentum right now... I think I'll just get right into it on Monday morning. I am excited to do some new stuff... I saw lots of good changes in the first section - during this phase I plan to add more cardio and more consistency.

Look out summer!

So tonight I'm going to check out the new workouts and see what I need to do.

So much for the Rapture...

    I love that you are thinking about wearing your bikini to a party while you're choosing what to eat for dinner. If that doesn't make you want to eat something light, nothing will!

    I do "closet shopping" too. Go though my stuff and see what I have. Sometimes I honestly forget what's in the back corners, especially if I haven't worn it in a while :)

Phase 2 and 4 are good workouts - they're a little long, but if you only do ST and not cardio on those days, it's not so bad.

I should think about my bikini body - and stop at the 2 beers I have already had tonight. Thanks for the reminder!
