Sunday Night Football! Hooray!

Sunday, August 21, 2011

So my hair smells a little like Starbucks right now... I got this hair oil and I'm trying it out while I type this blog. I have an Ulta card and I spent so much in a certain period so I got some "free" hair oil. In 20 minutes I should have some luscious hair!

Going back to writing to-do lists has been one of the best things I've done in a while. I tried going without them for a while, and what ended up happening is that the dining room table was always spotless but the bathroom got neglected. I did everything on my list today.

- Make tomatillo salsa (we got some from the farm - yum!)
- Make enchilada sauce
- Make bread dough
- Bake carrot cake (we have farm carrots I needed to use up)
- Laundry
- Vacuum upstairs

I even planned my meals and I stuck to them!

Dinner with mom was nice last night. We didn't talk about the wedding or anything, but we seemed to be ok. It was really nice to visit. I got home super late last night, though - dinner took FOREVER - the restaurant is pretty new and the service was SOOOOOOO slow. And THEN, as I was getting ready to drive home, my brother called me. I said "if you are calling to tell me a light is out, hang up now." (The last three - yes, three - times we've left somewhere at the same time, he's called me to say that a light was out on my car.) Turns out that BOTH my rear lights were out, and there was no way I could make it home without them. It was so dark and not only would it be illegal, but seriously dangerous. So we went out to get new bulbs and put them in. Sigh.

But I woke up this morning and went for a swim. Go me! My shoulders told me when to stop, but I was super glad to have gotten 20 minutes in. I went grocery shopping, got home, and prepped the food I bought. So many times I'll buy things and because I don't prep them right away, they spoil. Ugh. So I got the strawberries hulled and cleaned, and I did everything else I needed to do.

You know what's really good? Talenti Double Chocolate Gelati. It was on sale this week - YUM.

The carrot cake is baking - it smells so good. And I licked the bowl, so I don't know if I really feel like eating a piece. Maybe Brad and I will try it together when he gets home from work.

Lately I just feel like everything is falling into place. The siding, finally talking to my mom again, getting back into my workout routine, using up our veggies and eating better... it must be the star chart I made up for August!

Have a wonderful evening - off to rinse my hair and watch some football!

Just don't confuse that hair oil for something to drink when it's time for carrot cake!

I don't think I've ever heard of someones hair smelling like Starbucks before... a fruit basket, maybe, but never a Starbucks. That made me LOL.
Crazy about your tail lights. I have one that glitches when I hit a bump. It's so bad, I had - should get again - a stash of replacement bulbs in the glove box. Just to be sure.
I *think* I might start making lists like you do. Preggo brain is starting to affect me in the most horrible of ways. I even ran out of spaghetti... I never, NEVER run out of spaghetti noodles.

Oh! Good job on the swim!!

Funk, be gone!

Saturday, August 20, 2011

It's kind of funny how when you start paying attention to your body through eating and working out you can start to tell the difference between "Man, I really don't want to do this, but I will anyway" and "You know what? I can NOT drag my rear off the couch for anything." Yesterday was the latter. SERIOUSLY the latter. I got home from school and was on the couch from 3:00 until 11:00, and then I went up to bed and slept until 8:00. Holy moly! The last thing on my mind when I went to bed was if I was going to make it to the gym today.

But you know what? I did make it to the gym today. And I had a great workout. My muscles were happily lifting, and my legs were happily running little sprint intervals at the end of my workout. It's just crazy to me that my body was in that much need of rest!

And I have a confession - I was kind of checking myself out at the gym. Ha! My tum was not NEARLY as roly-poly as it was last week, and I have a pretty nice arse. My shoulders are getting seriously nice, and I think I felt "the fat melting off" today. I thought of all you friends out there in Spark land, running faster and farther, lifting more, spotting more muscles, doing longer planks, and it seriously helped me push through and have some time well spent at the gym! hooray for you!

And THEN, I came home, took a shower and started to get ready to go. (I am actually going to my mom's tonight for dinner - it's the first time in almost two months that I've seen her; since she's been mad at me for the shotgun wedding.) My hair did exactly what I wanted it to, and my new makeup is seriously wonderful.

And! I got an e-mail today that my pants shipped! The ones I forgot that I ordered! Hip hip hooray! I should have them by the end of next week.

Water water water! Have a super day!

Reading that you made it to the gym made me smile! I'm really proud of you!

Heck yeah, check yourself out, you are strong, awesome, fit, beautiful!!!! It's pretty motivation to see YOURSELF in a positive, healthy light, to see that you are smaller, more tones, have a nice booty! I do it too, and am not ashamed. It makes me want to work even harder!

I love that you are in love with your body. It's great to have those kinds of thoughts, as opposed to the "I hate the way I look" thoughts. Way healthier mentally.

Have a great dinner tonight. Your mom still loves you :)

I think we ALL check ourselves out at the gym! :)

I also think that for those of us who do work out on a regular basis and have one of those days where we just can't get off the couch we can sit back with a smug grin on our face and realize we deserve that day off! That's a great feeling!

Hope you have a good dinner with your mom and things are better!

I never met a carb I didn't like

Friday, August 19, 2011

Today was a totally carb-filled day. From morning to night. I think I ate every kind of carb imaginable!

Scone - check
Potatoes - check
pasta - check
cereal - check
popcorn - check

What else is there? Sigh... This afternoon was a little bit of a bummer. I got home from school and Brad left me a note about our Canada application. We didn't get in.
:(

Totally sad. The e-mail said that Brad's experience wasn't enough to move there. I guess the silver lining is that now we *know* and can move on with other plans... we are going to talk about those other plans tonight when Brad gets home. It's a little bit of a relief, knowing for sure. But still a bummer. And on top of that? I had a killer headache all afternoon and I still have one. I spent all afternoon on the couch sleeping, and I'm ready to go back. I don't know if it's the huge drop in pressure (we got HUGE thunderstorms today), stress, or what...

BUT! I DO know that tomorrow is another day and I'm going to chalk up today as "One Of Those Days." Luckily, those days are getting fewer and fewer! Off to drink some water and get rid of this headache...

Friday Eve!!!

Thursday, August 18, 2011

I did it. I did an evening workout. Short TM run and then a stretch class. And you know, I had energy and drive to cook dinner after that. I made some chicken curry. GOOOOOOOOO energy from working out!

And it was a busy day. I spent most of my day at school working in my classroom - I LOVE to work in my classroom. I know it may sound a little weird, but I love getting ready for the first day of school. Labeled all my new books for my little reading corner, hung up the stuff on my ceiling, got my desk organized... AND I even took my lunch to school so I could stick to my plan! It felt really great to stick to my plan today.

Note to self - keep planning meals! And keep prepping stuff BEFORE it's time to make the meal. How stinkin' easy was it tonight to cook my chicken curry? Chicken was cooked, veggies were chopped, all I had to do was saute an onion and stick everything in the pot!

I'm going to try the early-to-bed thing tonight. No more midnight bed times, which I am kinda glad about. I mean, I love being awake when Brad gets home from work, but going to bed at midnight isn't going to cut it when school starts. In about a week! EEEEK!!!! I love it.

I love my man. He just called me from work to let me know he was thinking of me. Swoon.

Time to get some stuff ready for tomorrow... one of my girlfriends is coming to my classroom tomorrow to get some ideas. She was moved to elementary music from middle school music, and she wants to know what I use and check out some lesson plans. We're meeting for breakfast before we head over to the school... I'll get to indulge in some chai!

Time for this blog to end... the thunder is rumbling and I don't want to lose everything I've typed! Happy Friday Eve!

Wow...sounds like you're excited about school starting!

Meal planning makes the biggest difference, I agree!

I also have been going to bed at 12am...when school starts (I teach middle school) that is all going to change...

I am actually a morning person so I will be glad to start getting up early.

Happy to hear about all the excitement!!

bust bust bust bust... BANG

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but sometimes I read the Spark People articles and I think "blah blah blah yeah yeah yeah whatever. That nonsense doesn't work for me. I KNOW what works for me." And then I sit on my arse and don't do anything. But then something happens and I think "well, I *guess* I should try what the article says." And then you know what? Something wonderful happens. Like 99.9% of the time. Like tonight? I was SO lazy. I got home from my facial and I was in the car for SOOO long this afternoon and I was lying on the couch all sad because I didn't get to the gym... and I slept. In my workout clothes, because I KNEW that if I had them on I'd be more likely to get in a workout.

Well, after my nap, I thought I would just can the workout and whatever, but then NO NO NO NO NO I HAVE TO WORK OUT! I just sent a Goodie to ROGUE_1 because she inspired me to get off my rear and do a workout! So I did my workout at home. Yes, while watching Without a Trace, I did my strength training workout. Phew! I earned my sticker and I felt SO MUCH BETTER. And you know what those crazy articles say about having more energy after you work out? It's true. I cut up some veggies to get ready for tomorrow's dinner (chicken curry) and I cooked all the chicken thighs. Yahoo!

emoticon

So I ended today with a bang. The day was *not* so much a bang, but a bust. Long story short it involved a bag of sweet potato chips (well, *almost* the whole bag. I threw it out with a little over a serving left), a red wine headache, going too long in the car without a snack, and not enough water during the day. But I turned it around, got in my workout and my water, and I prepped some food for tomorrow. ShaZAM.

I think I may totally plan out tomorrow - like write a schedule and everything. I'm going to finish my peppermint tea now and do some planning...

oh, and BTW? If you have never gotten a facial, I highly suggest it. I got one done at my dermatologist's office today and it was HEAVEN.
