It's amazing how the little things can make a big difference. We have a beautiful back deck, but we don't spend much time out there. I think it's because it's kind of sparse out there - I haven't really spent the time or money to make it a nice place to be. But today I went out and bought some new lights for the deck. I only plugged in one strand, but WHOA what a difference! It looked SO nice out there tonight. I even had my dinner out there! I guess now is a good time to start thinking about getting stuff for the deck since it's all on sale!
Kind of bummer news today - I got a phone call that the hearing scheduled for tomorrow is rescheduled for next Tuesday. Which really stinks because now I have to take a personal day for it. Bleh. The second day of school and I have to take a personal day! And for nothing fun! I am racking my brain trying to think of a doctor I could go see that day so I could use a sick day instead... isn't looking promising. Oh well, I will get my stuff back so I think it's worth it to take that day. I want to talk to my principal and see if I can just leave for part of the day without a personal day, depending on what my schedule is. Sigh...
I got my bike out of the garage tonight for the first time this summer (!). I drove up to the local state park and rode around the loop a few times. I didn't go for too long, but I worked up a sweat and got in some good hills. I could just kick myself for not having done that earlier! I wrote in my journal tonight how I kind of frittered away the whole summer being sad and bummed out when I could have been doing tons more other stuff. Anyway. I think one of my upcoming goals is going to have something to do with taking advantage of where I live - it's a beautiful area, and people come up here on vacation all the time. There's no reason I shouldn't be out enjoying this!
In fact, today I saw a baby deer just lying in the grass by the road, its mom was across the street. And on my way to the gym, there are two baby deer I always see running around with their mom. I saw a buck in a driveway on my way to the gym over the weekend, and tonight while I was on my deck I saw an owl fly through the trees! I happened to look over when it was flying - I saw one fly once before and it's AMAZING how quiet they are.
I guess it didn't hurt that today's weather was BEAUTIFUL! The humidity was non-existent and it was in the mid-seventies. I love it! My hair didn't get all frizzy and I didn't feel like a big nasty sweat ball all day. Hooray!
Tomorrow my dad is coming up to visit. I haven't seen him in a while, so it will be a nice day. Brad is off of work, too - extra nice!
- drank all my water
- ran some errands
- enjoyed my deck!
- made some amazing buffalo meat enchiladas with farm fresh sauce!
- looked at some old pictures from my mom - holy MOLY.

So my hair smells a little like Starbucks right now... I got this hair oil and I'm trying it out while I type this blog. I have an Ulta card and I spent so much in a certain period so I got some "free" hair oil. In 20 minutes I should have some luscious hair!
Going back to writing to-do lists has been one of the best things I've done in a while. I tried going without them for a while, and what ended up happening is that the dining room table was always spotless but the bathroom got neglected. I did everything on my list today.
- Make tomatillo salsa (we got some from the farm - yum!)
- Make enchilada sauce
- Make bread dough
- Bake carrot cake (we have farm carrots I needed to use up)
- Vacuum upstairs
I even planned my meals and I stuck to them!
Dinner with mom was nice last night. We didn't talk about the wedding or anything, but we seemed to be ok. It was really nice to visit. I got home super late last night, though - dinner took FOREVER - the restaurant is pretty new and the service was SOOOOOOO slow. And THEN, as I was getting ready to drive home, my brother called me. I said "if you are calling to tell me a light is out, hang up now." (The last three - yes, three - times we've left somewhere at the same time, he's called me to say that a light was out on my car.) Turns out that BOTH my rear lights were out, and there was no way I could make it home without them. It was so dark and not only would it be illegal, but seriously dangerous. So we went out to get new bulbs and put them in. Sigh.
But I woke up this morning and went for a swim. Go me! My shoulders told me when to stop, but I was super glad to have gotten 20 minutes in. I went grocery shopping, got home, and prepped the food I bought. So many times I'll buy things and because I don't prep them right away, they spoil. Ugh. So I got the strawberries hulled and cleaned, and I did everything else I needed to do.
You know what's really good? Talenti Double Chocolate Gelati. It was on sale this week - YUM.
The carrot cake is baking - it smells so good. And I licked the bowl, so I don't know if I really feel like eating a piece. Maybe Brad and I will try it together when he gets home from work.
Lately I just feel like everything is falling into place. The siding, finally talking to my mom again, getting back into my workout routine, using up our veggies and eating better... it must be the star chart I made up for August!
Have a wonderful evening - off to rinse my hair and watch some football!

It's kind of funny how when you start paying attention to your body through eating and working out you can start to tell the difference between "Man, I really don't want to do this, but I will anyway" and "You know what? I can NOT drag my rear off the couch for anything." Yesterday was the latter. SERIOUSLY the latter. I got home from school and was on the couch from 3:00 until 11:00, and then I went up to bed and slept until 8:00. Holy moly! The last thing on my mind when I went to bed was if I was going to make it to the gym today.
But you know what? I did make it to the gym today. And I had a great workout. My muscles were happily lifting, and my legs were happily running little sprint intervals at the end of my workout. It's just crazy to me that my body was in that much need of rest!
And I have a confession - I was kind of checking myself out at the gym. Ha! My tum was not NEARLY as roly-poly as it was last week, and I have a pretty nice arse. My shoulders are getting seriously nice, and I think I felt "the fat melting off" today. I thought of all you friends out there in Spark land, running faster and farther, lifting more, spotting more muscles, doing longer planks, and it seriously helped me push through and have some time well spent at the gym! hooray for you!
And THEN, I came home, took a shower and started to get ready to go. (I am actually going to my mom's tonight for dinner - it's the first time in almost two months that I've seen her; since she's been mad at me for the shotgun wedding.) My hair did exactly what I wanted it to, and my new makeup is seriously wonderful.
And! I got an e-mail today that my pants shipped! The ones I forgot that I ordered! Hip hip hooray! I should have them by the end of next week.
Water water water! Have a super day!

I did it. I did an evening workout. Short TM run and then a stretch class. And you know, I had energy and drive to cook dinner after that. I made some chicken curry. GOOOOOOOOO energy from working out!
And it was a busy day. I spent most of my day at school working in my classroom - I LOVE to work in my classroom. I know it may sound a little weird, but I love getting ready for the first day of school. Labeled all my new books for my little reading corner, hung up the stuff on my ceiling, got my desk organized... AND I even took my lunch to school so I could stick to my plan! It felt really great to stick to my plan today.
Note to self - keep planning meals! And keep prepping stuff BEFORE it's time to make the meal. How stinkin' easy was it tonight to cook my chicken curry? Chicken was cooked, veggies were chopped, all I had to do was saute an onion and stick everything in the pot!
I'm going to try the early-to-bed thing tonight. No more midnight bed times, which I am kinda glad about. I mean, I love being awake when Brad gets home from work, but going to bed at midnight isn't going to cut it when school starts. In about a week! EEEEK!!!! I love it.
I love my man. He just called me from work to let me know he was thinking of me. Swoon.
Time to get some stuff ready for tomorrow... one of my girlfriends is coming to my classroom tomorrow to get some ideas. She was moved to elementary music from middle school music, and she wants to know what I use and check out some lesson plans. We're meeting for breakfast before we head over to the school... I'll get to indulge in some chai!
Time for this blog to end... the thunder is rumbling and I don't want to lose everything I've typed! Happy Friday Eve!
