A funny thing happened yesterday. I ate WAY too many Hershey Kisses and brownie and cookies, and today I feel like a gigantic lump. Usually the lump feeling comes after a few holiday days of eating like that, but this year it was only one day. One of my kindergarten kiddos gave me a mug full of Hershey Kisses yesterday (a big mug). Guess how many were left when I brought it home. About four. Ugh. I could FEEL myself growing as I ate them. But did I stop? Of course not. URGH

But sometimes feeling like that is a small blessing. It reminds us of why we are choosing to fill our bodies with healthiness. Why we choose to wake up at the crack of dawn to go to the gym. Why we put on layer after layer to go out and run in the cold air. We choose those things because they make us FEEL good. Never mind the scale at that point. I just *felt* awful. So as much as I would have loved to make an excuse this morning to not go to the gym, I couldn't come up with a single good one. In fact, I am looking forward to going to the gym - it's a great way to start the day. And I don't want to ruin my hard work with too many sweets!

I recently read a book in which there was a suggestion on how to stick with a workout plan. The suggestion (among other ones) was "go to the gym every Monday." And I totally understand this now! I make an excuse (ugh) about why I "couldn't" go yesterday, and it was not a good start to the week. I would have surely been a better eater yesterday had I gone. But I can't go back now. All I can do is go forward from today!

Look out... here comes the gun show!

- drink water water water
- be positive!
- kick my own butt at the gym
- be selective about sweets (if any!)

    What a great tip--go to the gym every Monday. I love poppin into SparkPeople to see what little nuggets of wisdom can be picked up.

We have lots of cookies and candy and cakes all around the coffee pot. I try to swoop in early to get my coffee before the plastic wrap is removed and then I walk the long way around to cross the office so I don't have to go past it again. I avoid the treats & get in some extra steps.

Sleep, how I love thee.

If you've read some of my past blogs, you know that I find sleep glorious. I can't help it. Sleep is just wonderful! Last night I bucked up and told Brad that I needed to get to sleep early. Like 9:30 early. (For the last week or two, my bedtime has been quite a bit later, and my body finally called me out on it.) This morning's wake-up was amazing! I actually woke up at 4:30, not because something was wrong, but because I slept so well! I stretched and rolled around until my alarm went off at 5:00, and I jumped out of bed.

My run this morning was awesome - my legs felt great, and my heart was pump-pump-pumping away! All because of wonderful sleep!

I didn't think I was going to the gym today, I planned it to be a rest day, but I felt so darn good that I just HAD to get up! And I'm glad I did. Getting in a workout first thing helps me to make good choices all day. Yahoo!

- drink water drink water drink water drink water
- NO DONUT HOLES (yesterday was not so good)
- Schedule an oil change
- Stop for gifts on the way home from school (I am going to a baby shower tomorrow night)
- Be happy it's Fridayyyyyyyyyyyy!

I am totally, utterly, exhausted this morning. I went to bed early, got eight hours of sleep, and STILL have a heck of a time getting up. I need Christmas break.

The house is a mess - I can't get it under control! All I want to do when I come home is sit on the couch. Sigh...

Enough of that.

I think I'm going to take today and tomorrow off from the gym. I didn't go yesterday, either, but I need some rest. My body is screaming out for it - it's about time I listen!

drink tons of water!!!
Limit carbs for the rest of the day - I already had over half my day's amount because I couldn't say NO to the second bowl of cereal.
Do some food writing
Clean up a room

Tahini Cookies recipe

MMMM The tahini cookies are so good!

from The Book of New Israeli Food by Janna Gur

250 g (9oz) butter, softened
200 g (1 cup) sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon salt
180 ml (3/4 cup) raw tahini
450 g (3 cups + 2 tablespoons) flour
10 g (2 teaspoons) baking powder
For dusting:
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon

1. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy and creamy (4-5 minutes)
2. Lower speed and add vanilla, cinnamon, salt, orange zest and tahini. Beat to a smooth consistency. Add flour and baking powder and process to a smooth and malleable dough. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.
3. Preheat oven to 180 C (350F)
4. Mix confectioners' sugar and cinnamon in small bowl
5. Pinch small pieces off the dough and roll balls the size of small olives. Roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
6. Space cookies on lined tray. Bake for 15 minutes. The cookies should remain light-colored. Don't touch them until the cool completely or they will crumble. Store in an air-tight jar.

SOOOOOO delicious! They are going to be part of my cookie gift bag this year.

It begins...

Last night honey made some tahini cookies. AMAZING. I suppose this officially marks the beginning of Christmas Cookie Season. And last night was a good prep for me, because I remembered why I need to be so diligent around the cookies. In no time at all, I ate four cookies, warm and crumbly, right from the oven. The cinnamon and powdered sugar topping was still slightly melted... MMM.

So I'm up this morning, nice and early, to work extra hard to cancel out those cookies. I'll have to do an extra rep or two!

Today's gym workout is back and biceps. My triceps are still super sore from Sunday's workout! When I try to put on or take off my coat, I hear the Benny Hill music in my head. I hope I don't look as ridiculous as I feel.

Off to warm up the car! The worst part about morning gym time during the winter months is that it's SO DARN COLD when I leave. But I suppose the cold air does me some good.

    Tahini cookies?! Erm, please share the recipe. LOL probably the wrong comment and not your intention here, I know, but YUMMO. (Plus I've recently become obsessed with making hummus and have no idea what to do with the rest of the giant jar of tahini I just bought.)

:) You gotta enjoy life while you got it. Sure, don't eat the whole tray and hit the gym to keep the calories in check, but you've got that part under control.
