I am totally, utterly, exhausted this morning. I went to bed early, got eight hours of sleep, and STILL have a heck of a time getting up. I need Christmas break.

The house is a mess - I can't get it under control! All I want to do when I come home is sit on the couch. Sigh...

Enough of that.

I think I'm going to take today and tomorrow off from the gym. I didn't go yesterday, either, but I need some rest. My body is screaming out for it - it's about time I listen!

drink tons of water!!!
Limit carbs for the rest of the day - I already had over half my day's amount because I couldn't say NO to the second bowl of cereal.
Do some food writing
Clean up a room

Tahini Cookies recipe

MMMM The tahini cookies are so good!

from The Book of New Israeli Food by Janna Gur

250 g (9oz) butter, softened
200 g (1 cup) sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon salt
180 ml (3/4 cup) raw tahini
450 g (3 cups + 2 tablespoons) flour
10 g (2 teaspoons) baking powder
For dusting:
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon

1. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy and creamy (4-5 minutes)
2. Lower speed and add vanilla, cinnamon, salt, orange zest and tahini. Beat to a smooth consistency. Add flour and baking powder and process to a smooth and malleable dough. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.
3. Preheat oven to 180 C (350F)
4. Mix confectioners' sugar and cinnamon in small bowl
5. Pinch small pieces off the dough and roll balls the size of small olives. Roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
6. Space cookies on lined tray. Bake for 15 minutes. The cookies should remain light-colored. Don't touch them until the cool completely or they will crumble. Store in an air-tight jar.

SOOOOOO delicious! They are going to be part of my cookie gift bag this year.

It begins...

Last night honey made some tahini cookies. AMAZING. I suppose this officially marks the beginning of Christmas Cookie Season. And last night was a good prep for me, because I remembered why I need to be so diligent around the cookies. In no time at all, I ate four cookies, warm and crumbly, right from the oven. The cinnamon and powdered sugar topping was still slightly melted... MMM.

So I'm up this morning, nice and early, to work extra hard to cancel out those cookies. I'll have to do an extra rep or two!

Today's gym workout is back and biceps. My triceps are still super sore from Sunday's workout! When I try to put on or take off my coat, I hear the Benny Hill music in my head. I hope I don't look as ridiculous as I feel.

Off to warm up the car! The worst part about morning gym time during the winter months is that it's SO DARN COLD when I leave. But I suppose the cold air does me some good.

    Tahini cookies?! Erm, please share the recipe. LOL probably the wrong comment and not your intention here, I know, but YUMMO. (Plus I've recently become obsessed with making hummus and have no idea what to do with the rest of the giant jar of tahini I just bought.)

:) You gotta enjoy life while you got it. Sure, don't eat the whole tray and hit the gym to keep the calories in check, but you've got that part under control.

This sudden change in weather is wreaking havoc on my skin! I have sensitive skin to begin with, and this cold is making my chin look like Rudolph's nose. Yeesh.

Yesterday was a great day for my plan! I got in a monster weight training session at the gym, then came home and had a great day of eating. Drank tons of water and ate lots of clementines. Wrote out my Christmas cards and started my cookie list. I even wrapped a present!

So I am really really excited about something! I am very good at my job and I love it, but I always felt like there was something missing. Like a hobby. I mean, I like to do lots of stuff, but I could never find anything that I REALLY liked to do, and often. So I started thinking, which I do sometimes, and I figured out what it is that I love. It's food photography. I started reading up on some stuff over the weekend, and I'm really psyched about learning more about food photography and how to become good at it. I am going to ask Santa for a new camera. I told this to Brad, and almost on cue, my old camera stopped connecting to the computer. I can't figure it out, but the USB is not working. huh. I think it's a sign.

It's just about time for me to head off to the gym. I ordered a new pair of running shoes (Zappos had them on sale!) and I'm going to break them in. It's amazing how wonderful a new pair of shoes can make your feel feel! And you know, it's also kind of amazing how different kinds of shoes can really make a difference in how you perform. I ordered a pair of shoes for lifting weights, and hoo-ee what a difference! They have SO much more support than my running shoes, and I feel so much sturdier when I'm doing my squats. Which is important when you have 100 pounds on your shoulders that you don't want to come crashing down.

Something I learned about myself - my upper body strength is seriously lacking. My killer chest workout almost *did* kill me yesterday. I could barely lift my arms to wash my hair yesterday after the gym! But that tells me that I am going to get some awesome arms as my workouts progress. Look out!

- drink all my water/tea (I LOVE LOVE LOVE drinking hot tea!!!)
- regulate the sweets (i.e. count the almonds)
- Be positive!
- write something about food (I am reading a book about food writing, and it gives some really good writing prompts. I am to write about food every day.)

    HAHA!!! I laughed at your sore arms only b/c mine were sore last week,too after my awesome upper body w/o!! And DD told me today that her armpits were killing this morning(she did some fab workout this weekend). I LOVE that my kids(well, the older ones) love to workout!
Great job on good eating and drinking of water/tea. that reminds me-need my water jug here while i spark.

Every day I am feeling better and better about my eating habits! It took a while to get back to eating "normally," but I think I'm almost there!

This weekend was verrrrrrrry slow. Friday I took a half day - I came home at noon and slept for HOURS on the couch. It was wonderful. We dined on chicken noodle soup and mango sorbet. It was the perfect dinner for my cold!
Yesterday I went shopping with my mom. Got a little (very little) Christmas shopping done and saw the movie Hugo. It was AMAZING. Although the book is written for older children, I think the movie was definitely for young adults and adults. It was beautifully shot, and the music and the direction was just... wow. Gorgeous. Read the book before you go - The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It won the Caldecott Award!
My eating yesterday was pretty darn good!
Breakfast - small bowl of cereal (about 1/2 serving)
Snack - about 3/4 of a small popcorn (no butter) at the movie
Lunch (late lunch) - three small Spring Rolls and Tom Yum soup (holy moly it was spicy!) at the Thai restaurant where my mom and I ate
Dessert - warm, delicious Toll House chocolate chip cookie
Dinner - whole-wheat pizza made by my honey (it even had swiss chard on it!)
Sweet - mango sorbet

So it really was a pretty good eating day. I even managed to not even TOUCH the sweets that were out at one of the stores! Yahoo!

- drink tons of water and tea. I am still feeling this darn cold (last night I woke myself up with my coughing - ugh) and I'd like it to just go away!
- work really hard at strength training this morning. It's a chest/triceps day. My pants will be fitting perfectly in no time!
- Continue the good eating pattern. Keep myself busy today so I don't get bored - when I get bored, I eat.
