Thank you!

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Thank you for your comments on my three year blog. Spark friends, you rock!

Today was a great fitness day. Morning run, evening yoga. Tomorrow is a morning strength training session - my legs are going to be so wobbly!

I drank lots and lots of water, and I even snacked on a clementine.

Time to get ready for bed...

Whoa - three years on Spark!

Monday, January 02, 2012

Wow - three years on Spark! I didn't really think about it until this morning when I was going through my Spark Teams... Class of Jan. 1 2009. Holy moly!

I can't believe how much I've learned about myself in those three years. I have gained confidence. I have become more positive. My health has improved greatly! (I was really excited to find out that my resting heart rate was 50bpm according to my checkup last week.)

I've learned to appreciate what I have. I've learned how to celebrate accomplishments - my own, and my friends'. I took up running - I still think about the awful high school fitness test where we had to run a mile in 12 minutes. I couldn't do it. And now I'm running 5Ks!

I have challenged myself more than I ever thought possible. I did a crazy 300 Challenge at my gym, where I lifted more than I ever have. I looked at my shoes, and I almost have as many pairs of various workout shoes as I do "regular" shoes! Shoes for running, weight training, biking, hiking, walking, kickboxing... sheesh!

I've been called many things in these three years. And I love them.

Skinny
Thin
Fit
Slinky
Healthy-looking
Slim
Little
Athletic

Wow! I love it.

This is my year. I know it. I'm going to get totally comfortable in my body, and I'm going to challenge myself both physically and mentally. I am signed up for a Tough Mudder in April, and I gave myself the challenge of maintaining a food blog.

Hoo-eee! I am stoked.

Congratulations! Quite an accomplishment!

Funny thing--I think about my gym teacher when I run too :P Same reason! I still don't run a 12 minute mile, but ya know what, we're out there DOING IT, and that is more than can be said for a lot of people!

Way to go!

2012 = new food photography blog!

Sunday, January 01, 2012

I am so excited about 2012. It's been so productive already! I started my food blog! It was hard for me to get it set up - I'm such a freakin' perfectionist (or "maximizer," as my psychology magazine likes to call it) that it took me forever to pick a theme and even a background color. But that stuff can all be changed. And the only way to do it is to do it! so it's up and active!

http://ctkreider.wordpress.com/

I'm looking forward to working on it more and more this year... I love my new camera! I keep looking at my first blog page and I can't believe it's my picture that's up there.

So about my 2012 goals - I'm looking to focus on eating clean, drinking lots of water, and keeping my workouts going strong. JASR and Tough Mudder are two really exciting events I have to look forward to...

Off to drink some tea!

Reflections

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

In some ways, 2011 was not the most wonderful year. I gained almost ten pounds back (ugh) of what I lost, and that is not a fun feeling. But a very good part is that I discovered some new interests! I took a meditation class, I am going to start working on some food photography, and I learned that I really like strength training.

So while my pants don't fit as well as they did last December, I am not *that* bummed about the road I've traveled.

That said, I want to get some good resolutions in place for 2012. There is a lot happening in 2012! JASR, Tough Mudder, Run for the Red... and I'd love to get my pants fitting where they were before and better still. Brad and I are going to work on eating more cleanly - cutting back even more on our processed foods, white flour, and added sugar. This means getting back into my food journal.

So tomorrow:
- early morning (7:50!) doctor's appointment
- shopping
- errands (lots of name change stuff)
- start working on some resolution things!
- water water water!

Not much else to report... I think it's time to sit and read a bit.

My girth expandeth

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

A funny thing happened yesterday. I ate WAY too many Hershey Kisses and brownie and cookies, and today I feel like a gigantic lump. Usually the lump feeling comes after a few holiday days of eating like that, but this year it was only one day. One of my kindergarten kiddos gave me a mug full of Hershey Kisses yesterday (a big mug). Guess how many were left when I brought it home. About four. Ugh. I could FEEL myself growing as I ate them. But did I stop? Of course not. URGH

But sometimes feeling like that is a small blessing. It reminds us of why we are choosing to fill our bodies with healthiness. Why we choose to wake up at the crack of dawn to go to the gym. Why we put on layer after layer to go out and run in the cold air. We choose those things because they make us FEEL good. Never mind the scale at that point. I just *felt* awful. So as much as I would have loved to make an excuse this morning to not go to the gym, I couldn't come up with a single good one. In fact, I am looking forward to going to the gym - it's a great way to start the day. And I don't want to ruin my hard work with too many sweets!

I recently read a book in which there was a suggestion on how to stick with a workout plan. The suggestion (among other ones) was "go to the gym every Monday." And I totally understand this now! I make an excuse (ugh) about why I "couldn't" go yesterday, and it was not a good start to the week. I would have surely been a better eater yesterday had I gone. But I can't go back now. All I can do is go forward from today!

Look out... here comes the gun show!

Today:
- drink water water water
- be positive!
- kick my own butt at the gym
- be selective about sweets (if any!)

What a great tip--go to the gym every Monday. I love poppin into SparkPeople to see what little nuggets of wisdom can be picked up.

We have lots of cookies and candy and cakes all around the coffee pot. I try to swoop in early to get my coffee before the plastic wrap is removed and then I walk the long way around to cross the office so I don't have to go past it again. I avoid the treats & get in some extra steps.

Keep movin' forward and have a great holiday!
