Rest days and being the taste-tester.

I am so sore I can't even stand it. Between my crazy new circuit and my massage therapist kneading the beejeezus out of my shoulder and quads, I feel like I've been run over by a truck. But in a good way. I guess? *Is* there a good way when your muscles feel like this? So tomorrow is a rest day. My chiro suggested it. He told me his observation of patients training for something, totally over-training, and rather than missing one or two days of training, missing two or more weeks. I love my chiro.

Brad had a job interview today! And he goes back next week to do a second interview, kind of like an episode of "Chopped". He will get a bowl of food and he has to use it all to make a dish. Looks like this week will be full of me being the guinea pig for his recipes! Hooray! I love being married to a chef.

Today I ran three miles with NO PAIN in my knee. This is HUGE! I can't tell you the last time that happened. I put aside my pride, slowed down the treadmill, and I did it! Endurance is going to be my priority - the Tough Mudder is ten miles. And since it's not a race, I don't need to be fast. But I *do* need to be able to get through the whole thing.

Time for a little ice cream treat (Blue Bunny Chocolate Lovers' Champ Cone... mmmmmm) and couch time!

    Understand the muscle aches - I'm doing a new circuit which is really good but some muscles are yacking that they think it's a workout and of course I did it two days in a row - today's my day of rest for that. Congrats on the painless run and enjoy (in moderation) the taste tests:)

The Tough Mudder is quickly approaching! About two months to go! Eeep.

Time to really hit the training hard. This morning I went to the gym to do my new circuit - HOLY MOLY. Here it is:

20 bodyweight squats
10 jump squats
20 alt. lunges
10 jumping junges
repeat 3X

20 pullups
20 pushups
20 kettle bell swings
20 burpees
20 situps
repeat 3X

WHOA. But a really neat thing that happened today was that one of the trainers was in with another client, and they were close to where I was doing my stuff. She gave me a variation on the burpee called the "Crossfit Burpee." When you go down to do the squat thrust, you put your chest immediately to the ground, and when you come up, add a jump at the end. No rest in between them. WOW. So I did a few of them and boy did it make me work! But on my way out, she gave me a thumbs up. Woot!

Got some new vitamins over the weekend. I'm like a kid and prefer chewable vitamins over the giant capsules. So I now have chewable calcium and gummy Omega-3. I have been taking fish oil/Omega-3 for a while now, and it has made a big difference in my hair (I don't know what else, I can just see how it affected my hair). It's thicker, shinier, and looks much healthier. Of course, this might be my diet and workouts, too, but the Omega-3 is good for me anyway.

I'm getting ready to head out for a facial. My skin seriously needs it today. The last month has been so stressful with the painting and everything - my poor skin is tired of me touching it out of stress habit! Then it's off to look for some new workout gear. Yahoo! I know I've written this before, but it's so funny how I am more excited to get new gym clothes than any other kind of clothes! (Almost, it depends on my mood. I really love buying sandals when the weather is warm.)

    I've been taking fish as soon as I read what you wrote about Omega-3 I instantly reached up to see if my hair felt different. :)'s still a little damp from my shower and in a ponytail, so I can't tell.

Great workout! Nice of that trainer to give you a little trick to make it extra hard. :)

    I was at the Running Room the other day checking out new clothes.. $149 for a pair of pants and I said "ooh, that's not bad!" If those had been office clothes, I'd have thrown them back on the rack with a "Pffft, I don't *think* so!"

    Wow, you got a great work out in. I can't wait until I can say I can do one pull up with out using the assistance of the machine. I am getting there, but as you said time is starting to run out.

    What an impressive workout, made me tired just reading through it!!!
I know the feeling on new work out clothes...used to be baggy was better, but this weekend I tried on some form fitting pieces, and I didn't run screaming from the fitting room!

    Wow, now THAT is a workout! Impressive! I couldn't do 2 pullups if my life depended on it, so I am especially impressed with that part. Keep up the great work and you will dominate that race!

The kitchen is done being painted, and Brad is finishing up the ceiling now. By god, I think the painting is almost done!

This morning was weigh-in day and the scale was very nice to me. It really gave me a boost to start the day! I did some interval hills and sprints on the TM. The gym was nice and empty. Came home and had a delicious roast beef sandwich for lunch. Brad and I started our own little tradition of having a lunch meat sandwich on Sunday afternoons. How funny that lunch meat is like a little treat for me now where it used to be an almost every-day thing for me!

Tum is rumbling a little bit for something... I'll clean up a little bit and then maybe have some fruit.

Today I:
- worked out hard!
- drank all my water
- got lots done around the house
- wrote in my journal - I really needed to do this today!

Today was another pretty good day! I woke up early for a swim, had a decent day at school, and came home to fried chicken for dinner! Perfect!

And tomorrow's Friday! What more could I ask for?!?!?

I'm so looking forward to the weekend.

I don't usually try recipes that I find in magazines, only because with hubs being a chef, he can come up with pretty darn good stuff on his own. But the other day, a breakfast idea jumped out at me. Brad isn't awake when I eat breakfast, so I can kind of do my own thing. Today I tried a magazine idea - a slice of raisin toast with fat free cottage cheese mixed with chopped figs, walnuts, and little honey. SOOOO delicious. This is something totally different for me! I love cottage cheese, but don't get it often because I'm the only one who eats it. I have a feeling that I'm going to be eating this breakfast a lot! I'm totally full from all the stuff in the cottage cheese. Yahoo!

I have a haircut today after school. I can not wait! There's nothing like a little head massage and fresh cut to perk me up! Not getting anything chopped, just cleaned up a bit. It's time.

I don't observe Lent in the religious sense, but I *do* like to give something up. I think it's a great stepping stone to giving up bad habits, or to change something you don't like. I decided I'm going to give up using my credit card for Lent. This morning I paid a bill, and I got a little sad because I thought how much more fun I'd have spending the money on something else (or socking it away in savings!) rather than paying off prior purchases. Boo-hoo. So no credit card for me.

- lots of water
- track food (I've been doing a good job lately!)
- workout HARD tonight. I decided to give myself the morning to recover from my massage (yes, I need to recover from it - deep tissue and it HURT) so I'll do my run/circuit training this evening. A nice change of pace, anyway.

    Good idea on not using the credit card, I am in the same boat every time I send money off to them. argh!
