Yay technology...?

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

I hate to be one of those people who complains about technology, because I think it's wonderful, but today was one of those days where technology was not exactly good to me. My rental car was a Ford Flex, which is a HUGE SUV (it seats 7). I drive a little Jetta, so the Flex was definitely a big difference! Well, I got used to it, but something that made me a little nuts was the back-up warning system. It had a camera (which I kinda liked), beeping and lights. Yesterday I was backing out of a spot, and it kept beeping at me; the display read "object approaching from left." I kept checking, and nothing was there! ARGH.

And the other thing was the thing that was wrong with *my* car. It was an Engine Speed Sensor. Nothing wrong with the engine, just the sensor that apparently sensed its speed. $300 later the sensor is fixed. I like to think I would have been able to tell if something was wrong with my engine without this sensor... but I don't know squat about cars, so I'm sure it was there for a good reason.

Anyway, my car is back, and I forgot how much I love my little car. It zips on the highway, and it handles like a dream. It has over 130K miles on it, and it is a smoother ride than the rental I had! It feels so solid.

I'm running a 5K tonight. It's going to be SO cold tonight. I have lots of bundle-y things to wear, so I think I'll be fine. I'm going with one of my girlfriends, and we'll have hot chocolate and pancakes after the run. I'm actually really looking forward to the post-run - I can't tell you the last time I've had pancakes.

Time to drink some more water!

Loved my Jetta... We drove it for almost 300k miles! Then, some silly lady (with a suspended license) t-boned my hubby. He was ok. She was ok. Car was totaled ;-( it was worth waay more to us than to the insurance company.

So now.. I drive a really cute little Cabrio. Same year, and same color as my Jetta... just with half the miles!

New trophy, here I come!

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

I'm really excited! This blog is going to get me to my next Spark trophy. Yahoo!

I can't believe I've earned so many Spark points. This has been an almost four-year journey for me. On January 1st, I'll be a 4-year Sparker!

It's snowing today, and it looks beautiful. I'm glad I don't have to go out in it, though. I went to the gym this morning and the roads were much worse on the way home than they were on the way out. I guess I'm thankful that my rental car is an SUV so I could make it there and back safely today.

I have a couple things to work on today, but the snow makes me feel like I should bundle up and enjoy the rest.

Almost recovery time!

Monday, November 26, 2012

Holy mackerel - I haven't taken a recovery week in a really long time. I have a 5K on Wednesday night (through Christmas lights - I can't wait!) and then I'm going to take the following week as a recovery week. I've been chugging along with my workouts, which is great, but I really feel like my body needs some time off.

My pants are getting looser, and I feel like my legs are getting tighter. Yahoo!

Today:
- drink all my water
- run some errands
- get my hair cut (yahoooooo!)

Post-turkey

Saturday, November 24, 2012

So Thanksgiving is over. I had a really nice time visiting all my family. Turkey leftovers are in the fridge, I didn't over eat (I usually don't at Thanksgiving - it has never been that big of an eating holiday for my family), and I even managed to lose a pound. Hurrah!

But now it's time to start thinking about some new goals. I know some people like to use this time of year as an excuse to go crazy and eat whatever they want (yesterday when I was out with my mom, I overheard a girl telling someone that it wouldn't be the holiday season without her putting on ten pounds. I thought this was such a shame!), but I like to use it as a jump on my New Year's resolutions.

One inspiring thing I did this morning was to go back and look at some old weight reports, just to see how far I've come. It's amazing! There was a little blip in my tracker when I gained ten pounds (last summer), but I've gotten rid of it all since then just from using what I know - keeping track of my eating, workout out consistently, and writing in my journal.

I channeled the stress of losing my job into training for triathlons, taking swimming classes, and becoming crafty. I feel like I've really been embracing my new-found time to learn more about myself. I've recommitted myself to living a more "green" lifestyle, and really working on living my life as a model for my potential future PT clients. And also for my family and friends - my mom and my best friend are both trying to lose weight. And I think the best way to help them is not to be preachy, but to just live a healthy lifestyle. And when they ask me for advice, I can tell them what I do, rather than "this is what I heard you should do..."

So I know this blog is all about me and I guess it seems sort of like a brag, but I'm just so excited about how far I've come and how much my life has changed! I just feel like I'm in a really good place right now.

Happy for you and all the positives in your life. You're reaching new levels of fitness and healthy living--in all areas--and you are an inspiration and will be for your future clients and those around you will take notice!

Great job on all you're doing. I, too, gained 10 pounds last summer! Wonder what that was...oh, I know, it was food-related.

Great that you are maintaining your healthy eating habits through the holidays and even lost a pound!! emoticon emoticon
