Spending the last two days with the kiddos really did a number on me! I woke up with a sore throat and just generally feeling pretty crappy. So I sat around in my sweats all day reading. I made it through the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy (Finally!!!) and I CANNOT WAIT to read the last one.

I'm going to take a break from reading, though, and watch a little Monty Python. What a ridiculously indulgent day.

My daughter and I both read all three books and LOVED them. In fact they are the last books I read that I couldn't put down. We liked the movie too and are looking forward to the next one.

I had had the first book for a long time and put off reading it because of the topic--I just thought it would be too dark--but I was wrong. They are uplifting.

Hope you feel better soon, and enjoy the last book--it is fantastic!!

I recently treated myself to a new pair of boots. As much as I like hunting for deals in the thrift stores (yesterday I posted that I found two cashmere sweaters for $5 each, and I recently found a merino wool vest - in perfect condition - for $2.50), I still buy my shoes new. I've learned (the hard way) that it's important to have good shoes. They keep everything in line, which keeps my back and my knees and my hips, etc. healthy. So anyway, I found a really cute pair of Clarks boots on sale at Zappos. They were marked down to $119 from $190! They came last night. I was a little nervous, because they weren't marked as "extended calf." No matter how much weight I lose or what size I become anywhere else, my calves, I think, are just destined to be big. Anyway.

I put on the boots last night, and they freaking zip up! No squeezing or contorting my calves to get them in, the boots just fit! I was SOOOOO excited.

(In full disclosure, I bought the boots because the reviews said that the calves ran really wide, but I don't care. They weren't advertised as such.)

Today:
- sub for special ed at my old school (I love seeing my old kids!)
- drink all my water
- make a Grasshopper Pie for my bestie's birthday celebration tomorrow
- stick to the eating plan and write down all my food

Awesome! I often chastise myself for my 'tree trunk legs' when boots don't fit so I feel your pain. :) Yay for them fitting!!

Congrats on the boots - I know the calf issue....when I'm feeling good about myself I say my legs are sturdy...when I'm not...well I'm not talking about it. Here's to a good day and seeing your old kids and maybe more $ opening back up for the schools or selling the house and moving on to new adventures.

Congrats and enjoy the new boots. I love boots too but my skinny, flat feet make them difficult to find at a price that I can affort.

The Sweater

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

I got the deal of the week at the Salvation Army this morning. I went in looking for an old towel so I could make some bibs for the gazllion people I know who are pregnant, and I found two cashmere/wool blend sweaters from Brooks Brothers. For the towel and the two sweaters, I paid $11.00. SO excited. But even more exciting was seeing how the sweaters fit. They were both size smalls, and they looked really teeny on the hanger. But I decided to try them on anyway, planning on being really disappointed. But they both fit perfectly! I could have screamed in the fitting room. I can't believe that something so small-looking fits me!

My rest week is almost over. On Thursday I'm going to wing night with my bestie and our men for her birthday, and then Friday, it's back to working out hard. While my body is definitely thanking me for the break, I'm really ready to get back to my normal schedule. I've gotten a lot of time to think about my December goals, though. I just need to get them written down on a poster (which I have started).

- Do one outside workout a week
- Trade out the plastic in the kitchen for glass or stainless steel
- write down my food every day

I have a very supportive hubby - I'm very lucky. Off to finish my lamp shade!

I need to get cracking on my December goals! I have a few in mind... this month is going to be busy. I'm sure I'll be called in to sub a lot, and I have stuff to do to get ready for Christmas! I am making a lot of my presents, so I have to remember to leave time for that.

Today:
- drink all my water
- write down all my food
- work on December goals
- wrap a present or two
- figure out food gifts

I made some windchimes today!

Saturday, December 01, 2012

So I made a pretty awesome Christmas gift tonight. I had an old set of bells in my mom's basement, and I brought them home when I had the SUV (I brought a LOT of stuff to my house with that SUV!). Since it's a lean Christmas here, I am making a bunch of presents. So here are the windchimes I made for my dad and his wife:

They are SO amazing. I tuned them to B-flat major; they needed to be something calming, I think. They sound so good. I may make a set for our house, too! They were super easy to make.

I bought a wreath today made of real pine - it smells so good. I did also buy a pine-scented soy candle (I was at a local craft fair today and picked it up - turns out I know the guy who made it!) so the house smells like the holidays. It reminds me of my Mema and Poppy's house - they were my grandparents who owned a Christmas tree farm. I used to go out on the tractor with my Poppy to look at the trees and take care of them. It is a wonderful memory for me, and this candle makes me think of that.

I also cut out some fabric to make bibs - I just found out that ANOTHER teacher at my old school is preggers! I am using some old fabric to make some bibs; I found two REALLY easy patterns - I just need to get some terrycloth for the back.

Good things for today:
- drank all my water
- successfully resisted the bake sale at the craft show
- had three parents tell me that they really miss me at school
- wrote down all my food for today

Maybe you should host your own craft show on local TV!
