I had really low expectations of how today was going to go. It was just one of those days... on my way in to school, I started thinking about how sad I was that I don't have a school family anymore. For as much as people said they were going to stay in touch, life happened and everyone just got too busy. I thought about how sad I was that Christmas parties are happening, Secret Santas and cookie exchanges in the schools and that I'm not going to be a part of it this year. Being unemployed isn't all about the money, it's the sense of community that goes along with having a steady job.

So anyway, I was expecting a really crappy day. But leave it to fourth graders - I had a great day with the kids, I got some nice compliments from colleagues, and I got in a great workout after school. I felt much better after I went to the gym. I usually have a hard time going after school, but today I just got in the car and drove to the gym without really thinking about it. If I think about it too much, I make excuses.

Good things for today:
- I drank all my water!
- I did a great great great workout; I went to a Pilates class for the first time in ages and I have really gotten stronger. I was able to do moves on the ball that I wouldn't have been able to do just a few months ago!
- The kids were really nice today.

Tomorrow is a sports conditioning class after school. It's new at my gym and I'm looking forward to it. I am scheduled to do a circuit tomorrow, so I figured the class would be a fun way to get in some circuit training.

    Glad you had a good day. It's hard at this time of year when it seems that everyone is doing the stuff they used to and you don't - it was so encouraging to me yesterday when my husband said: do you know what's different about this year? I'm listening to Christmas music. (The last three years have varied in levels of depression - worse, worser and worstest - i know not real words) So here's to listening to Christmas music, to 4th graders who bring joy into your life, to colleagues who compliment and a good hard workout.

I am subbing the next three days, and I'm pretty glad. I had yesterday and today off, so I'm ready to go in.

Tomorrow:
- short run and Pilates class after school

Eating comparison

I'm feeling good. I got in a nice little run this morning, and did some bike just for good measure. Headed down to my mum's house today to take her to the doctor. It's always a challenge to stick to eating good foods when I'm at my mom's house. I always feel like one of those articles "don't trick yourself by saying 'at least I'm doing better than they are'." I compare my food to my mom's food and think "well, at least I'm not eating that," and I know that is not the best way for me to think about my food.

Today's challenges:
- drink all my water
- make good food choices while away from home (I'm packing some clementines for a snack)
- enjoy the time with my mom

$10 motivation

I'm not usually one to keep too-small clothes around as motivation - in the past I have, and I've ended up disappointed and returning the clothes because it wasn't helping me. But yesterday I went out to a little thrift store (I'm OBSESSED with thrift shopping as of late!) and I found a gorgeous J. Crew winter white wool skirt. The only problem was that it was a size 2. But I thought "what the heck, I'll see how close I am anyway." So I try it on, and the darn thing zipped up. It fit great around the waist! The thigh area is still snug, but I bought it anyway. For ten bucks??!? A size 2? Yes, please. On the way home I stopped and picked up some thigh slimmers (than you, Spanx!) to help me out for a while. I was SO freakin' excited.

Talk about motivation! I even skipped the ice cream I planned on eating last night and instead baked an apple for my dessert. I have a new goal! To wear the white skirt for Christmas Eve. One of my new (thrift store!) cashmere sweaters is winter white and will make a really beautiful Christmas outfit. Hooray!

Good things for today:
- drank water
- GREAT workout this morning!

    YAY!!!! sounds beautiful and a picture is necessary come Christmas !!! I just found a new skirt and sweater at the consignment store(the skirt was $4!!! ) last week. My sizes are going UP ,though!!! A size 2 skirt...WOW! I was thrilled with a 6~~~ You are doing great and way to reward yourself with the baked apple...I just ate your ice cream(peppermint with real candy cane pieces)

Morning habit

It's a funny thing, the morning workout. Last night I was getting ready to go to bed, and I couldn't even bear the thought of having to workout this morning. But then, I woke up, put on my gym clothes, and it was a workout as usual. So weird, how a good night's sleep and the habit of putting on gym clothes first thing changes everything.

Today I have to get next week's workout schedule written down. I felt so lost this morning - I almost didn't go at all because I was fretting over what I was going to do at the gym. I definitely over-think things, often.

Today:
- plan workouts
- run some errands
- paint my nails
