Eating comparison

I'm feeling good. I got in a nice little run this morning, and did some bike just for good measure. Headed down to my mum's house today to take her to the doctor. It's always a challenge to stick to eating good foods when I'm at my mom's house. I always feel like one of those articles "don't trick yourself by saying 'at least I'm doing better than they are'." I compare my food to my mom's food and think "well, at least I'm not eating that," and I know that is not the best way for me to think about my food.

Today's challenges:
- drink all my water
- make good food choices while away from home (I'm packing some clementines for a snack)
- enjoy the time with my mom

$10 motivation

I'm not usually one to keep too-small clothes around as motivation - in the past I have, and I've ended up disappointed and returning the clothes because it wasn't helping me. But yesterday I went out to a little thrift store (I'm OBSESSED with thrift shopping as of late!) and I found a gorgeous J. Crew winter white wool skirt. The only problem was that it was a size 2. But I thought "what the heck, I'll see how close I am anyway." So I try it on, and the darn thing zipped up. It fit great around the waist! The thigh area is still snug, but I bought it anyway. For ten bucks??!? A size 2? Yes, please. On the way home I stopped and picked up some thigh slimmers (than you, Spanx!) to help me out for a while. I was SO freakin' excited.

Talk about motivation! I even skipped the ice cream I planned on eating last night and instead baked an apple for my dessert. I have a new goal! To wear the white skirt for Christmas Eve. One of my new (thrift store!) cashmere sweaters is winter white and will make a really beautiful Christmas outfit. Hooray!

Good things for today:
- drank water
- GREAT workout this morning!

    YAY!!!! sounds beautiful and a picture is necessary come Christmas !!! I just found a new skirt and sweater at the consignment store(the skirt was $4!!! ) last week. My sizes are going UP ,though!!! A size 2 skirt...WOW! I was thrilled with a 6~~~ You are doing great and way to reward yourself with the baked apple...I just ate your ice cream(peppermint with real candy cane pieces)

Morning habit

It's a funny thing, the morning workout. Last night I was getting ready to go to bed, and I couldn't even bear the thought of having to workout this morning. But then, I woke up, put on my gym clothes, and it was a workout as usual. So weird, how a good night's sleep and the habit of putting on gym clothes first thing changes everything.

Today I have to get next week's workout schedule written down. I felt so lost this morning - I almost didn't go at all because I was fretting over what I was going to do at the gym. I definitely over-think things, often.

Today:
- plan workouts
- run some errands
- paint my nails

Spending the last two days with the kiddos really did a number on me! I woke up with a sore throat and just generally feeling pretty crappy. So I sat around in my sweats all day reading. I made it through the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy (Finally!!!) and I CANNOT WAIT to read the last one.

I'm going to take a break from reading, though, and watch a little Monty Python. What a ridiculously indulgent day.

    My daughter and I both read all three books and LOVED them. In fact they are the last books I read that I couldn't put down. We liked the movie too and are looking forward to the next one.

I had had the first book for a long time and put off reading it because of the topic--I just thought it would be too dark--but I was wrong. They are uplifting.

Hope you feel better soon, and enjoy the last book--it is fantastic!!

I recently treated myself to a new pair of boots. As much as I like hunting for deals in the thrift stores (yesterday I posted that I found two cashmere sweaters for $5 each, and I recently found a merino wool vest - in perfect condition - for $2.50), I still buy my shoes new. I've learned (the hard way) that it's important to have good shoes. They keep everything in line, which keeps my back and my knees and my hips, etc. healthy. So anyway, I found a really cute pair of Clarks boots on sale at Zappos. They were marked down to $119 from $190! They came last night. I was a little nervous, because they weren't marked as "extended calf." No matter how much weight I lose or what size I become anywhere else, my calves, I think, are just destined to be big. Anyway.

I put on the boots last night, and they freaking zip up! No squeezing or contorting my calves to get them in, the boots just fit! I was SOOOOO excited.

(In full disclosure, I bought the boots because the reviews said that the calves ran really wide, but I don't care. They weren't advertised as such.)

Today:
- sub for special ed at my old school (I love seeing my old kids!)
- drink all my water
- make a Grasshopper Pie for my bestie's birthday celebration tomorrow
- stick to the eating plan and write down all my food

    Congrats on the boots - I know the calf issue....when I'm feeling good about myself I say my legs are sturdy...when I'm not...well I'm not talking about it. Here's to a good day and seeing your old kids and maybe more $ opening back up for the schools or selling the house and moving on to new adventures.
