Land of the living

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Today I am finally starting to feel better. Yesterday I did, actually, but today is even better. As much as I hated being sick over Christmas, I'm happy with how I managed to take care of myself to get better. Bleh.

I will be skipping out on the gym again today, and probably tomorrow. I might go on Saturday for an easy time on the elliptical. I still get tired really quickly.

Today:
- bake cookies for tomorrow's visit with hubs' parents (they are coming up for brunch and Christmas gift exchange)
- clean up the house a bit for tomorrow's visit
- spend some time resting

Glad you're feeling better and also easing back into the swing of life. Understand the being sick over Christmas - me too although my virus is the one which turns you into a frog with a sore throat. Hugs.

Itís not always easy to walk in the old paths when everyone around us is looking for something new, but it is right! It isnít always easy to live for the Lord when others around you are living for the world, the flesh and the devil, but it is right! It isnít always easy to do the right thing when others around you are acting in bad ways, but it is always right! The fact is we can make a choice to live for God, even when everyone else seems to be going their own way and living for self. Did You Know? Vic.

On the Friday before Christmas, Santa gave to me...

Monday, December 24, 2012

the flu.

I have been in bed for three days. Today is the first day since Friday that I finally feel like part of the living world. I will head down to my mom's house in a little bit.

What I learned from having the flu the weekend before Christmas:
- I actually really liked the rest
- No stress of wrapping or baking (although I had to wrap it all this morning)
- I have a wonderful hubby. He took care of my all weekend and brought me all kinds of good stuff to get better.

I guess I don't really need to worry about overeating today, since I really don't feel like eating anything except bananas and clementines...

Tonight's workout was awesome. I am really feeling myself getting stronger.

Finished my hubs' X-mas pillow - I turned an old college football shirt into a throw pillow. I think he's going to love it.

Drank all my water.

Crossed some more Christmas shopping off my list.

Got new tires on my car. Just in time for the flurries that just fell! Hooray snow!

Met my bestie for breakfast while my tires were being put on.

What a fantastic day!

It was weigh-in day, and I lost a pound.

I went to the dermatologist for a skin check and nothing looked funny! (This is two in a row, which is HUGE for me.)

I worked the easiest afternoon in the history of working. At my old school, so I got to see some great kiddos.

After school, I had a fantastic run and a Pilates class that was amazing.

And I have a new love - coconut oil. I started using it after an evening shower, and it is SO wonderful. I love smelling like a vacation for a few minutes, and it makes my skin ridiculously soft. And there's nothing funny in it!

Now it's time for dinner - I'm having some cod cakes that hubs made.

Sounds like a lovely day! I love coconut oil too! I've started baking/cooking with it and used it on my skin. Makes it soft all day long! And it smells wonderful!

Eye opening!

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

This morning I had a little bit of an epiphany. I was standing around waiting for my hair oil to soak in at the same time I was waiting for a sub phone call, and it hit me. I dislike subbing because of its unplanned nature. I'm not really a spontaneous person (especially when it comes to work) and it annoys me that I often don't know when I'm going to be working. Yesterday I didn't take the phone call because I went to bed really late on Sunday night and just wanted to sleep. But today, I was up early because I kind of *wanted* to go in, and no phone call. Which was annoying, because I could have gone to the gym early. But I was all showered and ready to teach. Ugh.

Anyway, I got over it and came downstairs for breakfast. And I had *another* epiphany! (I have no idea what's going on today.) I was racking my brain for hubby's Christmas gifts - I already got him a new computer chair and some fun little map mugs, but I wanted to do something else for him. He has a ton of old college shirts and I can not STAND to see him wear them. They are HUGE on him (he lost about 50 pounds since then) and they are getting very holey. He doesn't want to get rid of them, so I decided I'm going to make pillows out of them. I'll get some new t-shirts to replace the old ones - I can live with his college t-shirts on the couch (I think it sounds kind of fun, anyway) and he can wear some stuff that fits.

Today:
- drink all my water
- stick to a reasonable number of coconut macaroons (I made a bath yesterday and they are AMAZING. I never made them before. I wanted to make something different for a Christmas cookie, and I think I found it!)
- order some Christmas presents
- set up a light in the house
- work on my resume

I try to stay well enough and have few reasons to call in a guest teacher for that reason--I feel guilty for interrupting their lives! I'm like you, not spontaneous--I need to know what the heck I am doing every day in advance of actually doing it!

I like the pillow idea--I have a friend who makes quilts out of her race shirts :P

It's true--hard to plan ahead when you don't know when/if you'll be working. I did subbing for a while but didn't like it for the same reason. But it is nice that you didn't have to work Monday if you didn't want to. Love your ideas for your hubby's shirts and presents for him. Sounds like a nice tribute to something he loves and a good way to get him to stop wearing old, big shirts! My husband has had some clothes for a while (including things he fit 50 pounds ago, too!) and I noticed little holes on his t-shirt yesterday! He's not sentimental so I won't make pillows (not that I know how) but I should get him some new ones. Let us know how they turn out.

I have to say I started reading your blog when you mentioned hair oil I have discovered through my three children and my teen daughter who has the frizziest hair that one teaspoon of downy softener to a bottle of water takes out the frizz edge and detangles the mess. This only took me several hundreds of dollars of trying and dabbling with everything when I gave up and resorted to trying this because truly she has the frizziest and curliest hair I have ever seen on anyone.
