BBQ Chip Detox Day

Thursday, August 13, 2009

I had a craving last night. Not just a little one, a huge craving for something carbohydrate-y. My fiance went out and got some chips for us. I'm paying for it today. My stomach is sending me a message, loud and clear, that I should not have eaten the chips. If I *have* to find a silver lining, it's that eating like that only once reminds me how I must have felt when I ate like that all the time, but with even *more* grease and nastiness.
So today I am back on track. I am going to a yoga class at 10:00. I will drink more than enough water today. I will go to the store and buy some fruits and veggies (and eat them). I will do something other than sit on the couch and watch bad afternoon TV.
Despite yesterday, I have overall been feeling much better. My clothes are fitting ever-so-slightly better, and when I went to buy pants the other day I thought "hell, I'll just *try* a size 6 and see what happens." And... they closed! I'm not going to say they "fit," but they did indeed close. That little visual was just the kick I needed to remind me why I am Sparking. Thought about buying a cheap end of season bikini in my goal size for next summer and hanging it in my closet. Next summer is a long way away and I don't want to lose sight of where I'd like to be.

Carrie, I think we all have moments like yours - chips are defintely a weakness for me especially anything barbqued. yesterday I went shopping for a new racing shirt and looking for a yellow one. I am running in the Pace for courage on Saturday and thought a yellow shirt would be appropiate. I actually grabbed a XL and Large. I tried on the large first it fit! I haven't worn any large shirt since High School. Wow! I couldn't believe it. You are making such progress - she will get in that new bathing suit before you know it. Have a good day!

Going crazy!

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

So this afternoon and this evening I have been eating. Non-stop. I think I'm done now, my tummy is really full. I don't know what brought it on! I had one piece of bread, and then chips and salsa, and then a PB&J sandwich, and then an ear of corn. It could have been a lot worse if we had more junk in the house. I'm not sure why it happened!
But now I'm really full and trying to figure out why I ate so much.
I just consider myself lucky that there wasn't anything really bad in the house. I think I'll enter it in the nutrition tracker just to see the damage; I am trying to motivate myself to go to the gym later tonight. Either swimming or a light run. But there is a storm happening right now and I just feel like lying on the couch. Is that so wrong? Maybe I'll do some leg exercises here tonight. Yesterday was a rough day - in the morning I went swimming and last night I did a 4.5 mile run with the running club. perhaps I overdid it yesterday - I'm not used to that much cardio in one day. Tomorrow night is another run and I don't want to be as sluggish for that run as I was last night. I think maybe I'll brew a pot of decaf coffee and enjoy listening to the rain.

swimming and running do not mix well unless you are conditioned for it . i am also very hungry the day after a hard work out.

Carrie, tthat happens to me too. I think my issue comes from along run and if I don't eat right after my run with a protein shake or an energy bar. when I get home I want to eat everything in sight - yours was delayed a day. Be careful and enjoy your run tomorrow and rest this evening.

Sooooooo hot! (and Mexican Soup)

Monday, August 10, 2009

It's super duper hot and humid today. I'm glad I don't have to run outside today. This morning I did a little bike, a little lower body, and a little run at the gym. I was sidetracked for a bit, however, when I tried to put my contact lens in and discovered that a little jalapeno oil was on it from last night when I made soup. A new contact and an hour later, I finally made it to the gym.
It was weigh-in day today. Really hoping for a good number since I had such a great week. According to the scale, I gained .5 pounds. But I feel really good and I am really happy with the way my week went, so I'm not bothering with the scale's number. My pants fit better after this week. (And I only took 2 weeks off from my routine! No wonder nothing fit 8 months ago! I was taking my whole *life* off from a routine.)
Tonight is chicken on the grill with some yummy sides. I made veggie stock so we're going to use it for either some rice or some soup. Yum!
Last night's soup demonstration at my brother's house went well. I taught him how to make a simple soup - we had tortilla soup (Spicy!!! MMM). It was SO good. He said "wow, that looked really easy." I was so glad I made it look easy, and I was happy it turned out really good. I think I may even post the recipe...

Update - since I don't really use specific amounts of ingredients, I can't really make a recipe. So here's the list.

Mexican Soup
Saute some onions in a little olive oil. Pinch of kosher salt. I like lots of onions, but you can use a lot or a little. Sliced, diced, however you want to cup them.
Add carrots. Cook a little bit.
Add broth (whatever kind you have.)
Some good stuff to put in:
Black beans, refried beans, chipotle peppers (from a can), corn, cooked meat
On Top: a little sour cream, some cheese, hot sauce to taste (any or all of these can be used)

i LOVE making soup. So easy!

I love soup too, and this sounds great. Once the fall hits, Monday night is my soup night. A soup that I made over the weekend, to make the first dinner of the work week a "no brainer". I will be trying your Mexican soup. Thanks for sharing! emoticon

Feelin' good!

Saturday, August 08, 2009

This week has been a really good week for me. I drank more than enough water, my nutrition has been pretty much in line for where it needs to be to reach my goals, and I re-discovered my love of running.
I went running with a new group this morning; on Thursday night I learned that it was a "bunch of old guys" who ran on a Saturday morning as part of the local running club. I was really nervous this morning that I would be kind of a pain because I run at a slow pace. My buddy was there, though, and he stayed with me and encouraged me. When we finished, he told the group that it was my longest run (it was!) and they were all really excited. Runners are some of the most encouraging people I know!
I burned a ton of calories this week. My fiance was really happy that I started running again. I'm really lucky - he is so supportive.
Yesterday I cleaned out my closet - I'm getting rid of clothing that is too big. I can not believe how much clothing I own. And I *really* can't believe how much I am getting rid of! My fall wardrobe is going to be seriously basic this season.
Off to drink a big glass of water.
Happy Saturday!

What a great week you had! Have you thought about having your clothes tailored? I've been doing a lot of that, along with also shopping a lot (the best part!).

It's so wonderful that your fiance is so supportive! It is a huge help in this crazy journey that we're on, and makes it all the more rewarding when they too notice and admire thehard work we put into making positive changes to our health and our bodies!

I'm so happy for you Carrie - it sounds like you are back full force and better than ever!

Carrie, I am a little nervous to clean out my closet because if I do - there might not be much in there......LOL I am glad you are back to running. It is so much fun and great for this old bod of mine. Last Saturday I had a 10k and there was 13 sparkers there and it was nice. Some ran 10k,5k and some walked a 5k. It was fun cheering each other on and it was a great day. Runners are the best for helping each other. good luck! I had scout camp this last week I blogged about it.

Getting back into a routine...

Friday, August 07, 2009

I kind of slacked off this summer with Sparking. My gym times were erratic, and my eating was not on any kind of schedule. This week was a step in the right direction for me. I finally sucked it up and e-mailed the running club to see if I'd be able to run with them (I didn't want to be too slow for them), and now I've gone Tuesday and Thursday and I found a buddy who is a great running match for me. We are running again tomorrow morning; I am not very fast, but he keeps reminding me that "Running is about doing." Tomorrow is going to be his Slow Day so he can run with me. Yay for nice people.
I went to a yoga class yesterday for the first time. It was SO wonderful. I felt so good when I was done. It was a lot of balancing, which apparently I am not very good at. What a nice change of pace from running, though. Going to have to try to catch as many classes as I can before school starts. (The classes are Thursday mid-morning.)
So today I am going to:
1) Drink more than enough water.
2) Eat lots of fruit and veggies, probably in salad form.
3) Vacuum the upstairs (it's been on my to-do list for too long).
4) Swim and/or bike tonight. My upper body is still pretty sore from my workout on Wed., and my legs have to hold up for tomorrow morning's 4-6 mile run. So I think I'll just do cardio tonight.

My brother called me last night; he told me that I inspired him. He's not overweight but he is a really unhealthy eater. He told me that he started shopping from the outside of the grocery store because of me. On Sunday I am driving down to visit him; I'm going to teach him how to make soup. I have to say, my soups are pretty tasty. And when I add up the calories, soup is ridiculously good for me. I don't add salt, and I usually use homemade stock. Yum!!!
Off to earn some more Spark Points.
Happy Friday!
