At the beginning of a new month. I love the beginning of the month. I am so motivated at the beginning of the month. The middle and the end? That's another story. But it's the beginning, so I will continue to be motivated.
Last night I printed out an August calendar and wrote in some goals.
- 425 fitness minutes a week (a little lofty, but I know I can do it!)
- 65 grams of protein a day. This will increase by five grams each week until the last full week of August, where I will be eating 80 g of protein a day (eep that's a lot of protein!). Chicken and fish, here I come!
- Lose one pound a week. I am not totally going to focus on the scale, but at least this gives me something to which I am accountable.

That's it so far... I like to come up with weekly goals as well... I'll be thinking of those later.

Today - honey and I got to have lunch together for the first time in about a month. He's been working like crazy - today he went in a little later. We had garlic soup... I didn't even bother tracking it. Heavy cream, French baguette, butter, more butter... it was SOOOOOO good though. We ate it as kind of a late lunch, so by the time I finished digesting it, the gym was closed. The plan was to go for a swim today, but that was before I knew that honey was going to be home for lunch. No worries, though... I walked the neighbor's dogs a few times and I might bust out some pushups and upper body stuff a little later.

Dinner is spanakopita. One of the fun parts of belonging to a CSA is getting different veggies every week. We've been getting wild greens; I am getting tired of the same old pizza topping and soup with them, so I decided that tonight I'd have them in some Phyllo dough. Again, not the healthiest thing, but I *did* layer the Phyllo with cooking spray instead of oil or butter. Small steps add up.

It's time to check on dinner...

Happy August!

OMG where did July go???

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Holy mackerel, it's July 31st. Goodbye, month of so-so eating and no goals.

Tonight I am printing out an August calendar for my Sparking. I'm going to come up with some concrete goals and write them in - then I'm going to hang it up where it can stare me in the face every day. I got a jump on August by putting a picture of a fit body on the box of cookies - I have definitely thought twice every time I "needed" a cookie.

Today I:
Ate smaller meals - this helped keep my hunger in check all day.
Sucked it up and went to the gym - got in a little run, some elliptical, and a little bit of lower body ST.
Drank a lot of water.
Pulled some weeds.
Hung out with my neighbor's dogs (I am dog-sitting this weekend).

Off to work on some August goals!

Sounds like a good day so far!

How did your no-booze week go? I made it 9 days and then went to a baseball game hungry, and ended up having coors light! Ahhh, but might I say how much I enjoyed it, particularly since it was a hot afternoon. The good news is that i skipped the hot dogs and nachos that everyone else was having, and ended up eating egg whites when I got home, and was still within my calorie range! But cutting out the booze completely is so hard, and I think instead of doing that, I'll stick to enjoying a glass of wine every once in a while!

Happy August to you!

I don't know where it went either, but I think it may have evaporated in the heat! Looking forward to a productive and successful August. Let's make it a great one!

Veg out time!

Friday, July 30, 2010

For the last few years, Friday has been my total veg out night. I love to sit on the couch, have a glass of wine, and mindlessly watch TV or a movie (tonight it's The Princess Bride). I love Friday night. It's my time to unwind from the week and plan out what I'm going to work on over the weekend and the next week.

Today was a great day nutrition-wise. One thing I'm looking to tweak is my fat intake. A little peanut butter here and there really adds up. It's just so delicious and adds such great flavor to foods! I'm going to think about this one... I also decided that one of this week's goals is to get more protein into my diet. I didn't look at my past nutrition trackers yet, so I don't have a number, but I will work on that tonight and tomorrow morning. I left enough calories for a glass of wine and a chocolate-chip oatmeal cookie, so I'm pretty pleased about that.

Went to the trainer at noon today... it's so great to have someone pushing me to do things I didn't think I could do! Today she had me do half a mile on the stair climber, then the elliptical, then the treadmill. The goal was 20 minutes... I finished in about 16, so I am going to challenge myself to beat that time each time I do it. Phew!

Picked up my veggies this afternoon. Yum! Made a quick gazpacho, and for dinner I had a stir-fry with some tofu. I actually really like tofu and I figure it's a great way to get some extra protein into my diet. I suppose if there is a bright side to my honey working so much, it's that I can buy foods that I like but he doesn't care for too much (i.e. tofu). I also picked up some mahi fillets from the freezer section - they will be great with some summer squash.

It's time for a little Princess Bride and a cookie...

Hooray for the weekend!

The light at the end of the tunnel...

Thursday, July 29, 2010

So my honey has been working a lot. Like 80 hours a week a lot. It's starting to get to me... I have been down in the dumps, lazy, and feeling sad. But today my honey told me that the management *finally* hired someone else. Yahoo! Hopefully he can get trained quickly so honey and I can go back to having some days off together before school starts back up.

Today I was totally lazy. Sit on the couch, take two naps, not even go for a walk lazy. But i managed to suck it up and go for a 30 minute swim this evening. Eating was not wonderful - I *know* that I am eating to make up for honey not being here. And all things considered, I think I've been doing pretty well with my nutrition. Sigh...

But there is a light - the new guy starts on Monday, so there is reason for celebration. And it's almost the weekend, which means a new week of goals. I have managed to go non-alcoholic all week (hooray!) but I'd like a new goal for next week... I just *really* like to have a glass of wine with dinner. Hm.

Off to have some soup...

Good job on the swim. I like a glass of wine every now and then too. I try to fit it into my calorie range, but if I really feel like it and I didn't think to keep the snacks light during the day, I just have it any way.

It's just like everything else. A little bowl of ice cream won't ruin your plans. A big bowl every night, and twice on Sundays will.

Ahh, I hear you on that Carrie. Before my beau came home last week I hadn't seen him since I went to Austria. He's been on the road for literally 2 months. It stinks - I'm glad they got another guy so your honey can be back home with you. Hooray on the no wine but I think go ahead and pick that new goal for next week and then have a glass of wine with dinner. Maybe you can cut to 2 or 3 nights a week instead of 7. Oh, and I see you did take two naps - one of those must have been for me, thanks! emoticon

The eternal struggle.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

The part about getting ready for a workout I hate the most is putting on the sports bra. Over the head, finagle my arms through, contort shoulders... ladies, you know what I mean. And guys, I suppose it's something like putting on a jockstrap...?

So today I went to the Champion outlet right down the street and bought some new sports bras. The ones that clasp in the back! No more struggling to get it over my head. I am SO excited. I think this will add a whole new dimension to my workouts.

It's been a good day so far. This afternoon is a little more shopping - running shoes, pillows, towels, duvet cover... and then tonight I'm going to see a friend play at a pub. Tonight will be a big challenge for me - no alcohol this week. It severely impairs my eating judgment. I will be strong!

Time to use the roller and ice up my knees... they are crying out for new shoes.

If the sports bra was that tight, shouldn't your title be called "The Eternal Snuggle"?? (((quickly ducks)))

Ohh yes I love shopping!! Completely know what you are talking about, but it's not the getting in that is difficult. it's getting out when I'm all sweaty and the bra is all clingy to my sweaty skin.

Have a good shopping day!

Carrie-I too hate the darn sports bras. In the summer I just wear the running tanks with shelf bras. I figure the girls are gone since I lost the weight so might as well give up the struggle. But otherwise I still struggle. Such is the life of a runner girl! All this shopping...did you hit the lottery?

Too funny! I have Enell bras and have a different problem - the 6263737382& hooks up the front and then getting it off when you're hot and sweaty. Always something I guess. :)

Have you ever tried putting one of these on while you were still damp from the shower?!?! Talk about a workout! The whole thing rolls over itself in the back and you have to be a contortionist to get it on the right way.... then you have to do all of the moves you'd do on a normal day to adjust it - but while its sticking to you from being damp. UGH! Sometimes I contemplate the benefits of this struggle vs. the possibility of getting a black eye! lol

I so need a new sports bra (or two or three). The worst is that you have to finagle yourself when you're still half asleep! Ha!

Good luck at the pub! You'll be just fine!!
