Four very good words to describe how I am starting to feel. Ugh.
Last week's excuse - I had a nasty cold (which was true)
Yesterday's excuse - the power went out and I *had* (HA!) to go out to dinner with a friend instead of doing a workout
Today's excuse - well, there really is none. I always go to Yoga and kickboxing on a Tuesday night, it's written in my calendar, so I can't use the "I have something else to do" excuse. So I'm just going to go.

Luckily, I have been reading some very inspiring blogs about some awesome accomplishments - HMs, PRs, dropped #s, jeans tucked into boots... all really great things about being fit and healthy that I have missed out on this week. Decided to run a 5K on October 16th - a women's 5K. I need to get back on the training ball.

So today:
- drink tons of water
- GO TO THE GYM for after-school classes
- think of some new goals... if I have time, update my goal tracker to reflect these new goals
- be positive
- clean up the kitchen and pack tomorrow's lunch
- get gym clothes ready for tomorrow morning - it's going to be a bit of a crazy morning, I have a faculty meeting, but I am determined to make it to the gym before school tomorrow.

Off to get some water in me... have a super Tuesday!

I find it to be a wonderful way to leave the school stresses behind.

I am super tired this morning. It's probably a combination of the return to caffeinated coffee over the weekend and the wine I had with dinner last night... but my sleep was NOT good. I woke up this morning after hitting the snooze three times, and I don't feel refreshed at all. Bleh.
I can't decide which is worse - the headaches from no caffeine or the tiredness from too much. This morning my coffee is half regular and half decaf - this week's experiment.

Tonight I am finally getting my rear end to the gym. Last week was an off-week because of a nasty cold, and it felt really good to be a little lazy. But it's back to it. Feeling jiggly and I don't like it. "Intensity" class tonight - I'm preparing for a major butt-kicking.

- Track all my food
- Drink tons of water
- Stay positive
- Take an inventory of household items so I can do a big Target trip on Wednesday

Yesterday was the most wonderfully lazy day of football, a little cooking, and napping. A perfect Fall day.

But today, it's time to get this body moving!

What I've learned

Friday, September 24, 2010

Holy moly four days of no coffee seems like an eternity. I decided to try this little experiment this week because I just wasn't feeling it with coffee. Went with the tea. So what I've learned:

- I slept MUCH better with no coffee in the morning (which was surprising, since I don't have *that* much).
- I wasn't tired during the day - I was able to function normally.
- I got a KILLER headache on Wednesday - the worst I have ever had. Part caffeine withdrawal, part sinus infection/cold... but it was BAD.
- After I took some drugs for my headache, it got better, but I've had a dull headache ever since. Not sure what is causing it...
- Last night I decided that I was going to have some coffee this morning. I actually *wanted* it. And today it tastes delicious.

The Action Plan:
- cut back on days with caffeine, maybe alternate between caf and decaf.
- don't feel like I have to have coffee every day just because I feel like I should. I don't have to make it every day if I don't feel like it.

I am FINALLY feeling better. There's a little residual nose stuff going on, but other than that, I feel great. I'm going to spend tonight on the couch (it's Friday, so I was going to do that anyway), and drink lots of water. I am pleased that my cold only (only?) lasted one week - I think my increased overall fitness and wellness has made my immune system strong and it's able to fight stuff off a lot more quickly than if I hadn't been taking care of myself so well.

I'm glad I listened to my body and took the week off from the gym. At first I felt guilty because "you can exercise when it's above the chest!" But my body was telling me otherwise. It took a good friend to remind me to listen to my body and take care of it - not to feel guilty about it. So I feel good and I'm ready to go on Sunday. Tomorrow's workout will be walking around Washington DC at the National Book Fair. There are lots of great author signings, and I LOVE DC.

When I first got off coffee I had the same surprising results as you did. Now I only drink coffee intermittently (like this morning) just because I want it. And, like you, I used to only have a cup a day, nothing crazy!

I find that without coffee I get more water into me!

That is a mantra I must start listening to better. Take breaks, take a day off from exercising. I too though have been feeling great and I guess attribute to a strong immune system or something. Knock on wood I haven't been sick in quite a while. I better not jinx myself. Have a nice night vegging. I will be doing that too- AND going to bed early. RACE DAY tomorrow.

Listening to your body is a good plan! Sometimes you just need some down time. You're going to get all rested up and be back at it as good as new next week! I'm glad you're feeling better!

Caffeine doesn't really keep me awake, but I can tell when I don't have it...I get the headaches, too. However, I've been pretty much away from it for a while now...I have the occasional diet pop and cup of coffee, but even then it's usually decaf.

Day 4

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I can't believe I've gone all week without coffee. Since I've started drinking tea in the morning, I have been sleeping much better. When my honey comes home late from work, I hardly even wake up anymore. I haven't been hitting the snooze button as much, either.

Today I will:
- drink tons of water (cold is almost totally gone!)
- make Spanakopita
- Pack a lunch for tomorrow
- Clean out the fridge

Off to get started on my water...

More rest...

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Still sick. I've gone through more tissues than ever.

Listened to my body and didn't go to the gym tonight. Looks like it's turning into a rest week... which is not necessarily a bad thing. Sleeping in tomorrow morning - need as much rest as possible.

Biggest Loser!!!!
