Tonight was upper body night at the gym. My trainer gave me some exercises when I started and called them "Arnolds" because they are what "Ah-nold" is famous for. They are really tough, but they are really effective.
Got a book at the library - Strength Training for Dummies. I'm looking to change up my weight routine a little bit.
Today was such a beautiful day. It was about 70 degrees. I am READY for spring! I am actually looking forward to skirts and sleeveless shirts! I may have to ramp up the cardio, though. I can see definition forming in my arms, but I need to get rid of the flab. Maybe I will examine my nutrition chart and see where I can improve it. I've been going slightly over on my fat intake and not enough protein. I guess I'll have to start eating more black beans and change my cereal milk to skim. I don't drink milk plain anymore, so I think I could handle skim on my cereal. I may also have to sacrifice my butter on my toast in the morning since I do not want to give up the half and half in my coffee.
Off to fold some laundry...

    Somehow I missed this post.... I'm *really* curious about what an Arnold is! (A little hint?) ;-)

Flab... yes, flab. Flab. (What can I say about it?) Warm weather clothing certainly makes us aware of it, no? (Also mirrors and unflattering photos.) :-)

I've also changed my dairy a bit to cut the fat/be able to have more of the dairy. That pesky nutrition calculator is pretty useful, isn't it? :-)

Sushi and the City

Last night my fiance and I spent the evening in New York City. We went to a sushi event and stayed the night in a fun little hotel in the meatpacking district. It was SO nice. I got a lot of walking in, lots of water, and lots of wonderful food. One of the really great parts about the dinner is that there were five courses, but they were all tasting courses. SO GOOD. Hors d'oevres were oysters ceviche, scallops, octopus, and a corn soup. The oysters were so good. I wasn't sure if I'd like them, but they were delicious.
There was a scale in the hotel, and since it was weigh-in night, I got on it just to see what it would say. It read that I lose two pounds this week! Now I know it's not the scale I usually use, so I don't think I'm going to enter it (although it would allow me to get the new "Lost 15 Pounds with Sparkpeople" picture). Maybe I'll weigh myself at the gym tonight just to see if it was close.
I haven't been to the gym since Monday... I am looking forward to going tonight and getting back into it. My body got a nice break, though.
Spring is coming!

Back to school

Yesterday was a nice day off, and now I'm ready to go back to school and think SPRING!!! Last weekend my fiance helped me shorten some pants (he measured) that had gotten too long. I got them back from the dry cleaner yesterday (I can *not* sew) and they are a little bigger on me since I took them in last week! I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but they sure seem bigger than I remember. I'm not going to shorten them again when they get too long; I think by that time I'll be ready for some new Spring pants.
My butt and thighs are aching today. All those lunges on Saturday really did a number on me! I think tonight I'll do some light cardio and maybe some abs stuff. Yesterday my fiance said "I think you should take tomorrow off." I NEVER thought anyone would actually have to tell me to take a day off from the gym! But Tuesdays are the nights I can actually get to the gym regularly. Wednesdays are hit and miss, and this Thursday we are going to NYC for a sushi dinner. So I want to make sure I get some sort of workout in today.
I tried on some skirts yesterday and noticed that my calves look much better than they did, especially from the front. I love this lifestyle change!!!

I didn't like doing lunges and squats at first, but boy howdy, they *do* produce results, don't they?

Swimming on a snow day?!?!?!?

Over the weekend, I worked hard at the gym. I definitely still felt it this morning when I woke up. Swimming is my "easy" cardio since it doesn't put any stress on my joints. I love it! I swam for 30 minutes today. Yesterday I bought ear plugs and a swim cap, so I could go much longer today than I used to be able to.
We didn't get that much snow, and it all blew away and melted off the road earlier this afternoon. It was so nice to get to the gym early again!
Doing really well with my calorie intake. I'm getting better at eying up how many calories something has. For lunch today, I made salads to go with our homemade pizza (YUM) and since I crumbled up a little bacon on the salads, I didn't add the walnuts. When I entered the salads in the calorie counter, I saw that keeping the walnuts off the salad today was a good idea. Those little 50-100 calorie "extras" really add up!
Off to watch some Oprah... it's about de-cluttering, and my fiance and I are working on ridding our lives of so much "stuff." I'm going to have some delicious black grapes with my Oprah!

    Oh, swimming sounds like fun. I used to be on a swim team when I was a kid, and I loved it. It really makes your body look long and lean.
Sounds like you're doing some pretty healthy stuff in all aspects of your life, missy. You should be proud.

Snow is on its way!

According to the radar, the snow should be coming around 6ish. I don't think it's going to amount to much, but maybe a snow day tomorrow...? One more this season would be nice.
Went to the gym late morning today. It was such a nice time to go. I'm looking forward to summer when I can go in the late morning. I had enough time to digest my breakfast, and when I came home, I was hungry enough for a very delicious lunch. My fiance made an open faced sandwich with a bean burger, avocado, and egg on top of some bread. I put some hot sauce on it. MMMM. It doesn't sound all that good, but it was delicious.
I worked on my legs today. They feel wobbly because I did lunges with weights, squats with calf raises and a dumbbell, and some other hard things. I've been at this lifestyle change thing for 2 months now, so I think it's time to get a little more intense at the gym. I've been running more and adding more incline to my walking. Yesterday I did upper body, and I can still feel it this afternoon. It's a good feeling.
I have to finish writing a paper tonight, and then I'm done with one more class towards my master's degree. It's going so quickly! I have been writing more papers than I ever thought I'd have to write.
