Thought this was cute . . . and sooooo depicts my DH's headspace right now. He is absolutely fried at work. This morning when he left for work, he had to turn around and come back to get his wallet, keys and watch that he'd left without.
I have to drive to the big city today so it will be a long, busy one. My schedule will be out of whack and I will be out of my comfortable rut. It's always a challenge to stay on plan during these upsets in schedule. It's much easier to find excuses to do otherwise.
Although we will be stay-cationing (staying at home, rather than going away for vacation), we will be taking day trips. Sunday will be a fun one. It's DH's daughter's birthday and we're riding with her & her DH to the coast for lunch. We'll probably go to our fav Mexican restaurant . . . and I absolutely LOVE their chips and salsa. Knowing that, I am already prepared with a good menu choice. . . and I will also drink a lot of water.
I love the challenge, because I know I am putting myself to the test. I can remain a slave to my appetite . . . . or I can honor my health and body by finding ways to succeed -- perhaps by eating smaller quantities, so I don't feel deprived, or simply by making better choices. If everyone else is sitting around enjoying chips and salsa, I know I'll feel bummed if I'm sitting there sucking on a lemon with a bad attitude. So, the choice is up to me.

I'm still going strong. Had a great weekend!!! So thankful to get through the weekend without a gain showing on the scale. And it is a bit surprising . . . not only did I enjoy the BBQ on the 4th, but I've been OD-ing on fruit all weekend (if there is such a thing)!! With all this fresh, sun-ripe fruit, I am not feeling a bit guilty. (Think forward 6 months when all we can find is apples with taste and texture like cardboard.) The watermelons have been awesome this Summer . . . and the nectarines, peaches, apricots, black cherries .. . . oh, yummmmm!
This morning I enjoyed some fresh raspberries from my back yard . . . I'm really looking forward to the blackberries. Last year we had an over-abundance of plump, juicy, sweet blackberries. By the end of the Summer, I started giving them away because our freezer was maxed out. I have one bag of frozen blackberries left . . . and I'd better use them soon because I noticed some are already starting to turn.
With all this outdoor activity, I'm really thankful my shoulder/back/neck is not protesting. Each day this past weekend, I spent several hours outside working around the property. . . . dragging and stacking limbs DH trimmed from our trees, spraying RoundUp on poison oak, etc. (We want to make the 200 feet from our house 'defensible' from possible fire hazards which means under trimming the trees, clearing brush, etc., etc., etc.)
DH drained the pond and the koi are really happy to see the sunshine again. We also released into the bigger pond two baby koi that have 'graduated' from the small pond by our front door. Since being released, they've been happily checking out their new territory. Next time he drains the pond, we'll separate the water irises and lilies. They are in full bloom right now and absolutely gorgeous.
Our pond and overflow area seem to be providing a very nurturing environment. The mosquito fish seem to be doing their job, too, cos we've not been over-run by mosquitoes. We have been spotting little Pacific Tree frogs all over the lawn, and lots of lizards darting in and around the rocks around the pond. We've seen a lot of butterflies, and several smaller blue dragonflies as well as some larger red ones. There is a weird looking something or other afixed to a plant near the waterfall . . . .DH says it is transitioning from that stage into a dragonfly. How cool!!! (I know nothing about dragonflies and will have to do some research.)
This morning while trimming the grapevines and preparing a spot to transplant a tree and some native grasses, the little fawn stopped by for a cool sip of water. It's so adorable to watch it maneuvering through the woods with its spindly legs, and then go bounding away through the brush. I tossed the grape vine trimmings over the fence so it could have some green stuff to munch on. It flicked and twitched its little white flag tail . . . . I like to think it was saying thank you.
Enough rambling on, how was your weekend?
