1 Year Sparkaversary

Thursday, January 16, 2014

So today is my 1 year anniversary on Spark, time to review:
1. I'm still active on the site
2. At one point was down 26 lbs, but am at 20 now.
3. Hope to stay focused and loose 20 lbs this year
4. Signed up for the MS 150 ride in July, a good goal
5. Found many wonderfully supportive friends here on Spark.

Thank you Spark People!

Congratulations on losing 20 pounds that you won't be carrying around during your next SparkYear! Losing the weight takes patience and perseverance. You know what you're doing and you have what it takes to do it again to reach your goal.

2013, was a good start, 2014 will be even better

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

After my return from Nigeria, I had a flu and was knocked down for a couple of days, I had also actually gained weight!!! Was not so good during Thanksgiving regarding my diet & exercise. Then had a sudden onset of severe Colitis, which sent me to the hospital, I am finally off the various antibiotics, still not sure what caused it, back to the Drs next week, hoping that it was a souvenir from Nigeria (that would actually be the best result). On the good side I lost the weight that I gained (not the way to do it).

So at the end of the year I'm down 2o lbs, hoping to at least match that in 2014. Looking at buying a spinning bike for home. Hubby and son are great and I am counting all the blessing that I am so fortunate to enjoy, especially the love of my friends & family.

Here's hoping you all have a great New Year!

That was not suppose to happen, back from Nigeria

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Back from Nigeria, the people there are wonderful, my preconceived ideas were all thrown out the window. We immunized over 3500 children, supplied a birthing clinic with tons of supplies, gave 50 hand-crank wheel chairs to polio survivors and, commissioned a bridge, 3 room school, water bore hole and toilets for a small village, which we provide funding for.

On the down side, I weighed 4 lbs heavier on my return....I din't like the food(way too spicy) and mostly ate protein bars and drank gatorade. I also have a nasty flu/cold. I did have a flu shot before leaving, but it was obviously not for the same strain. (this too shall pass).

Funny things said to me on my return:
1. Hubby at airport "Honey, I love you, but you look like H@!!" and I did.
2. Immigration officer " Where are you coming from"
me "Nigeria"
IO "Pleasure or Business?"
me "Does anyone go to Nigeria for vacation?"
IO "true"
3. Friend on my flu "were you around anyone with a flu or cold?'
me "yeah like 3000 snotty face kids, seriously"

team leader, who is a Polio survivor, being guided on a foot path for the 2 mile walk to a small village.

Catching up on some of my SF blogs. Impressed with your mission! How admirable. I am a nurse but have not done anything of this nature. What group did you go with? Hope you are feeling better! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Thank you for doing what you just did. We take so much for granted in this country; it's nice to be reminded how we can make a positive impact in the lives of others.

So Excited, leaving tomorrow...

Sunday, November 03, 2013

Have you every been so excited that you feel like you are shaking inside with anticipation? I wonder if that energy is burning any calories, wouldn't that be great.
Tomorrow I leave for Nigeria, another medical mission trip. It's interesting that I am so excited for this trip, I've done plenty of these, but I am especially excited for this trip. I've been to Kenya a couple of times, this is the first time to Nigeria.

One of the team members is taking a GPS tracking device so our families can see where we are. I have my protein bars and Gatorade powdered, and today I will start my anti-malaria pills. So I will be off the grid for the next two weeks. Hope to drop 5 pounds while I'me there (to make up for the five I found when we went to Maine last month).

Take care Sparkies, see you in 2 weeks.

Finally back to blogging

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Well, I have been Sparking, just haven't found the time to blog. I finally broke the diet coke habit, it will be 2 weeks on Monday emoticon . I am sleeping so much better, that was a happy surprise. I was finally ready, water it is for me.
Have been amazing busy with so many things. My eating is fairly good, but my formal exercise has decreased. first was going to the chiropractor 3 times a week for 2 hour sessions and working on one of my rental houses and lastly my volunteer work.

We had a great time in Maine, and now I am getting ready to head to Nigeria. Will be giving Polio vaccinations to children. I fully anticipate loosing a couple of pounds while there, as I will be living mostly on protein bars. I will be doing a lot of walking while in the villages. Our team consists of 1 person from Hong Kong, 3 Canadians and 7 Americans from different states. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Frankfurt then on to Abuja. Hubby is not happy about this trip, as some vaccinators have been murdered there. While this trip does have me slightly nervous, I am confident that our security will be well covered. While there I don't anticipate having internet so no SP emoticon . I leave in 2 weeks, the anticipation is building!

Have a fantastic day!

I bet Maine is just beautiful this time of year. I've always wanted to go there.

safe travels and I'm sure you will make some new friends.

It is kind of tough to not have Spark access. Feels like a piece of you is missing. But we will be here when you return with great travel stories!
