Monday Doctor's Appointment

I had a bit of good news at my doctor's appointment Monday. I have outpatient surgery next week, and the appointment was my consultation. The scale didn't move from my last visit, but my blood pressure was the lowest it's been in more than five years, 117/76. I was surprised. I don't have a lot of weight to lose compared to some people, and by blood pressure rises under stress even though I exercise and eat a healthy diet. It was good to see that it was low.

I started a new exercise program this month because I had a plateau. My waist finally hit 29 inches after changing my workout. I managed this despite a lot of personal stresses.

This past year has had a lot of lows in my life, but exercise helped me manage them. I missed my weigh loss goal by 10 lbs.; however, I lost 5 inches on my waist and 5 inches on my hips. I saw my old butt again. One day I even said, ďHello, old friend.Ē My little girl even said I look happier. She thinks Iím beautiful no matter what, but this year, she tells me Iím pretty multiple times a day.

I sent a picture of myself to my mother at the end of last month, and she said I looked like I was getting younger. Yesterday, a stranger told me I looked healthy. I havenít heard those words in a long time. In my early 20ís, it would have bothered me not to reach my weight loss goal. At that time, I was at an ideal weight but never felt confident. Now, I donít necessarily like what I see in the mirror every day, but when I play with my daughter or walk 5 miles on the treadmill, I remember that itís more than the numbers. I feel like I can do things I havenít done in about 5 or more years.

I have always maintained my weight in good times, but stress from other things had a way of derailing me. I feel like this time is for real because I got healthy at a time when a lot of things in my life have not gone so well.

Next year, I plan to continue my progress and earn a certification in at least one field of fitness.



Rainy Days

I managed to get an hour of Zumba in today. It was rainy and dreary, one of those days you really want comfort food. I made homemade chili with lean ground meat. I did have a cup of hot cocoa with two marshmallows. Ah! The warmth of a hot drink.
