LA Fitness Shooting!! 5 DEAD!!

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I just got home from my zumba and seen on the news that another gym, about an hr from me, Bridgeville, PA was shot up tonight =( The dood went into an aerobic class... turned off the lights - and started shooting!! Witnesses said that it seemed like 20-30 shots were fired, at least!!!! The shooter did kill himself as well, and naturally they are seeking answers by the second... 9 or more shot - 4 dead!!!! (5 including the shooter) Assuming it is a lovers' quarrel gone bad.... What a shame!!

Keep the victims families as well as all witnesses in your thoughts over this trying time!!! Definitely a heart wrenching story!!!

sad news..i will keep them in my thoughts and prayers,
PRESIDENTSWIFE 10/29/2009 9:29PM

This was such a terrible story and the man was very extremely disturbed. :( These poor people. emoticon emoticon
NICOLETTEDIMON 8/5/2009 8:29AM

It made me so sick to my stomach to see/hear this. 52 total shots were fired and he was going after his ex-girlfriend. Did you hear the instructor was pregnant and it was her last class teaching before having the baby? She lived, but could you imagine the scare? Unbelievable. Doug was just telling me that his blog was still active this morning (they hadn't banned access yet) and he mentioned he tried to do it many times and couldn't bring himself to shooting them. But, he hated women anyway because supposedly so many rejected him. Definitely lots of prayers go out to them. I couldn't imagine going to a class and dealing with that :(

This is another example of why guns should be banned except for police.
HIPPICHICK1 8/4/2009 10:53PM

Wow. This is so sad and tragic. My prayers go out to everyone involved. What a pity there are people in this world in so much pain they feel the only way out is to shoot a bunch of innocent people and then themselves.
SHININGTHRU126 8/4/2009 10:22PM

That's awful - all are in my prayers.
MSDIAMOND600 8/4/2009 10:10PM

OMG! That is terrible!!! I was also at LA Fitness today in CT taking my Spin Class. What's crazy is that the lights wouldn't go off today and I heard they wouldn't go off yesterday either. My prayers are with them.

When will it get better?

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

I don't blog much - but I need to vent!! Here's some history.... I had my first son at the age of 15 and he has lived w/ the Gramma on his dad's side since he was 2.. I always paid support, about $250 a month, but when you only make $10 an hr, have a partially paralyzed husband, and a son that lives with us too - $250 was alot.

Well late last fall the older sons' dad got outta prison, where'd he'd spent 90% of his adult life, and the gramma hands him custody!! PA state laws are tuff on child support - they can take 55% of your income!!! (at the same time, I only get $20/mo from Tre's dad for him!! - So lose-lose for me!) He took me thru the courts, and my child support flew to $650 a month!!! (do the math - 40h @ $10 = $400 gross - taxes take another hundred, he gets $150 - I get $160.

What kept me going is the fact that I sell concrete additives and summer was around the corner... Tho it's only 2% commissions; it helps and I was looking forward to it soooo much!! I knew, if i could get a few good commissions - some could be put back to carry us on the winter months, and he is almost 17 and will graduate in 2 yrs -- so it is temporary!! I was really trying to stay optimistic - glass half full and all that!!

This is JULY and my commissions are (wouldn't ya know) down 80%!! I have this big acct - 60% of my sales came from this one acct!!! We had (what I thought to be) great rapport, and I really depended on them!! All year, they too, were down on sales, and she kept saying "next month" then in April she determined it'd prolly be July... I was counting the days to their big order.. Quoted them a week or two ago and never heard back :( Emailed them Monday to see what the status was -- never heard back (i had a hunch) So today, I nonchalantly emailed them asking if they got my last email - I told her I didn't see it in my sent folder and thought maybe it didn't come thru. She promptly replied and said she was sorry, but we were beat out on price.... I gave her my BOTTOM BARREL price!! Tho, had I known - I could've went to the boss about it, and attempt to accommodate - I told her this and she replied that she was so sorry - it was outta her hands and she didn't even know the bosses were price shopping.

I LOST IT - It takes alot for me to shed a tear and this did it!! My sales are so far in the hole already and now this - My biggest acct - GONE - POOF along with at LEAST $5-6K a year in commissions ON TOP of the 55% that junkee is taking!!

My DH and I bought our first home last August -- nothing fancy, a little 1.5 story home on a small lot - It was under what we wanted to stay under, so we took out another small loan for a fence for our girls (fur children) Between the mortgage and that payment it's about $700 a month... and I AM NOT BRINGING EVEN THAT IN!!My DH gets $975 in disability and tho it does help - it's just not enough to......... LIVE!!!!!!

I am just sick - IDK what the heck I am gonna do - or if I even CAN do anything - that prick won't budge to agree on anything - nor will the judge - They said even if I make $10K LESS it'd only go down $20/mo WTF>!>! Once again, middle class gets screwed!!

If you are still reading my rant -- thank you for listening and sorry to bore you so long.... I am just devastated.... So if anyone knows how I could make some spare money please lmk... Right about now I am up for anything (well almost. ;) I am at my wits end!!

It WILL get better.. promise. Have faith and keep your head up. Trust me.. I've been there.. I know what it's like. It's not easy at all.. not at all. Thank Him for everything that you do have and keep on living... emoticon
JENNTINYSAM 7/23/2009 10:58AM

WOW. I think you need to go to the courts and ask for a change in the support that you have to pay. What the heck were they thinking giving a convict custody anyway. Maybe the grandparents think they are too old and he needs a caregiver. If this is too personal please tell me why did you never take him back after you got older and on your feet? Hang in there things seem to get better when you think that they arent going too.

We have found that here just when we think that nothing is going to go right that things start to get better.

HUGS
GERBALMAMMA 7/22/2009 9:36PM

I am so sorry to hear you couldn't get a better arrangement. I hope you can take it one day at a time. I'll be praying for you!!!!
GLAZED-DONUT 7/22/2009 7:29PM

wow - my heart just broke for you as I read....
I would be devastated! i wish I knew of something that could make you some extra cash quick... but notta lotta with everyone cutting back.

First thing I suggest is going to your mort. co. and just be honest about your sitchy - ask what can be do to lower your mortgage.
If you have any outstanding credit cards - do the same with them so you dont get eaten with over-due fees --

I guess the only option is to get a second job asap - it sucks, its not forever, but you just have to - maybe a salary job instead of commissions - right now commission jobs are LOW for obv. reasons!

Other than that -- just cut back as much as you can, no frills groceries, no dinning out, cut back on the a/c, and any other expense you do not need such as cell phones, cable tv, those kind of luxuries that right now you just cant afford to keep.

I KNOW IT SUX - Ive been here... (hugs).
It WILL get better.
(hugs)

My heart goes out to you and I'm extremely sorry that you are going through soo much right now. One thing that I've started was cleaning houses to bring in extra income. My job has been cutting back hours and the bills still need to be paid. Know that you are NEVER alone and that we are always hee to listen.
BELIEVE-IN-ME 7/22/2009 12:42PM

I'm with Nicolettedimon...my heart just poured out all over the place as I read your blog. I find you so determined and strong and you're on of the people I look to for inspiration and strength. You're in my thoughts and prayers...

LIGHTNINGRUNNER 7/22/2009 12:36PM

I wish I could say more, than I am so sorry. I can't believe you can't go to the court and get a new judge to look at the arrangement - Not sure how it works. Not that you want to increase income, because the courts would probably take more of it, but is it possible to pickup something on the side to help you live???

Wish I could do or say more. I am moree than willing to listen to your vents anytime.
NOCALORIES 7/22/2009 12:27PM

Hello! I realize I am just your teammate who read your blog and wishes to let you know that you have vented at the right place. Hoping you are feeling better after you typed this blog. I know no answers to your challenge. I do acknowledge your strength in striving to survive. I welcome you to release your frustrations and add me as your friend if you desire.

CHANGES!!

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Firstly, Nic and I hit the ZUMBA class again tonight and I've been so amazed with my calorie burning potential since going there (in comparison to Turbo Jam; etc) I burn at LEAST 100 more calories.... FOr example, as you can see on my exercise logs, I normally burn ALMOST 300 calories with a 45+ minute TJ workout... My first Zumba I hit like 386 -- 2nd 398!! AND TONIGHT I set a new record with 438!!!!!!!!!!! and 55% of those were FAT calories!!!

I am beginning to luv the push - the shove - the sweat and the results... It's odd cuz my measurements haven't changed much ANYWHERE but i see differences - The pants I wore today I could not even button in February and now, in May, they are baggy and loose *(and comfy ;)

CHANGE IS GOOD!!

For example -- I am PMS'g now (*real close)* and tho I do have fibrocystic breasts which are very painful, the cramps and bloating are normally so bad I bump a size and feel 10lbs heavier.... they are not near as bad as usual... and another thing that I am amazed with already - I have taken laxatives of some sort almost daily since my methadone days... NOW I actually have a BM after EACH MEAL!!! With NO laxatives/supplements; etc...ENERGY -- ahhh I LUV IT!!! Acne, only hormonal for the last 2 months and pretty clear between...

Who'da thunk it.... DIET AND EXERCISE was the key to ALOT of my problems... Now if I could just get it to clean my house and laundry I'd be straight ;) LOL!!

Thanks for reading :)

The body is an amazing thing! Isn't it? Zumba is sooo much fun! I love taking it as well. Have you ever tried a live Turbo Kick class (vs TurboJam)...you will definitely burn more calories. I seem to burn way more when I teach it. I taught it tonite and burned 723 calories! Woo-hoo....it felt great...and I kept it up by having a home made smoothie (I just got my 1st Shakeology shipment and I was very anxious to try it out) that was very nutritious and low in calories. Keep us posted on any more changes you see as a result of your fitness journey! Keep in touch! Claudia
RUN_LIFT_EAT 5/29/2009 9:36AM

It is amazing how resilient the body is if we take care of it! Good for you, girl!

And hey, it doesn't hurt your feelings that formerly pants tights are baggy, bonus!

I want to try Zumba, My gym doesn't offer it, yet. . . they are usually pretty on board with the latest trends so hopefully they'll get it.
DTONEY76 5/28/2009 5:49PM

You should be extremely proud of your excellent progress. Keep up the GREAT work and I wish I could join you with you Zumba classes. BURN BABY BURN! emoticon
NICOLETTEDIMON 5/28/2009 1:56PM

I am so proud of you hon! In so many ways, I am proud of you!
BEESPARKLE 5/28/2009 9:56AM

Go girl. I am happy for you. emoticon
LFLFLPLP 5/28/2009 6:43AM

Isn't it amazinging how many changes you never expected that happen? I think that is part of what keeps me going even besides the losing weight, I just feel more healthy. I definitely noticed the change in cramping.

Glad you are seeing changes. You are doing great! I really have to try that Zumba!
