This is definitely it!

Sunday, June 30, 2013

I am back and I feel differently about it this time, this is it! Got my health fair results in on Friday and the numbers are not what I was expecting. I am all in and taking no prisoners this time. My goal is to lose 37 lbs by 12/7 when I leave on my cruise and I definitely know I can do this. My focus is to really dial in on keeping the data and analyzing the results, then making adjustments. I do this at work all the time so I should be able to do it on this "project". I am excited to get started and hope to find some support on spark along the way.
Enjoy your day!

I am a total data junkie. I love the feeling of power and control I get when I track everything and run all the numbers. I know you can do it if you stay focused and committed to all your tracking.

Reality check

Monday, June 04, 2012

Wow! Wellness Fair today at work, weighed, measured, needle stick and body fat analysis. 43.3% fat, unbelievable. Made me go back to check old data, lowest ever in 12 years was 36.6%. Seems I traded in 20 lbs of muscle for 20 pounds of fat even though I have lost 23 pounds since then! Enough of this, I need to turn this ship around starting today. This is my re-commitment to myself. Final and last because I will make this work. I have the time and the tools so I'm gonna have at it!

Whenever we lose weight, we lose muscle. It's just a simple fact. However, you can try to retain more muscle by doing some strength training. So if you aren't already on a good strength training schedule, try adding some to your usual routine.

South Beach

Monday, April 23, 2012

For the first time ever, I am doing a restrictive diet, the South Beach Diet. I read the whole book yesterday and thought I'd give it a try. Had to do some serious shopping and was surprised my debit card went through because I don't buy that many veggies usually! They have a fraud tracker on it that stops transactions that don't fit your spending pattern:) Let me know if any of you have had some success on the SB
Enjoy your day!

I haven't done South Beach, but I did Atkins several years ago. I lost a lot of weight pretty fast on it and then plateaued. The main things I remember were feeling gross from eating so much fat (something I think South Beach minimizes), having seriously bad breath all the time, and having dark green (almost black) stool that was hard and infrequent. Overall, I felt like all of these were signs that my body was not taking well to the diet. Maybe it would have improved when I advanced to the phases that allowed me to eat more veggies and fruits, but those weren't allowed much in the initial phases.

I'm not sure if South Beach works the same way as Atkins in trying to force your body int ketosis (starvation mode), but the main problem with ketosis is there is no room for cheating or slip-ups AT ALL. The moment you go over on your carbs and send your body out of ketosis, you pretty much have to start all over again to get back there, which takes about three days.

Flashback to a year ago

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Wow, my post exactly a year ago today. No progress, time to change that!
4/17/2011
Time for me to work on me. I've been dancing on Spark for a few years now with not a great amount of success in the weight loss department. Now that Hubby is in a better place after 7 months of hell, it's time for me to think of me. I got nothing but time and I need to start using it in ways that improve my life quality. I lost 17 pounds in the grieving process and although not the best way to lose it, I intend on keeping it off and losing more. I am starting over slowly just with increasing my water intake and getting that up to snuff. I so want this to be the year I leave the obese category. I am looking for a team small enough that you really get to know the people and the team stays active. I have been on alot of teams where everyone is gung ho, then silence. I need the structure of a well performing group. Anybody know of one?
Enjoy your day!

I'm sorry you had something that happened in your life to require grieving. Sucks doesn't it? You can keep it off and lose more, because you are starting back, even if slow. I'm into "natural" cures so that is the group I chose.
