November Results & December Goals

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Although I didn't quite make my weight loss goal of 182, I'm happy that I at least dropped 0.5# down from 183.5 to 183. Baby steps is what I'm taking as I work to get myself back on track.

So I'm at a new weight of 183 to start out December. My goals for the month are:

*Being consistent with water intake of 8 cups daily
*5 Daily servings of Freggies
*Keep a sleeping pattern of 7 hours minimum nightly
*Walking daily , reaching a weekly goal of 120 minutes to reestablish a workout program
*Reach a weight of 182

Ready to make this a month of new motivation & strategies.

Kitchen Re-Do

Sunday, November 30, 2014

Many of my spark buddies have asked to see before & after pictures of the kitchen remodel project my DH & I took on just before the Thanksgiving holiday. It was a lot of hard work on the weekends, and some long night trying to get it all done before Thanksgiving.

When my husband bought this house before we even started dating, it was an older house, the kitchen was the most outdated room in the house. So 16 years later we finally have gotten around to remodeling the kitchen, a very much needed redo.

Here are the before pictures:

And now for the after pictures.....

Definitely a night & day difference. emoticon

Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 29, 2014

This Thanksgiving was a little different but one that was a definitely good change. Each of our kids or their spouses prepared desserts &/or dishes to contribute to the family meal, so it was nice not to have to prepare an entire meal myself for a family of 18. We had deep fried turkey, roasted turkey & ham as well as all the fixings to go with it. I did well with limited myself to the high calorie dishes like dressing, potato salad & sweet potato casserole but also had a good amount of veggies like tomatoes, cukes, collards & butter beans as well as a taste of cranberry sauce. There was an assortment of desserts as well, but I did well in limiting myself to only a bit of a couple of different ones.
All in all, this was great dinner with family & much improved in my stacking on track compared to Thanksgiving a year ago.

That's the way to do it. We always do a pot luck meal when we get together. There's no reason one person should do all that work. It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is coming...

Thursday, November 13, 2014

So for week 2 of the BSG challenge, I was asked to blog about the holidays ---whether or not my menus are planned & if shopping is done.

I will focus my attention on the Thanksgiving holiday only since it's only 2 weeks away. Originally we had discussed having the family Thanksgiving dinner at our youngest son's home & letting everyone pitch in with bringing a dish or two of food. But now we have discussed it, since our house is slightly larger & more accommodating to a family of 22 to feed, we will keep our house as the location for our dinner. I will assign dishes for each of the kids to bring & I will fix every thing else. Our typical menu is: Ham, Turkey, Cornbread dressing & gravy, cranberry sauce, potato salad, apple-grape salad, collards, corn, butterbeans, sweet potato casserole & rolls & a tray of various pickled items as well as a plate of sliced tomatoes. I will be making a carrot cake for DH's birthday (Nov 23) so we will have that well as the desserts our DDs & DILs will provide. emoticon

As far as the shopping, I have put down to take off the 2 days prior to Thanksgiving, so that's when I will do my shopping & start prepping for the meal. I like to make my cornbread the night before so it will be ready for when I start making the dressing on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday as it al about being thankful for the blessings & sharing out hearts with one another. We each tell something we are thankful for before sharing a meal.

I hope your Thanksgiving is blessed as well. emoticon

That's so great that all of you can get together for Thanksgiving! I'm sure this Thanksgiving will be extra special with the one DS, wife and kids that are now living close to all of you and will get to be there to share in family time. I think it's a great idea for everyone to share something that they are grateful for this year before eating! Great family tradition!! I'm sure it will be a wonderful Thanksgiving!

October Results & November Goals

Wednesday, November 05, 2014

October seems a bit of a blur for my results, but I did manage to lose 3#s by the end of the month. Guessing mostly fluid weight as I haven't really been keeping up with my nutrition tracking & exercise seemed to be hit or miss.

So I'm at a new weight of 183.5 to start out November. My goals for the month are:

*Being consistent with water intake of 8 cups daily

*Keep a sleeping pattern of 7 hours minimum nightly
*Walking daily , reaching a weekly goal of 120 minutes to reestablish a workout program

I'm glad now though, that you'll have your exercise room back so you can reestablish an exercise program. I've been doing better about the sleep and am hoping we'll both continue to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. I think you have set some really good and yet attainable goals for November! I have not doubt you'll be successful in attaining your goals this month! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

October was a blur for me, too, Donna! I like your goals and will do some similar ones for myself. I know the sleeping one is probably the toughest for both of us. I am starting a meditation program that I will have access to on my phone. If I wake up In the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, I am going to turn it on instead of getting up at 3 or 4 AM! Being on the same team with you this month, let's encourage each other on a daily basis to keep working at our goals. emoticon emoticon emoticon
