Back to school time ---BSG Sensational Sisters Blog 3

Thursday, August 21, 2014

So the blog challenge for week 3 of the Sensational Sisters team is to blog about "How does the "Back To School" time affect you? Do you have your partake in any of the back to school grillouts or parties?

For me it isn't a factor now as all of our children are now grown & on their own so there's no back to school shopping or parties to schedule. I do remember those days thought when we had 5 in school, oh my what an expensive time of year with new school clothes & supplies & then having to pay the school fees. I surely don't miss all that expense. Of course now with our grandkids in school, they all now have school uniforms so as the need arises I will contribute as needed to the cost of their uniforms.

Thanks for the comments. I hear friends who have small children still in school say how they are spending $300-500 PER CHILD. Oh my, I couldn't imagine having to do that with even more than one much less the 5 we raised.

I work at a State Primary School and by the time the parents
buy uniforms, school fees and the book lists, I often wonder
how they manage. My neighbour has 3 kids and she says
they are struggling on one wage. Glad I don't have to worry
about these things. I do feel for parents today. emoticon

I can't even imagine having 5 kids in school at one time; I had 3 and that was enough as costly as it all was. I am sure your kids appreciate any help you can provide your grandkids. I know I am grateful to be out of the back to school scenario!

We all got hand-me-downs so very little expense there (new clothes at Christmas as part of our Santa gift.....)
and there was no fees (can you believe we got our textbooks free? ! ) at the school I went to so I don't think it was too bad for Mom and Dad.... but just the school supplies of pens, exercise books, etc could do a large family in.

Donna, we sing the same song ... my kids are grown and out on their own so now I don't have to worry about back to school activities and expenses. However, I do pitch in as much as I can to help with my grandkids' back to school expenses.
Enjoy as much time as you can with the grandkids now because they grow up so fast!

I can't say I miss the elementary, Middle School or High School back-to-school shopping ordeal.

DD is in college, and there are supplies to get, but it's not as torturous, because there isn't SPECIFIC items needed.

Enjoy your grandies!

How do I cope with the August heat???

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

So this week's blog challenge for the Sensational SIsters team is about the high temperatures of August & how I cope with them.

Well this has been an usual August of sorts. In fact it has rained EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past 3 or 4 weeks. So much rain in fact that several communities have flooding issues & some of the roadways there have had to be closed due to standing water. My activities pretty much are limited to inside ---walking in the mall or using my wii. doing some SP Strength Training Exercises. Although I do not miss the 100+ temps, I do miss being able to spend my afternoons &/or weekends out in the sunshine.

Although the temps aren't extreme this summer here, I do always keep ice cold water on hand, aiming for a daily goal of 10 cups daily.

Whatever the weather is, making "ME" a priority is important in reaching my SP Healthy goals. emoticon

This summer has been strange here also. Only fifteen days of temperatures in the 90's with those high heat indexes. It has been cool the past few days. But the heat is coming back Monday and Rain tomorrow and over the weekend.

Hope you have a great day and you get some sunshine soon. emoticon

Yet another reason to take charge of my health....

Friday, August 08, 2014

August 7, 2014 will be a special day for me to always remember. My precious little granddaughter Kylie Brooke came in our lives & hearts. A couple of months before her birth, we were given a scare, the DR thought the ultrasound showed fluid on her brain. But I'm so thankful to say she is a perfectly healthy little girl who definitely has given then Nana one more reason to take charge of my own health. Although she is very small right now, just being 6 lbs & 8 ounces & 19" long at birth, I plan to have many years spoiling my little princess along with our other 6 grandchildren. Nana wants to make a lifetime of memories for these special ones.

July results & August Goals

Monday, August 04, 2014

July I started out @ a weight of 179.5. We had lots of family get togethers, also our son & his family moved in with us near the end of the month & I've even had to start taking insulin for my blood sugars as they are much too high.

Well the goal didn't happen, I actually gained another .5# up to 180. I was afraid of that, of course the last time I had tried the insulin I actually gained 10#s in 2 weeks. So as I work to get back on track & start loosing in August, my goals to accomplish this are:

*Getting to a weight of 178
*Getting 7 hours of quality sleep nightly
*10 cups of water daily
*5 servings of Freggies Daily
*Finding ways to fit exercise into my busy days

I'm ready to get back on track & STAY there. emoticon

emoticon goals. Isn't it frustrating to want to achieve our goals so much but have health issues that interfere? emoticon emoticon I did read recently that sleep can affect your insulin readings and I know you have been having problems with sleep. I hope you succeed in getting some good sleep and that your blood levels get where they should be! emoticon emoticon

Not going to let Diabetes win this one!

Sunday, July 20, 2014

It seems the past couple of weeks, high blood sugar has been trying to knock me down. I had tried everything to get it down to no avail & was a little stressed because the blood sugar was staying between 250-400 every time.

So yes, diabetes, you have my attention! Loud & Clear. So after tracking & being conscientious of everything I put in my mouth, finally I have one up on old Diabetes, My readings today have been in the 119 average range. emoticon That's reason to celebrate but only with healthy choices.

Today begins a new trek for me of being proactive about what & when eat as well as portion sizes. Not to mention, walking will be my new friend for relaxing & getting some exercise.

It's time to take control of my Diabetes & not allow it to win & control my healthy. Here's to keep on keeping on!

I agree with the cinnamon and nettles tea and also get some bitter melon too for the diabetes because is helps your body to regulate the sugar and makes the body use it better too.

I always remember that diabetes is like a 3-legged stool. The 3 legs on the stool of controlling our sugars are: meds, exercise, nutrition. If one is out of kilter, high sugars will read their ugly head. Glad things settled down a little bit for you.
