Not going to let Diabetes win this one!

Sunday, July 20, 2014

It seems the past couple of weeks, high blood sugar has been trying to knock me down. I had tried everything to get it down to no avail & was a little stressed because the blood sugar was staying between 250-400 every time.

So yes, diabetes, you have my attention! Loud & Clear. So after tracking & being conscientious of everything I put in my mouth, finally I have one up on old Diabetes, My readings today have been in the 119 average range. emoticon That's reason to celebrate but only with healthy choices.

Today begins a new trek for me of being proactive about what & when eat as well as portion sizes. Not to mention, walking will be my new friend for relaxing & getting some exercise.

It's time to take control of my Diabetes & not allow it to win & control my healthy. Here's to keep on keeping on!

I agree with the cinnamon and nettles tea and also get some bitter melon too for the diabetes because is helps your body to regulate the sugar and makes the body use it better too.

I'm so happy your numbers are down, I totally understand about Diabetes, my Dad is Diabetic, he has struggled but has prevailed, he turns 92 in October. I want you to know my prayers are with you and I stand with you cheering you on...I am trusting that things will continue to stay on track and you will have control over this situation...I believe you can... emoticon

That's great you got your numbers down. Try using
cinnamon and nettle tea as they help regulate the BS.
You will do this. emoticon emoticon

I always remember that diabetes is like a 3-legged stool. The 3 legs on the stool of controlling our sugars are: meds, exercise, nutrition. If one is out of kilter, high sugars will read their ugly head. Glad things settled down a little bit for you.

June Success & July Goals

Friday, July 11, 2014

Well I started out June @ 179.2 with the goal of reaching 176. Well, didn't make that goal, actually had a slight gain of 0.3#. I did well for the most part nutrition wise, but need to get back to exercising --consistently.

I know this is a bit late posting since we are 1/3 into the month, but better late than never I guess. This just has been a busy month already ---family in town for the 4th, losing a friend @ the age of 37 due to hemorrhagic strokes (2) & then my birthday on the 10th. But my goals are:

*Getting to a weight of 177
*Getting 7 hours of quality sleep nightly
*10 cups of water daily
*5 servings of Freggies Daily
*Incorporating exercise into my routine at least 5 days per week

I'm ready to get back on track & STAY there. emoticon

Stunning Strawberries Week 2 --- Father's Day

Thursday, June 12, 2014

For Father's day, we will be busy most of the early part of the day with our normal church services & then DH has to co-officiate a funeral for an elderly church member who passed on yesterday. Then perhaps later in the evening I can take him to his favorite restaurant for a special meal. I already know what he will order as he's so predictable, LOL. ---Prime Rib with a lobster tail on the side, baked potato & salad @ Outback. ( Did I mention, this is my favorite place too! emoticon ) . I will call my own dad & speak with him by phone. Currently he is living in SC but he & my mom & younger brother are searching for a place to move back to NC so they will be closer to myself & my 2 other siblings.

I guess the memory that sticks out the most of my father is not one of Father's Day as Daddy was always a hardworking man, never stopping to rest or have fun. But I recall one early morning, Mom had gone to work in the strawberry fields & I was still asleep. I awoke to hearing my father scream for help. When I got out to the field by the house, I learned that he was trying to hook up the disk to the tractor & the disk fell on his foot. My cousin across the street heard the screams & we were able to get Daddy untrapped & to the hospital where he foot was saved.
Not the best memory but one that is definitely still a reminder to cherish each moment.

You undoubtedly have a busy day planned. Hope you have a nice dinner and a great time together eating at Outback.

What a scary memory of the time your dad almost lost his foot. It's good to remember things like that because like you said it's reminds you to cherish every moment. I hope your parents can find a place to live in NC so that they are closer to you and your siblings.

Sounds like you will have a lovely Father's Day.
It's always to remember special moments.
My best memory is when we arrived in Australia and
my dad waiting for us at the airport. I was 8, didn't speak
a word of English and had just flown from Greece with
my brother. Unaccompanied at that.

We celebrate Father's Day in September here. When I lived
in Canada I had to buy my card in June and save it so that I
could send it in September.

Have a great Day.

May Results & June Goals for Stunning Strawberries Week 1

Monday, June 02, 2014

May was definitely a busy month & not one easy to focus on healthy eating with all the dinners & cookouts for mother's day, traveling to visit my parents & hosting a cookout for Memorial Day for our family & also having a cookout at church this past weekend for the NC Baptist Children's Ministry.

But although I didn't meet the weight goal I had set, I'm pleased that I lost .4#, any loss is better than a gain. Also, my plantar faciitis has sidelined me from any walking til I can get the new inserts for my shoes to see if that helps with the intense pain.

So to get back on track with a healthy lifestyle, here are my June goals:
*lose down from 179.2 to 176
*10 cups of water daily
*5 servings for freggies daily
*Planning & tracking my meals
*doing some sort of activity daily for a least 15 minutes
*working on getting 7 hours of rest nightly

Ready to make June a successful month!

emoticon Great goals and a good way of understanding what life sidelines came up and how well you handled them. I hope the insoles help so you can get back outside and walking once again with Kenny. Do you have a foam roller to use for stretching and muscles?
By the way I love the photo of the strawberries. Went picking myself an brought along a friend who's never been either strawberries or blueberries picking and was raised here in Jacksonville, NC. So I taught her the tricks and had a great time in a healthy way. Hope you find opportunities yourself to do so too with you children, grandchilren, parents and Kenny. It makes the best of time and memories.

Keep on striving towards our goals. emoticon

This weeks' s blog challenge on the A&I BSG Challenge is to reflect on my Mother, what are some ways we are alike/different. What are some lessons I have learned from her that has helped me on your SP journey?

This weeks challenge is a bit of a fun one. It is bittersweet thinking of this one as I try to blog about MOM. The woman I call Mom is actually my grandmother but she is heaven looking down on me I'm sure. You see Mom raised me from 9 months of age til she became too ill to care for me when I was 16. At that time she had a brain tumor & ended up having to go into a rehabilitation center of my parents choosing. I have some wonderful memories of MOM.

How are we alike:
LIke Mom, I'm gentle natured, very caring for those around me & always willing to help out when I can. I also have her fond love of cooking , especially for large crowds as is evident with the spreads I put on during the holidays --much like what I remember she would have done.

How are we different, well she loved flowers & tending to them. She was always buying new flowers, mostly roses & planting & caring for them. Well I didn't get any of her green thumb abilities, I think I could kill a silk flower. LOL!!!

What I learned from her that has helped my SP Journey is to always do your best & never give up.

Mom lives on in my heart & mind forever. emoticon
