Spooky Spiders week 4 ---Success & Goals

Monday, October 27, 2014

For the final week of the Spooky Spiders challenge, I was challenged to blog about accomplishments thus far & goals for the remainder of the year .

As far as accomplishments, at this point, I really don't feel I have accomplished anything. I know I was slowly making process at the 1st 1/2 of the year, had even lost a few #s. But then ---July came & my DR put me on insulin, I immediately gained it all back + some.

My goal for the end of the year is try to get myself back on track as I have discontinued the insulin, otherwise I would have kept right on gaining as that is one of the side effects. I'm planning to turn the spare bedroom into a workroom, already have a treadmill & planning to purchase another used piece of exercise equipment.

By Dec 31, my goal is to drop from current 188 to 180.

Donna, it sounds like we have both ended up in the same boat. I am now on insulin and we keep adjusting it to get my blood sugars down. Keep on working at it will the pounds will come back off.

It can be tough to lose weight when you are taking medications. I hope your dr can at least find a way to reduce the pain in your feet so that exercising will not be so difficult. Even though you feel like you haven't made any progress when the numbers on the scale don't seem to reflect what you've done. However, you are off of insulin now and that is progress! That is a huge victory and I'm sure you've probably had many other non-scale victories. Good for you for turning the spare room into an exercise room. We did the same thing a couple of years ago. Have fun getting more exercise in once you get the room done. I think you'll have more success once the room is done. Your goals are good and attainable. I'm sure you'll be successful! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You can do this Donna. You have your good and bad days, but as long as you never stop trying you can achieve anything.

Donna, hang in there. It will get better. I know its easy to think that you have not make any progress when the numbers on the scale does not show much movement but if you think of the many non scale victories you have had since January you will realize how much progress you have made. Have fun putting together your workout room.

YOU CAN DO THIS. GLAD YOU ARE OFF THE INSULIN AND DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE. I BELEIVE THE LESS MEDS WE TAKE THE BETTER OFF WE ARE. I KNOW SOMETIMES WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE. A WORKOUT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA.

Hang in there. It takes awhile to get away from the weight gain that insulin causes.

Celebrating Halloween

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

So for week 3 of the Spooky Spiders challenge, I am blogging about how I celebrate Halloween & what sort of treats do I give out.

Normally, our church hosts TRUNK or TREAT with games, food & of course the kids get to go Trunk or Treating at each vehicle for treats. This year the committee in charge of organizing TRUNK or TREAT decided to do something different. Instead they are taking the children's department & anyone else interested in going to a Corn Maze that is near the church. I can imagine how much fun they will have.

I will still buy treats for giving out to local children & my grandchildren. I usually buy a variety of candy --gummies, chocolates & skittles & make like treat bags with several pieces of candy since I know not all kids like the same thing. I plan to give it all away, keeping none to temp myself for indulgence.

Our church is also having a trunk or treat this year, and a price for the best decorated "trunk"

I never go to it because I don't have a "trunk"( -- I don't have a car and don't drive) but I like to hear the stories.....

Overcoming Halloween treats temptations

Thursday, October 16, 2014

The Spooky Spiders Bonus blog challenge was to blog about Halloween Candy temptation. This one is pretty simple for me as I make sure to give all the goodies & treats away to those adorable little monsters, fairies & such. My rationale is ---if it's not in sight it won't be a temptation & I've found that this works best for me. emoticon

Spooky Spiders Week 2

Thursday, October 16, 2014

This weeks blog topic is quite interesting & a little more difficult as I get into writing it, than I had expected. emoticon Guess I better put my thinking cap on. emoticon

I was challenged to blog about, "Do you prefer the shorter days and longer nights or do you long for warmer, longer days again?"

Although I definitely prefer the longer days so that I can get more things done before nightfall, I must admit I do not miss the hot, steamy, sweltering days of heat index above 100. I definitely love the cooler days & night that Fall brings, it's wonderful to walk outside without immediately breaking out a sweet. Some of the things I love about the shorter days & longer nights are:

I get more sleep because the temperatures are milder & because with it getting dark earlier I find myself going to bed at a decent hour. emoticon

I love being able to walk in the cool of the late afternoon, taking in the beauty of the radiant colors of foliage. emoticon emoticon

I also love all the wonderful varieties of soups & chilis & stew that are typical this time of year. emoticon

But I do think there's something in every season to enjoy but this time of year far outweighs the other seasons for my preference. emoticon

Totally agree - longer days and cooler temps!!

Report Inappropriate Comment
LITTLEWIND53 10/16/2014 11:40PM

I also enjoy the longer days, being able to see without putting the lights on, but like most, I do not enjoy the heat of summer.

On the other hand, I really can't handle the frigid temps of winter and tend to hibernate and go out very little.

I do like the cooler temps of fall, the beautiful colours, and like you said, the soups and stews, etc and the fresh bounty in the grocery stores.

But my fav is spring. The world is just waking up from the long cold winter, the temps start to get warm again without being too hot, the world is green and I enjoy the smell of the fresh air after a season of being inside.....

You pointed out a lot of great things about having the shorter days in the fall. I always would get depressed when the time changed to standard again and I drove home from work in the dark. Don't have that concern anymore now that I'm retired!

emoticon blog Donna! I too thought that having lived most of my life on a tropical Island, i would have chosen the warmer, longer day at the drop of the hat. I found that this was not the case because there are so many things that I like about the fall season and so I went back and forth between the two choices. So as you said there is something about every season to enjoy amd I will do so as the seasons change. emoticon for sharing.

Our trip to the NC Mountains

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Last week my DH had to have cataract surgery on Monday but we had both opted to take the entire week off from work, it would give us some time together. He was doing really great & then Wednesday morning, we made a spontaneous decision to go to the mountains for a few days. It was the perfect place for some R & R as it's where we go when we need some time away from all the stresses & hectic lifestyle of everyday life.

So I quickly found us a place away from it all, in fact we were the last house on the road that was occupied, there was a house across the road from us but it was empty & for sale. Here's a pic of our home away from home.

We were staying in the Robbinsville & Fontana Dam areas of NC. There were many beautiful places we visited, aren't the colors just breathtaking??

Here's a little country church that was just down the hill from our vacation home.

Don't we look quite relaxed & carefree? LOL!

I must say this was a much needed vacation & we had a wonderful time just getting out & visiting some of the parks & taking in some of the beauty of God's Creation.

I hope enjoyed the pictorial journey.
