Back again!

Sunday, May 22, 2011

My nephew (more like a little brother) and I are both struggling and are challenging each other to lose 15 pounds by September 1, 2011. I have been going in the wrong direction since my arthro knee surgery. Finding the exercise that is knee and back friendly is a challenge. But I think good-old-walking will win out once again.

Amazing Soup Diet

Sunday, October 18, 2009

My husband and I went on the ASD for a week. I lost 5 pounds and he lost 8 pounds. I was happy with the results, the breakfasts and the lunches, but NOT the soup. Outside of the Mexican and the red beans & rice soup it was NASTY!!! But I now have some really good recipes for the other meals that are quick and easy. AND five pounds gone!

LOL. Well, we both were committed to doing it, and had a great confessional about how we felt about the soups after we were all done. emoticon

It has been ages since I posted a food diary or added anything to my Sparkpage!

I have had some situations: Mother with cancer, torn meniscus, and the never-ending spondy. The knee problems crashed my modified exercise program, that was already slashed since I had to give up Curves. Boy, I never estimated the amount of endorphins that I had gained from exercising! I spiraled into a lack of esteem abyss.

Now, logic would say: Make your eating the emphasis and get some positive strokes from losing weight. No, no. Self pity would not be served by that! So, I gained back inches and pounds, which really helped the knee. Logic would say: emphasize upper body training. Logic went on a vacation. lol

So in two weeks, five months after the L&I claim, I am finally having a meniscus tear and pallelar polishing surgery and will be off work for 2-8 weeks, depending on how I do. I am nervous about it, only having birthed babies in my medical experience.

But I am back! Armed with the amazing soup diet for a week to jumpstart me and hubby, who is excited to participate.

Here we go!

I just had my Q lipid and A1C panels. My total cholesterol is 132, HDL is 52, LDL is 49, Trig. 164.

The A1C is still not amazing at all. BUT it fell from 9.6 to 8.7. My diabetic educator/case manager will let me know if that is fair, good, significant. We are meeting soon.

I still had troubles with my BS as I am learning that foods that were no issue are now an issue. My servings of carbs must decrease. I think around 100 g a day will be my maximum.

Curves is really helping with the drop in baddy fats. I am very excited. I have only dropped 7 pounds, but there are some heavier muscles that have joined my body. I feel stronger all the time!

That's a pretty significant drop in A1C level. It takes a while for a change to show up. Doesn't happen overnight, kind of like the weight loss thing. Great job and making a difference in it!

Helping myself

Sunday, April 20, 2008

The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm.

- Swedish proverb

I am doing that and my help IS helping me. I haven't lost much weight, but having joined Curves and committing to 3 workouts per week for 2.5 months has made me feel better, toned some muscles that were on sabbatical, and lost some fat weight.

My FAT ED has lots a few layers (if you didn't see that posting, look for it!). I know it will be a while before SLIM ED appears, but that is okay.

My BS numbers are getting in control again, and that is due to my helping hand also.

My observation is that you get more encouragement and strokes from others when you are your own helping hand. Otherwise they feel their help and encouragement may be rejected.
