Personal Record!

Monday, September 16, 2013

Feeling so good about my accomplishment today: I ran two whole miles without stopping! And I was faster than I thought I would be - just under 12 minute miles! I have been doing Galloway run/walk for a long time, and I can go surprising long distances with that - up to 5 miles. But there's something about being able to run a couple of miles continuously that makes me feel like a "real" runner.

I've never been able to run more than a mile in my life. It's amazing what sticking to a program will do!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day, filled with accomplishments large and small!

Victorious and Happy!

Friday, August 30, 2013

I am feeling great. The scale doesn't seem to be moving, but SparkCoach is helping me focus on small daily goals. I'm counting my victories and trying to keep my streaks going. It's amazing how much such a little thing motivates me.

On Wednesday evening, I found myself race-walking up and down the terminal at DFW, dragging my suitcase, because I didn't want to have to restart my 10-minutes-a-day-of exercise streak. Keeping that streak going by doing one thing today is much more manageable than trying to lose 40 pounds.

I am feeling so great! Today I managed to run 1.5 miles, continuously, without a walk break. I was so excited I then ran 2 more 1/2 mile intervals. I'm getting both tougher mentally, and more positive.

I know there will be rough times ahead, but for now, I am victorious and happy.

Sounds like your mindset has been reset! Great job on continuing that streak and not letting traveling stop you! Sometimes stopping to look at the little things is exactly what you need! :-)

Bummer Weigh In

Sunday, August 25, 2013

I weighed in today and was bummed to have gain 0.2 lbs. I have worked my tail off this week! I've been so proud of my consistent exercise, and I had expectations that it would pay off.

So I looked at my calorie report for the week. I've been eating higher fat that recommended. And while my memory tells me I went over range only 1 day, the truth is I got stars on only 2 days. So there's room for improvement! That is actually a relief - I have something to work on! It would be much worse if I was doing everything perfectly and still gaining.

How did I deal with my disappointment? Suited up, queued up "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" on the ipod, and walked and laughed for 5.38 miles! It's much better than quitting - that is not who I am any more.

Heading to Plano TX for work for 4 days tonight. The next challenge: Stay on target while eating every meal for 4 days in a restaurant! With SparkCoach and SparkPeople, I think I can do it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that your weight can naturally fluctuate up to 5 lbs. So that 0.2 gain you saw could really be a pound lost, and your body just wanted to throw you a curveball. Good to see that you're keeping a good attitude!

Your attitude rocks, and will serve you well. The scale can be a beast and it's not the only record of your success..how about eating better, feeling better and instilling healthy habits for life? Yup, you're doing all that!

I've been doing SparkCoach for about a week, and I've signed up for it. I really like the intense focus on goals. Spending a few minutes each morning thinking about my short-, mid-, and long-term goals and what I'm going to do today to get there sets me up for success.

Here are my goals:
Long Term: Weight in the 140s by May 2014.

Mid Term: Feel ok wearing a bathing suit in Hawaii on Dec 17. For this, I think weight will have to be in the 160s.

Short Term: Run a 5k without stopping by the end of September.

What am I going to do towards these goals today? I'm running my training plan, staying within my calorie range, and getting to 5 Fruits and Vegetables.

Wishing you all success!
