Education for Girls

Thursday, April 17, 2014

Education for Girls is so important. It was focused on when one girl was shot for her bravery. Now over 100 girls have been abducted from a school in Nigeria. Where is the press? Where is the outcry? news.yahoo.com/many-girls-abducted-i

It pains me that women and girls are treated like property or worse. I've never understood it.

I just returned home from an excellent Good Friday Service where our small town gathered together to hear ministers from 8 or 9 different churches do a wonderful presentation on the 8 days preceding Christ's death through the resurrection and the meaning it has for all mankind.
Then to return home and read this sad story is just heartbreaking. Educating our daughter was every bit as important as the education of our sons. And how successful she has been! The same story for our DIL. I will pray for that situation in Nigeria.

Oops! This WAS reported in the general press, just not under US News. Once I checked World News, there's the story with updates.

Newsweek and the NY Times reported it 3 days ago and since then CNN, Time, NY Post, Daily News etc.

So sad. I heard it on NPR. Unfortunately, some of our loudest voices consider any news like this as politically correct and only of interest to "feminazis"

There are some in every country and religious group who believe women are second class citizens. They like the world as it used to be with women in their "place" and have no need to publicize stories like this.

I work with AWANA in my church as a team leader and drive the bus. There are children that not only need the knowledge of God and Jesus in their lives but need self esteem encouragement. I am not a believer that everyone can be the President, there are too many sane people that wouldn't have the job, but I am a firm believer tht everyone has an important role to play in our world. God doesn't make trash is a bumper sticker. One family particularly needs their daughters to know they have value. I have asked a couple of ladies to start talking to them and later I plan to join in encouragement. Sad world that an old grey headed grandfather has to worry about appearances when talking to children. However, the world has terrible people in it and they don't always stand out until it is too late.

It is such a tragedy and horrible for those girls. I have heard news coverage of the issue, but mostly on BBC world radio. I am sad that our local media focuses more on celebrity gossip than this oppression of young women trying to get an education.

I saw where you posted this on our Buckeyes team and I went and read it. I had not heard this until you brought it to our attention. This is more than an outrage and should be brought to the attention of all leaders and yes, even ordinary people like this. Every person should be entitled to an education, no matter where they live or what sex they are. You are doing these girls a service by attracting attention to it.

Press is probably writing articles for the President. Civil rights in other countries fall under the UN for this Commander in Chief. Thanks for pointing out the oversight.

Happy New Year Noorez to Zororastrian friends

Happy New Year Noorez to Zoroastrian friends and relatives.

"In Zoroastrianism, light is the great symbol of God and Goodness, whether in the light of the sun or in the sacred fire. The Spring Equinox and the lengthening of the days is thus a symbol of the victory of Light over the cold and darkness of winter."

I've been informed it's the world's oldest religion that worships one God. That some of Judiasm and Christianity is derived from Zoroastrianism.

The motto for living is "Good Thoughts. Good Words. Good Deeds."

My grandson in law is Zoroastrian, and he introduced us to new knowledge. He lives by the tenets of Good thoughts, Good words, and Good deeds. And he is the father of our wonderful great grand son.

Very interesting! This got me researching because I'm Jewish and of course, Judaism is considered the original monotheistic religion. So then I started researching and learned a lot about your religion. Thank you so much for sharing - I never knew it existed and now I do, so thank you!

How will Windows Xp change affect our Spark?

Sunday, March 09, 2014

I am reading lots about XP not being viable any more....
I am reading that the old tower with XP doesn't do will with the needed upgrade...
I am reading that lots of virus will get on my XP.....
Does that make me spreading more vulnerability by posting to Spark or others with XP spreading vulnerability to viruses if they post???

Keeping up with these computers and other electronic things are a challenge for all of us "older folks". If you are lucky you have some younger ones in family who can help you out.

The only thing that means is that they will not be upgrading XP but you can get some good antivirus programs to protect your computer. Also Malware is also a good one to have to protect it too. Just make sure that you don't open e-mails that y0u don't know and don't be fooled about some people(Emails that tell you that your such and such is canceled if you don't contact then from the email) telling you that they will cancel or anything like that. Also be careful about phone calls that tell you that you have junk files on your computer and that you need to go to a certain website because if you do they will take over your computer and then make you pay just to use your own computer. Just tell them no and that you are not going to that site.

Microsoft isn't doing any security updates, etc. for XP anymore. I also signup for emails from makeuseof.com
Lots of useful info on there and free guides. Here is the latest article http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/upgrad
e-windows-xp-modern-os-7-simple
-steps/

I also use Avast free version for virus protection (auto updates) & Malawarebytes free & super antispyware free to catch trojans and trackers which I update and run periodically.

I also use CCleaner to clean garbage off.

Malawarebytes has a another program you download to your computer in a zipped files, save to a folder YOU name (mine is called my savior) , unzip and you see files with different endings. It's all the same file size and same content. When you have a virus, go to this folder click on one of those files, will open in DOS and run to get rid of nasty bug, will update main Malawarebytes and then it will run that too. The different file endings FOOL the virus because if it knew it was a virus killer wouldn't let it run. I had a virus on my XP laptop that kept adapting to whatever I threw at it. Then I went to my other laptop to find a solution to the virus and that's how I found this other virus killer on Malawrebytes.

Hope this helps emoticon

I agree with RD03875. Keep your virus protection software up to date and I think you will be fine.

As long as you have a good virus protection software, you computer won't get viruses.

My March Madness

Sunday, March 02, 2014

emoticon My March Madness....
1. Try to go a little hungry....I was told that by my Dr. in 1960 and it is a good for me idea. Not starve.....but be willing to go a little hungry.
2. Get those veggies/fruits and protein in daily.
3. Be reflective and read the Lenten study book.
4. Use the sleep apnea machine and the meds for heart daily.
5, Accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.
6. Move it, move it, move it!

My February Heart Progress

Friday, February 21, 2014

emoticon Got my blood work this morning to check on the statin med. I have Been regular with it. I forget my chlorestoral med sometimes.. Must get better.
emoticon Hugging myself.
Basically I want to eat right, exercise, do meds.... and prevent a stroke .

I Modified the paleo meal plan cause of my diverticulitis. Meats, protein, raw veggies are great, but i need the cooked veggies et al. too. I am satisfied with my adjustments.

Dr Oz has a Paleo playbook I started with www.doctoroz.com/videos/paleo-diet-p
laybook
Adapted for my personal needs and health. I especially like building a paleo plate for every meal. And eliminating inflammatory foods. Having a protein at each meal is a key for me.

I like some of the Paleoista recipes from the Dr Oz Website The paleoista cinnamon baked apples are a favorite.

I am committed to this for February and hope to do so in March too. One day and then one month at a time. Later...
Wishing you a healthy heart... emoticon
