Travel, heat/humidity, a week of illness and a week of travel coming up. Looking at the possibility of Bill moving to Iowa....for a YEAR.....for a "can't refuse" opportunity. An investment in our retirement.
Feeling distracted, lost my focus, needing structure. I know, I really am the one who can control this, but I allow myself to get sucked into the "drama of the moment." An employee resignation, a budget oops, a lack-luster presentation, underperforming employees (who had been allowed to underperform for 20 years before my arrival.)
Ok. The negative stuff is out. Put away.
The one thing I can control is where I am....in THIS moment. Nobody and nothing is going to insert their drama into the next minute, nor the next, nor the next.
Rather than tackle the list of 50 things that NEED to be done, my list is going to consist of one. Upper body workout and 2 miles followed by floor core work. And what I know to be true, is that a surge of positivity (always the result of a good workout) will ensure that I develop a menu for the coming week, stocking up on healthy groceries, while I tackle laundry.
If that's ALL I accomplish today (and I will), it will be a good day, and kick the work week off on a high note.
Back later with more deep thoughts.... :-)

The treadmill is still in the garage, and today's 2 mile run was a hot, humid WET one! My long run is Sunday - shooting for 4 miles, but I'll start earlier! Can't wait until I hit that 'zone' where at 6 miles, the endorphins kick in and I feel like I can run forever (or 9 miles, whichever comes first!) In more ways than one, the heat is on, to train for the Brooklyn 5K...with at least a couple of 10K's in the fall. No more 1/2 Marathons for my artificial knees.
My long weekend will be one of regrouping and reprogramming. The Peanut Chicken Thai skewers (the sauce uses PB2 instead of peanut butter) came out fab last night, enough for today's lunch. Water, water and more water.
M1 - banana
M2 - (post run) bagel w/ Salmon/Lox/Capers
M3 - 2 pieces leftover thai chicken
M4 - Orange Creamsicle Smoothie
M5 - turkey burger, salad
M6 - ??

Morning workouts are THE HARDEST thing to do, but it was THE BEST thing I could have done for myself today. I pledge, to do it again tomorrow, and will get 3 morning treadmill sessions in next week.
Through a jam packed day - I was focused and stuck with my food plan, had more positive energy, and focused on coming home to make a healthy supper and garden.
Now....going to grill some zucchini on the foreman. No, it didn't come from my garden. THAT'S going to take a miracle.

This'll be quick!
Yesterday started with a dreaded employee 'counseling' session, which turned out great. A mom who is overstressed, recently moved, trouble balancing home and work. Starting to show in her attendance and performance. Reached an agreement....she'll telework 2X/week for now, and get this: as a way to balance things emotionally, I encouraged her to a challenge.....cardio 3X a week for the next 2 weeks. I'm allowing her to do this on work time, which is no biggie for me, but is HUGE for her....as show of support..... as long as she emails me with her progress....she is so excited, and she sent her first email this morning.
My workout yesterday, GARDEN. Long overdue...has been so wet. Stretching, bending, lifting. I don't know if there's hope for my poor veggies, but the workout was different and good.
This am - first morning run in forever. 2 miles, 30 minutes. The treadmill is in the no-air, no-fan garage, so I was soaking wet at the 10 minute mark. Feeling a burn in calves and the old Achilles injury. Speed not important, endurance is.
Must run....big day. Looking forward to a 2 1/2 day weekend!

I did it. Bought a used treadmill last night (hence, no workout), brought it home in the back of the pickup...an unexpected rainstorm hit....opened it up, let it dry for a day....and rushed home to rebuild and test it. IT WORKS! We didn't give the electronics much hope, and of course I know, it could still fail.
1.75 miles, about 32 minutes. My 5 K's were around 30 minutes 2 years ago, when I was 40 pounds lighter.
Food today - WW bar for breakfast, banana, quinoa/apple/cranberry/maple sausage salad (very yum), and 5 chicken meatballs tonight. Water? What water? ugh. Can do better.
But....that's what tomorrow is for....doing better!
