The Simple Diet - 2 years and counting

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Today marks my second anniversary with the Simple Diet. I started my weight loss journey on February 13, 2012. As with any journey, it has had ups and downs.

The Ups! - I've lost 103 pounds and my life has changed in ways that I still canít fully process. I can shop where ever I want. No more wide shoes; Iím wearing boots and heels! Even yesterday, I was standing in a department store check out line when I noticed that the clerk was a former student. I recognized her immediately; she didn't recognize me until I handed her my (old picture) driverís license. Then it was ďOMG Ms Kain, you look great!Ē Even today, itís still hard to hear such compliments.

The Downs! Ė I had my gallbladder removed at the end of September 2013. Because of the surgery, I stopped exercising, then the diet went to hell and some of the weight came back. I went back to the basics with the Simple Diet (as Dr Jim recommends in the book) and the weight was soon gone!

How has my life changed?
Iím definitely making better food choices. On most days I drink two shakes, eat two entrees and eat 5+ fruits/vegetables per day. I also eat a ďregularĒ meal. I started participating in Meatless Mondays and find that I donít have to have meat every day. Donít get me wrong Ė I eat out occasionally; but I definitely try to limit it to once per week. Even then, I check their menu in advanced or I order a meal without the sauces, butter or other fatty condiments. Iím sure those servers hate to see me coming!

I never imagined saying publicly - I LOVE EXERCISING. I have about 25+ exercise DVDs at home. I have weights, resistance bands, exercise balls and even a jump rope which come in very handy (especially today because of the snow). At the gym, I can be found in Water Aerobics, Body Combat, RIPPED and Zumba classes. In September I ran my second 5K; I even decreased my time. I recently completed the Zumba Instructorís course. Iím now licensed to teach Zumba. I continue to use SparkPeople and my Fitbit to track my food and exercise.

I turned 50 in October and threw myself a party. The dress I wore was definitely smaller than the one I wore when I was 40. I have a few more pounds to lose but Iím not stressing. Iím enjoying every moment of my new life!

Thanks so much for the testimony. I turned 50 also in 2013 and I have about 40 pounds to lose. I've started the plan and I have ordered the book. I hope I can get the results that you acheived!

I myself seem to be " stuck " and I don't know why.... I am still trying but just can't seem to get past this point and I am only halfway there !!
so happy for you and I hope to be able to say what you have at some point !!

Special Hugs

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Who doesn't love a compliment? This afternoon I was sitting in the office waiting to speak with our principal. One of the student aides (who I haven't taught), was sitting at the desk and we started talking; I asked about his plans after graduation.

He then asks, Ms K - "Can I tell you something?"
(Sure I say not sure where this conversation is going...)
He then says, "I don't want to you to take this the wrong way.
(Oh boy where are you going with this...)
"I wanted you to know that you look a lot better than you did when I was a freshman. "
(Wow! Either you've insulted me or you've just paid me the biggest compliment ever!) I gave him an extra special hug! This is the kind of incentive I need to keep this weight off!

Sweet young man. It took some courage on his part to say that and he must have known that it would have been so good for you to hear it.

Sleeping it Off

Monday, November 11, 2013

Not feeling great today. In addition to the congestion, my stomach has been upset. So no exercise today. I already disgraced myself while teaching today. Yuk!

I'm off to bed. Goodnight Spark friends.

Fighting Back

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Not a lot to report today. I played at the 8am service and went to Sunday School.

I feel like I'm fighting a cold/allergies and have been indoors most of the afternoon. Of course I took a nap and now I'm trying to grade papers. Honestly, I'm caught up reading a book and I haven't gotten to the papers yet.

I plan to try Body Combat tomorrow night. Tomorrow is Meatless Monday, I've packed my lunch to include a vegetable lasagna.
