October 30, 2014 WAY OF LIFE
Being devoted to God doesn’t work when we are selfish. Being devoted to God doesn’t work when we want to do things our way. To be devoted to God means to be obedient to Him. We must be willing to turn from our ways and turn to His ways. We must. When we are devoted to God, we aren’t thinking about us, we are thinking about Him. We turn from the worldly pleasures and live a devoted life to God. Our way of live should be His way…completely.
Titus 2:12 “And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We are instructed to live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness and devotion to You. Help us today. We come to You broken and ready to be made right. Live through us so we are living as You have called us to live. We want our way of life to be the way You have planned for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our way of life should be pleasing to God.
In order for us to know how to live for God, we need to know God.
In order for us to know God, we have to read His word.
In order for us to understand God’s word, we need to pray and have a relationship with Him.
We are to imitate those who imitate Christ. What Paul wrote to the Corinthians is still true today.
1 Corinthians 4:16 “So I urge you to imitate me.” (NLT)
Focus: If what we are doing today would not be pleasing to Christ, we need to stop doing it.

October 29, 2014 DEVOTED TO SEEKING WISDOM
When we are devoted to seeking wisdom, we search for God’s word daily. When we are devoted to seeking wisdom, we put into practice what He calls us to do. We devote ourselves to His word, to fellowship, to sharing and to prayer. It starts in the home and in the church. We need to be devoted enough to seeking His wisdom that we treat others as He has called us to treat them.
Acts 2:42 “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us to start at home living the life You have called us to live. Help us to read Your word, help those in our home and pray for them. Help us also in the church with fellow believers to encourage them to hear, read and study Your word. We want to learn, fellowship, share and pray, every day, as You have called us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we will want to listen to those who are devoted to studying His word.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we will want to fellowship with other believers.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we will want to share with others.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we will want to pray to Him every day.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we want to put into action what He has called us to do.
When we are devoted to seeking God’s wisdom, we will remain faithful to God and want to remain in fellowship with Him.
1 John 2:24 “So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.” (NLT)
Focus: Our true devotion to seeking the wisdom of God is shown in our actions in our homes, churches and communities.

October 28, 2014 READY TO SUFFER
When we are devoted to God, we need to be ready to suffer. The world will reject us because we are not of the world, we are of God. We have His Holy Spirit living in us. We should remain devoted to Him when we are uncomfortable, uncertain and uncaring. When we do, He will give us comfort. He will assure us. And He will show us how to care. When we are ready to suffer for being devoted to God, He will use us and give us peace in the midst of it all.
2 Timothy 1:8b “With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, thank You for Your promises to us. Thank You for being with us in the midst of it all. We are ready to suffer for You. We are ready to put our lives on the line so we can share Your word. We are ready to do the uncomfortable things. Give us peace about stepping out in the name of Jesus and show us how to care enough to share Your word with the world. Lead us to someone today and speak through us to show them Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
There will be times when we are uncertain about what to do and say. And God will help.
When we are uncomfortable about speaking out for God, we need to rely on Him to show us what to say.
When we want to give up and stop caring about someone who is not saved, God can help us to continue to be a godly example to them.
When we are ready to suffer for being devoted to God, He will use us and give us peace in the midst of it all.
When we are devoted to God, He will give us what we need to carry on.
John 4:34 “Then Jesus explained: ‘My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.” (NLT)
Focus: The suffering we encounter by being devoted to God is going to be rewarded when we all get to Heaven.

October 27, 2014 MEDITATE
We have a lot of people in the world who are devoted to something. It may be sports. It may be drugs. It may be something else. We can tell we are devoted to it because we return to it over and over again. What about God? How often do we return to Him? How often do we look at His word, read it and meditate on it? When we are devoted to God’s word, we will want to meditate on it. We will want to read it over and over again and allow it to sink into our souls and fill our lives.
Colossians 3:16a “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we pray for our lives. We pray that Your message will fill us and we will take time to meditate on it. We know we control our time. We know we make our own decisions. We know we can make the decision to be devoted to You in all things if we choose to do so. Help us to be focused on You today, read Your word and meditate it. Help us to feel Your presence as You fill our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Meditating on God’s word will fill our lives with all that He is.
Thank God for all He does and for He word that instructs and directs us.
God can fill our lives with the message about Christ when we go to His word and meditate on it.
When we meditate on God’s word, we will know right from wrong and be more obedient to God.
Meditating on God’s word will allow us to prosper and succeed in all we do so we can lead others to know Him as well.
Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (NLT)
Focus: Meditating on God’s word will bring us closer to Him and further from the things of the world.

October 26, 2014 DEVOTED TO HOPE
Hope in God can help us to carry on when we don’t feel like it. The hope we can have in God will give us the strength we need to do what we couldn’t do on our own. When we have hope in God, we can have peace in the midst of the storms. When we are devoted to hope and put our trust in God, we can get through anything. God wants us to put our trust and hope in Him so He can do His work through us.
Hebrews 6:19 “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, thank You for the hope we can have in You. Thank You for leading us through life when we lean on You. We know we can have hope in You and not worry about anything. We know we can have hope in You and have peace. We know we can have hope in You and trust You. Help us to remind others of the hope they can have in You as well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we are devoted to hope in God, we can have peace that surpasses all understanding.
Having hope in God alone is all we need.
With hope in God, we can get through anything.
Having hope in God gives us security for our souls.
When we put our hope in God, He will lead us by His truth and He will teach us.
Psalm 25:5 “Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” (NLT)
Focus: All day long, put your hope in God.
