September 18, 2014 HUMBLE SPIRIT

Most people want a drama-free life where there are not too many issues. Due to our own action and the actions of others, a drama- or issue-free life probably isn’t going to happen in this world. However, we can know it is possible to strive for it. When we truly submit our lives to God and humble ourselves before Him, the Holy Spirit will guide our lives and we won’t want to do what is wrong. We will want to do right. We will want to follow Jesus. We will want to know God’s will and read His word. God’s Spirit can lead us to peace and give us guidance to a firm footing in the Lord.

Galatians 5:16 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we submit ourselves humbly to You. We need You. We want a life that is full of peace even amidst the turmoil. We want a life that is Spirit-filled so You can guide us and keep us on firm footing. We submit ourselves humbly to You asking You to guide and direct us. We ask You to teach us to know and do You will. And may Your gracious Spirit lead us forward on firm footing and give us peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Despite what is going on in our lives today, it is possible to find peace when we submit ourselves humbly to God.

When we practice focusing on God and reading His word, we will have the humble Spirit of God in our lives.

What greater feeling is there than to feel the presence of God’s Holy Spirit with in us?

Peace is possible when we focus on God and allow His Holy Spirit to work through us.

God can teach us to do His will and lead us to firm footing, but we have to have a desire to learn and take that first step.

Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.” (NLT)

Focus: Focus on God and allow the Holy Spirit to teach you to walk, talk and follow Jesus so you can find peace.

September 17, 2014 HUMBLENESS HEALS

We are so blessed to have God who heals. We can humble ourselves before Him and give Him our pain and He will heal us. If we need spiritual healing, He will forgive us when we turn from our sins and repent. If we need physical healing, He will give us comfort and peace. If we need mental healing, He will guide us with His word so our minds will be cleared from all the clutter of the world. If we need financial healing, He will help us when we begin to give Him the first portions of what we receive and trust Him. God is our True Healer and when we cry out humbly to Him, He will heal our land.

Psalm 30:2 “O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, thank You for loving us enough to heal us when we are hurting. We know we can come to You and humble ourselves before You and You will give us what we need to be restored. Heal us today from all pain in our lives and show us how to share and give You the glory for Your healing and loving hand. All of Your words and works are wonderful and we should share what You do for us with others so they can know how truly great You really are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we are hurting, God is enough.

Humbleness heals us when we put our hope, our faith and our trust in God.

Turning from our wrongdoing and turning toward God will allow Him to heal us when we cry out to Him.

All of God’s words and works are wonderful. He is able to heal and to help when we humble ourselves before Him.

Healing is about be restored and made clean or new again. We can humble ourselves to God and He will heal us and our land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” (NLT)

Focus: Know whatever hurts you have, God is able to heal them when you turn from wrong and turn humbly to Him.

September 16, 2014 GOD USES THE HUMBLE

This may sound a bit like an oxymoron but we have to be careful not to be proud that we are humble. We have to be careful not to think we are worthy of what other believers have been given from God. We shouldn’t get too proud we are believers and we forget why we are called. When we think we are humble and should receive the same spiritual gifts others have, then we aren’t humble at all. We are envious and seeking to do good for the wrong reasons. Let’s be sure we are truly humble and let God use us as He sees fit and not be jealous of the spiritual gifts of others. We need to remember when we see God’s work in others, those people are truly humble.

Numbers 12:2-3 “They said, ‘Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?’ But the LORD heard them. (Now Moses was very humble—more humble than any other person on earth.)” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to truly humble ourselves before You. Help us not to believe we are better than anyone else for any reason. Help us to know You have given us each talents and skills to use that will glorify You and not be envious of those who are doing Your work in other ways. Help us instead to lift up and encourage those godly people who are being obedient to You. Lead us to do right and teach us Your way so we may be humble and obedient to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God uses the humble to do His work. If we aren’t doing God’s will, we need to submit completely to Him.

We can’t go around wishing we had the talents of others. That only keeps us from using the talents God gave us.

When we focus too much on others and what they are doing for God, we can’t do what God has called us to do.

Rather than wanting to be like other godly people, we need to humble ourselves before God and desire to be like Jesus.

When we go to God and lean on Him knowing He is our refuge and our strength, He will help us.

Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” (NLT)

We need to remember when we see God’s work in others, those people are truly humble.

Psalm 25:9 “He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.” (NLT)

Focus: Read God’s word. Humble yourself before Him. Focus on His using your skills to glorify His name.

September 15, 2014 TROUBLES HUMBLE US

It’s true. When we go through trials in life, we realize we need God. And when those troubles come, we usually humble ourselves before Him and ask Him for help. We sometimes wonder why we have to go through hard times but without them we wouldn’t know what God is capable of doing. Without struggles, we wouldn’t learn. Without issues, we wouldn’t grow. Without anguish and grief, we may forget to lean on, trust in and humbly walk with God.

Isaiah 38:15b “Now I will walk humbly throughout my years because of this anguish I have felt.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to remember You in both the good times and bad. You are our Creator. You are our Savior. You are our Lord. We aren’t complete without You in our hearts and lives. When troubles come, we know we need You. However, help us remember every day we need You in the good times as well. Thank You for the struggles, the lessons and the love You have for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are humbled by our troubles because we know only God can truly help us.

Troubles humble us to totally lean on God.

One of the best things we can do in hard times, is humble ourselves before God.

God is all we need. When we decide to humble ourselves before Him in hard times, He will give us comfort.

Tough times reveals our character and obedience to God.

Deuteronomy 8:2 “Remember how the LORD your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.” (NLT)

Focus: Know that you can depend on God in the good times just as you can in the hard times.

September 14, 2014 HUMBLY OBEY

Making changes in our lives is something we tend to put off. We get into a routine and we get comfortable. Sometimes we get a little proud of what we are doing and don’t want to change. However, God calls us to humbly obey Him. To humbly obey means to know His will, understand we need to do it and then do it. To humbly obey means we turn away from what we want to do or what the world is doing and we obey God honoring who He is and how powerful He is.

James 4:17 “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know Your commands are for us. Sometimes we take them and You for granted. Sometimes we go off on our own and ignore Your laws. Sometimes we make excuses and other times we think we know better than You. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to remember to humbly obey You in all things so we can be better witnesses for You. Help us to eagerly want to learn Your teachings, obey You and share Your word with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we know God’s word and don’t obey, we are doing wrong. We are living in sin.

When we know God’s word and humbly obey Him, we are setting the right example for others.

To be a follower of Christ we are to turn from sin and humbly obey God.

To humbly obey means we turn away from what we want to do or what the world is doing and we obey God.

We should obey God and obey those who our spiritual leaders.

Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.” (NLT)

Focus: Turn away from the things of the world and humbly obey God.
