October 25, 2014 LEVELS OF DEVOTION

Some believe there are levels of devotion to God. And they are right, in some sense. There are believers who know God exist and believe in Him. There are those who are devoted to going to church but they donít read His word outside of church. There are those who read His word and go to church but donít take action from His word. Then there are those who read, fellowship and obey Him. We shouldnít pick what level of devotion is most comfortable to us. We should be the devoted believer who takes action despite if itís feels good or not. We should strongly desire to be His disciples.

Matthew 7:24 ďAnyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.Ē (NLT)

Dear Lord, we pray You will show us how to grow stronger in Your word. We donít want to be like the person who builds their house on the sand that will wash away at the first rain. We want to build a solid foundation by reading Your word, praying and taking action in Your name. Help us to strongly desire to be Your disciples and devote our lives to You, starting right now. Thank You, Lord, for all You do. In Jesusí name. Amen.

Itís time we examined our spiritual lives and asked God to reveal to us anything we should do to be more devoted to Him.

Doing what is comfortable to us will not help us grow. Ask God today how you can step out of your comfort zone and follow Him.

God wants us to grow in His word and not the things of the world. And that will give us a solid foundation.

If we are at a level of devotion that is not routine and sincere, we need to get into Godís word more.

When we hear Godís word and donít obey, we arenít going to be strong when trouble comes.

Luke 6:49 ďBut anyone who hears and doesnít obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.Ē (NLT)

Focus: We are not alone when we choose to follow God. He will help us along the way every day.

October 24, 2014 DEVOTED WHEN TEMPTED

What we do when we are tempted depends on how devoted we are to God. If we are completely devoted to God, we would not even go where we could possibly be tempted. If we are completely devoted to God, we would not even stay where we are tempted. If we are completely devoted to God, we would leave and take others with us. When we are devoted to God and we are tempted, we will know the right action to take as we trust in Him and do His will.

Revelation 20:4b ďAnd I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.Ē (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to be completely devoted to You. We want to turn from what is wrong and only do what is right. We want to leave the places that are unholy and to take others with us. We want to be Your people who do only what is right and good. We want to be holy, live for You and share Your word. Help us, during temptation, to turn away from it and turn to You. In Jesusí name. Amen.

When we are devoted to God, we will take joy in doing His will and turning away from sin.

When we are tempted, we have the choice to focus on God, quote His word and resist temptation in Jesusí name.

It will require us to take a stand for God when everyone around us is being tempted.

God wants us to know He is near when temptation comes and He can help us resist it in Jesusí name.

When we have Godís word in our hearts, we will be devoted to Him even when we are tempted.

Psalm 40:8 ďI take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.Ē (NLT)

Focus: Temptation can be resisted when we are devoted to God and allow Him to help us.

October 23, 2014 WE WILL WANT TO MATURE

When we are devoted to God, we will want to learn more. We will want to grow in Christ. We will want to learn from Him and stand firm in Him. We, as believers, can rejoice knowing God can strengthen us to learn more about Him and do His will. When we are devoted to God, we will want to move from the babies in Christ we are as new believers to the mature Christians He has called us to be.

Hebrews 5:12 ďYou have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about Godís word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.Ē (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to grow. Show us what to turn away from so we can better focus and be devoted to You. We want to grow and mature as disciples. We want to move away from the things of the world and move forward to further understanding. Help us today, Lord. Show us one step we can take that will move us toward knowing You better and living for You. In Jesusí name. Amen.

We canít continue living as babies in Godís word. We need to use His word to challenge us to learn and do more.

Just as we wouldnít want our babies to stop learning and growing, God doesnít want us to stop learning and growing.

We are created to learn, to grow and to share. If we donít mature as believers, we arenít helping ourselves or others.

Staying a baby in Godís word is selfish and a disobedient act toward Him.

When we are devoted to God, we will want to mature.

Hebrews 6:3 ďAnd so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.Ē (NLT)

Focus: Read, study and learn more about God today. Then apply it to your life and share it with others. Want to mature (grow up!)

October 22, 2014 BE BLESSED

There is a saying about what we donít know and how it wonít hurt us. Well what about what we do know? What things in our lives do we know about yet we still donít do them? If we know something and we donít do it, there could be disaster. Not doing what we know God wants us to do will lead to misery. However, being devoted to God and doing the things He has called us to do will make blessings in our lives that we can share with others.

John 13:17 ďNow that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.Ē (NLT)

Dear Lord, we are so grateful for Your word. We are grateful for Your direction and Your teachings. Help us to be devoted to You in our actions today. Help us to take what we have learned and take action for You. Help us to take what we have learned and share it with others. We thank You for the blessings You give us when we are obedient to You. Show us ways to share our blessings with others today. In Jesusí name. Amen.

There are blessings in store for those who are obedient to God.

The blessings we receive because we obey God should be shared with others.

Knowing what to do and not doing it is just wrong.

Satan wants us to ignore, procrastinate and forget about what we are supposed to be doing for God. Letís not let Satan win.

When we donít do what we know we are supposed to do, we are sinning.

James 4:17 ďRemember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.Ē (NLT)

Focus: Going the extra mile today to obey God will pay off with multiple blessings that can be shared with others.

October 21, 2014 LISTEN

When we are devoted to God, we will want to listen to Him. We will want to obey Him. We will want to be wise as He calls us to be. When we are devoted to God, we will be wise and spend Him with Him daily. We will pray daily. We will read His word daily. When we are devoted to God, we wonít have to be told to do these things. We will have a strong desire to listen, to learn and to follow.

Matthew 7:24 ďAnyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.Ē (NLT)

Dear Lord, we come to You today to show You our devotion to You. We need You. We need Your word. We need Your teaching. We need Your direction. We know if we follow You, we will be wise as the person who builds a house on solid rock. Give us direction today and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to give us the strength and desire to obey You. In Jesusí name. Amen.

When we really listen to God, we will want to obey.

God calls us to hear His word and to also put it into action.

When we are devoted to God, we wonít have to be reminded to listen and obey Him.

Just as those who listen and obey are wise, those who listen and donít obey are fools.

How many of us hear Godís word with our ears but we donít really listen? Or we know what is right but we donít do it?

Isaiah 42:20 ďYou see and recognize what is right but refuse to act on it. You hear with your ears, but you donít really listen.Ē (NLT)

Focus: Listen to Godís word today, pray about it and ask God how you can put it into action so you can best learn from it.
